Looking at those fees how does one become a football agent? I've got a few languages, based on the continong, play footie, have an eye for a player (Stevie Mills, aahhh) and I'm honest... B*****r, done it again, haven't I?

Nah, no need. Any decent journalist would have this page earmarked or get their research assistant to keep them updated: "Sharon, get the latest from our Southampton research team, would you. Ta" As for the FA, I've always assumed they were part of the conspiracy. They can't be that incompetent, surely? Ah...., well, OK, a bit of doubt there.

Exactly what I was just about to write.

I like it! It's something most Saints fans will understand, baffle the opposition and not embarassing at all: humorous in fact.

I finish teaching on June 10 and start again on about 10 September by which time the kids will have forgotten any of the English they've learnt. So pootle over to the UK for a holiday, sitting in country pub gardens having a few pints, bit of running to keep the weight down, ... maybe a bit of cycling along the Embankment with my Saints cap.... see if anybody wants crew (winching, lining the rail and catching mackerel). I'll find something to do...

No debts thanks.:-) On the Rioja front do you prefer joven or older crianza. Marques de Riscal used to be nice. Mind you, I've developed my tastes in Italian wine and there's even 3 growers and 1 co-operative I buy direct from.

I was on a fishing holiday with a friend in Ireland. We met this unemployed guy who sold us some worms and we had a chat and ended up doing a bit of night fishing for eels on the banks of the Shannon - he used to sell them for a bit of additional cash. Anyway, said friend goes back to the tent pitched nearby and we continued fishing, which was quite hilarious every time we got another eel and he tried to get them to stay in the bucket... Anyway, all of a sudden in the dark he has a fit and starts writhing and gibbering, and I'm afraid he'll grab me and we'd fall into the river, which there was deep and flowing swiftly. Then, as suddenly as it started he stopped, came round and said 'Sorry bout dat' and all was calm again. If he hadn't have told us in the pub earlier about his fits I'd have been even more terrified than I was!

Oh come on! Pulis has looked crap in his loan spells in L2 and I don't think Eastbourne were too impressed with Forecast.
-
Of course it is. If (when..) we get to the Premiership it will be interesting to see if they adapt the business model and how they think we'll get to that higher level. But don't you feel more confident in our backing and management than the twonks at West Ham or Newcastle, let alone the leveraged buyout clubs that are having to pay their new owners for the privilege of being bought?
-
Agreed. Well, not warm Hamster, but cool and not chilled. I don't drink lager or cider or even fizzy Tetleys. They could even do plastic jugs to speed the process as many people buy with friends. As it is at the moment I don't bother and wait until I get back to where we have all decided to meet: The Junction, SWestern, Guidedog or wherever. There would still be the danger of running out, as they wouldn't be able to keep the stuff, but that might introduce a buying frenzy!

Currently Cotterill is scouting in Europe. I hope players and clubs know enough to ask for the money up front..

Personally I think it's a when, assuming promotion to the Premiership. The exact how and when is another matter, but I don't think an out of city ground is the answer. By the waterside is a prime site, and has tremendous potential. It should be remembered that although people come from afar a large proportion of the fans come from within the city and have more sense (and desire for a beer) than coming by car. The transport problems are over-rated, in my opinion, and if we do expand so will the alternatives, particularly with ambition - which is patently there - and a bit of imagination. A dedicated ferry pier, a light rail system, park and rides, better bus services with clear, sign-posted bus stops! Decent beer with bars open after the match will spread out the surge, and redevelopment would mean other reasons to go to the area with the club as the focus. One thing I noted in the Cortese interview is that they have a clear idea of what they are trying to achieve. Their plans for Staplewood came in at 3 times the initial thoughts because they didn't want to compromise and were building for the future. I'm pretty optimistic really.

Well, I was going to say 'tight cow' but thought that might get the wrong reaction. How about 'financially challenged'? Ta VFTT, that's more or less the idea. I never book a ferry I can't easily make. Driving like an idiot to make a ferry wouldn't be fun. Funnily enough going UK to Italy I've done it in a day quite often, but there are no deadlines to meet and I can stop for a 15minute nap if I need to.

Thanks Lazlo78. What the professionals need to understand is that we have our own fans network of ears to the ground throughout the world, so even local press stuff is going to get out!

as groundworkers, steelfixers, JCB drivers, brickies, shutterers, plumbers etc. when ground-breaking starts at the old Fratton Park ground. Due to council requirements a 5-a-side pitch will be included... That's probably what'll happen.

Ta, I can just about do that the route I come up (cheapskate off the French autoroutes). That leaves me poised for the channel ports the following morning.

The food and beer was good in Brussels when I last visited. Been 3 times; once when my Dad was temporary BA manager at the airport. The upgrade and G&T at 10 in the morning was great! Before that I went for a certain match... Chanson d'Amour and Peter Osgood... ah. Most recent by train, which is indeed fast and convenient. Antwerp's a nice little city: superb chocolate, beer and fashion, strangely enough, so that might interest your OH. I must visit Ypres though; every year on the way back from Italy I drive through northern France and Belgium, but I'm normally in a hurry to get places. What time is Last Post played SourMash?

http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/493975669?-11209 Kids offered £1700 a week?! I remember reading the salary list for West Ham this last year and the apprentices made nothing like that. As one of the posters so astutely mentioned, they attracted all the wrong ones; those attracted by money and not the professional set-up offered by other clubs.

Congratulations! I hope the economy picks up (or at least demand for EFL/ESOL teachers) before I move back to the UK in a couple of years, or I won't be getting a season ticket!

Is Hamster a yoof then?

I don't think Pulis is even mentioned on the OS list of players so hopefully Lowe's contract for him has finally expired. A very good example of what is wrong with nepotism. With Forecast it's equally difficult to know what he was thinking about: the story being that he asked the goalkeeping scout to go and do some research on him. "He's crap" was the immediate reply. "How do you know?", says Lowe. "It's my job" said the scout. And we still signed him.... Jaidi: hmm - with pace alongside maybe, and as back-up, purely from the ageing legs point of view. Hopefully money for Puncheon. Holmes no doubting the hard work but we can do better and cheaper (in terms of games played!). Hmm, Gobern, still not sure. He's only 20 and I think he might be a late developer, even physically, in growing into his gawky frame. Keep and loan out for some regular games and see after a few more months. Incidentally, whatever has happened to Mills up at Doncaster. I think he's been a regular there so why don't the clubs involved sell/buy?
-
Unfortunately it won't be, which is a shame because I'll be in the country, but the FL make sure they're aren't any derbys for the first match of the season.
