Until today I hadn't seen any of Manchester United's games, but took the opportunity this evening to watch the highlights. My goodness, what an awful sloppy lackadaisical team. No cohesion, no effort, no defence.

I sort of predicted the right score! OK, maybe not, but at least I didn't join in with the 3-0 defeat depressives. 🙂

We probably need a separate thread on freezing your bits off at football matches. I've been cold but nothing memorable in terms of remembering a specific game. Mind you, I've probably been unrecognisable with all the hats, scarves, ski gear padding, winter boots and possibly those little exothermic hand warmers. Clapping would have sounded a bit muffled too.. Not sure what I feel about today, though the ideal scenario would be a late winning free kick by JWP. I didn't think those things happened to Saints, but then Le Tissier popped up with that fantasy script in the last game at The Dell, so there's always a little hope.

Wasn't Tommy Jenkins playing as well? You see Mr_Red, you've set us all off! But CanadaSaint's idea is a good one..

Remember he's a busy man and has all the LGBTQ related threads he's not interested in to attend to.. Often he started them; he does like to make work for himself.

Not necessarily here but it's odd. Many years ago, before handy smartphones, in a group I was in someone asked about how many litres in a gallon and there was a bit of umming and erring. So I piped up with the rough answer (1 decimal place!) and then got grief for being so positive about it. I really did'nt understand that attitude for such a simple fact.

My dad has a lot to answer for as well. Luckily I don't remember my first game but I think Sydenham was involved! The Itchen sometimes has pairs of seats vacant round my way and very good views, plus the kids sometimes go down the front with their 'Can I have your shirt please?' bits of cardboard. More expensive but for a special occasion...

I was watching some friends here over Portsmouth way in a friendly which enabled some underage players to take part; there were 2 (or was it 3?) sisters and very good and reminded me one of the reasons I retired.. Not just my lack of skill but mainly being as slow as Vestergaard.. The mum was commenting how disappointed they were that Southampton had closed the U16s.

You may have missed my same question on this above, but in what way have they been disappointed, did they flesh out their statement: pace, physicality, positioning..? The number of scouting failures by other clubs makes me not so disappointed about Saints'!

Although I don't like the fellow I feel he and Martinez have a point and the owners will just change manager again to avoid scrutiny on themselves. It's still all chuckleworthy though as the Glaziers and their right wing co-owner are far worse, and even bigger leeches.

Well, as long as he works up a sweat on the pitch we won't mind..

Stayed with a friend in Torino the night before to take advantage of cheaper flights, then train over and a hotel in Milan and a free meal in a Swedish restaurant from another friend. After the game ended up at the Birrificio Lambrate (I think), a brew pub where a Saints fan I know by sight - possibly called Tubby (he was) had done his research well, and the bar was crowded with us. Some Russian drunk on the bus was going on about how great Putin was, although he looked like the desperate conscript type to me, so may no longer agree. But it was that sort of night. Public transport strike in the morning but luckily still managed to get my flight home. Were you one of the nippers who acted as if they were tipsy?

He also hit the post tonight from which rebound a team mate scored, but more importantly from our point of view he played 88 minutes. Minutes he wouldn't be getting here yet.

Haven't read the thread but my only question is, how the heck did Bolton manage to score 3 goals away to Wolves?!

Actually I'm not too worried about that. I've no more idea than you have but get the vibe that this was going to give him experience in the team, and a not easy away game too, and that he came off as planned with a "well done, you helped keep a clean sheet". Either way, part of a great team effort..

I thought Dobbin and Edozie also made decent contributions which should be acknowledged. Jander obviously not fully fit yet with that touch of cramp at the end. Good to give a few players a rest and some time for others; all in a good evening and a happy PO10 pub.

I see Portsmouth are also on Sky + as well as Citeh v PSG. Just hope my PO10 area pub shows Saints; they normally do when I go..

So Edozie's job is to attack the full back and get him booked, and then Scienza can come on against a tiring defender and hopefully not get clattered too much..

I'm not saying this in a disparaging way, but I haven't thought about him since he left and haven't really missed him. Not to say that we wouldn't be better with him and I couldn't think who the alternative was when I saw Stephens playing yesterday, but no gaping hole left. Schlotterbeck and the other defenders really proved their worth yesterday with all the blocks they made. Farmer Saint, what aspect of his game are they disappointed with? Surely extensive scouting covers the main attributes?

I wouldn't have quite used that vocabulary selection, but you have correctly identified the empathic, sensitive, infrequent and not at all self-opinionated contributions of that poster.. Whoops, I only noticed Tamesaint's contribution after I had typed the above, so wouldn't want to be thought of as joining any mass pile on. I'm still going to leave my postn though..
