One other thing. A word for the ref, who wasn't hoodwinked by West Ham's cheating antics, and didn't give pens when others would have. Probably didn't feel the pressure from their atmosphere-less stadium...

Agree. And judging by the way his teammates didn't exactly rush to congratulate him after he scored, plus the Austin penalty incident, plus Redmond giving him an earful at one point after a not great pass, he has to work on his social skills too. I thought we looked great eventually - some really good passing and interplay. VVD is immense and Barcelona should be his next destination in my view. Bit worried about Fonte though as he's been displaying his rashness a bit again. Head doesn't look right. Austin's pass for the second goal was brilliant and he looks really good for his 70 minutes a game. Hoijberg also excellent. If only we had more goals in the team in terms of finishing we'd be well set. Perhaps Boufal can help there. Am very much warming to this Puel chappie...

Great game and son enjoyed it immensely, although traffic meant missed first goal. Thought we were good with some good interplay, but when it breaks down it's a bit knife through butter, especially down our left. Similarly better teams would punish us, and especially when Yoshida does his moron back pass (that could have been crucial three minutes before half time). VVD though, is simply immense. My favourite player right now, and great to see him clasp his fists at the end and shout 'yes' as the final whistle went. Shows commitment. What a player. Nice finish from JayRod too, and great team goal, that. Martina was pretty good too, on the whole, though his marking is a bit sporadic. On the whole, a very positive start and hope it gives confidence and momentum for Sunday, which is a must win.

Bought tickets for tomorrow night worryingly easily. Surely we have to sell these games out, no? Might not get to Europe again...

Home win

Man U Man City Spurs Chelsea Liverpool Arsenal Leicester Stoke Palace West Ham relegated - Hull, Burnley, Bournemouth we'll stay up just about, maybe 14th or 15th. Will leak too many goals because of the Wanyama muscle hole, and won't score enough because we don't have a good enough striker. Also, Europe will test our thin squad and we will be plagued by resultant injuries. What were they thinking in not bolstering more?

I very much doubt it Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

We are still short of a proven goalscorer, too heavily dependent on midfield, and don't have the muscle in the middle to protect the back four. For me, it's a poor window thus far, when we should be reinvesting and stepping up to take on the prospect of Europe. Milan away makes me very scared

David Luiz back to Chelsea a year after £50m changed hands. Not money laundering at all. No sir. No way.
