Good enough first half display, but Wigan came out in the 2nd half and Martinez proved how good he was as a manager. Played to our weaknesses. We were far too slow on the ball, and didn't have much creativity in the team. Lallana was outstanding today however! Hopefully we can pull off a shock next week, but I have a feeling we will be coming from a long way behind....

This whole saga is doing my head in.

Hang on, so if a professional sportsman who is being left in the dark by his current club (Bologna) is seen to kick a ball around with a young kid, he is seen as disinterested and not worthy of our club? WTF? Are all of you insane? All he was doing was kicking a ball around with a kid. He's not gonna get games with Bologna it seems. OK, he could be working harder on the training paddock, but for FFS how can anyone say 'this isn't the sort of player we want at our club' based on this one piece of evidence. IF we sign him (unlikely), and he isn't match fit (likely), then all he needs is a bit of fitness training, and all of a sudden you have a player who will play 100% come match day. Or am I the one who is insane?
-
Doesn't sound so positive, but this does at least suggest that Bologna are very interested to sell. Will they blink? Or will Cortese slam the door shut, lock it and throw away the key.
-
He is an extremely similar player to Ledley King. Except when Dawson gets injured, he's usually out for 3 months at a time as opposed to 1 week.
-
By the sounds of things the ball is well and truly in Cortese's side of the court. It's now up to him to decide if we as a club are willing to spend so much money on one player. I'll be gutted if Ramirez doesn't end up coming, but I won't be blaming Cortese if this doesn't go through. Bologna must have a sticking point and at the end of the day so must we.

Pretty proud of that first half. WE'RE BACK!!! Great moment for Kelv, and for all the fans that travelled up there. 99% likely that that will be all we have to celebrate! Hopefully Lambert gets a run, even if it is practically ceremonial. Our only chances of scoring will come from 1 or 2 set pieces in this 2nd half. If Lallana can deliver a better ball we might get lucky...............
-
If this goes through I don't think I will be able to stop teasing the scousers.... haha! I trust Cortese with the finances. If for some horrible reason he walks and leaves us with the contract, I'd like to think we're not going to end up like that lot down the road. At least we'd pay the charities.

I've been scavenging around for some information on this too. It seems nothing is definitive. The only wording I have found that may suggest this is from the Portsmouth News, who state that 'they are available for the Cherries' or something to that effect. But being the Portsmouth News, that can't be taken seriously. It would be HILARIOUS if the Football League did go tough and not allow at least some of these players to sign. Who is to say that yesterday's signings was a desperate attempt from Birch and co to not only sell more tickets for Bournemouth, but to sell more Season Tickets?!?!?! Birch continues to say he hopes the deduction will be discounted even though we know the Football League will not be. People say Pompey could be in admin all season, but that just isn't financially viable. So they will have to take the hit at some point. Yet the phew lap this up as the chance to start on 'zero'. More Season Tickets sold? Hmmmmmm.... all very hopeful I know, the Football League will surely let them sign once paperwork is checked over. More interested in our season now it's about to begin.

http://www.football-league.co.uk/footballleaguenews/20120816/league-statement-portsmouth_2293334_2887028 Nothing statement from the Football League. Ignoring the obvious about signing players and the embargo. The whole thing is an absolute disgrace, but at least they are trying to go out with a bang. So as soon as Chainrai leaves the immediate scene, Appy's mega budget is magically restored despite the debt, and all of a sudden McLeod and co can put pen to paper. Or feather and ink to a piece of scroll. It stinks. They are all totally deluded.
-
Football League meeting tomorrow apparently. By the sounds of things Jordan Cross is hopeful they will not only allow them to sign players but might even discuss the points deduction. As if....... ....... ....... ...... surely
-
Good point, but I suppose if Birch believes that the Trust are a chance, he will keep it going for that little bit longer and potentially may compensate for this by increasing his fees. What a mess, the club is well and truly in mid-air and about to be thrown for an ippon.

Upon hearing this news, I literally laughed like an evil genius.

Today's choice of tweets from fans who just don't get it... Hinks7: "1.5m is a crazy wage budget for Appleton! that's only enough for 9 or 10 players on 3k a week! Not even enough for a starting XI! #Pompey" darrenpfc: "Just been told why Lawrence didn't stay with us!! He was offered 3k a week, he wanted 5k(well worth it) they rejected. Shocking #Pompey"

Isn't it obvious? Instant success is what they are supporting. Any way possible to win football matches in the short term, with no care for the long term. The test now lies with the Football League IMO. How strict will be their financial restrictions? If they allow Pompey to sign McLeod, Howard, Dumbuya, Rodgers and the rest, then we know that the Football League's words mean absolutely nothing. If they restrict them to only 1 or 2 of these, and the rest of them turn out to be absolute ****, then maybe we can say that they are actually doing something. The Pompey uproar will be huge if the Football League are true to their word regarding these restrictions.
-
I would absolutely love it if that was true, and that those words weren't just talk but actually action, but I have a feeling that we can expect to see the likes of McLeod, Howard and Riquelme signed on megabuck$ yet again. The FL will stand and admire, before everyone starts feeling sorry for them in a couple of years time when Pompey are "blameless" for a 3rd administration in 5 years.

Ben Ainslie - incredible! Hero, greatest sailor of all time! If only he wasn't Cornish

Saints announce how loyalty point scheme will work

Might be tough for foreign supporters who come and visit once and a while. I suppose it's our fault for buggering off... -
Dave "20 goal a season, 20k a week" Kitson and Sir Ben Haim... Southampton legends! Hahaha must be hilarious scenes.

Hahahaha, loving the post on POL offering to copy/paste their FA Cup celebrations. How...... ironic. King Kanu is front and centre too *chuckles* They celebrate and boast about their success and value a cup win more than their entire existance. It's for the good of football that they should start again.
-
Just as unfunny. Hurry up Clyne look what you are reducing us to...
-
Oui. Couldn't make it up. Pompey don't deserve to just die, they should be hung and quartered first. "Big spender" Appleton too.
-
"Those sad people from "up the road" really do have short memories. It was only a few years ago that they were in a similar state to us. Did their plunge into administration not leave many local businesses, etc. out of pocket?" Dumb **** They NEED to die, disgraceful actions taking those triallists. Makes me sick.
-
If true it's time for more emails to the Football League, clear evidence of intent to outbid rivals with cash they haven't got. Meanwhile the delusion about their 'greatest fans' is reaching new heights. Laughable stuff

Because he is corrupt as the next man and does not want Pompey on his CV. He will do anything he can, by any means, to keep them alive until someone else can be seen as responsible for 'killing the club'. But of course, nobody has the balls to be seen as the man who killed Portsmouth FC. So the saga will continue forever and ever and Pompey will continue to rip off local businessmen, not pay their tax and buy players they can't afford because nobody is going to stop them.
