I need to know the easiest and cheapest way of getting to Wood Green, Haringey (not far from Earls Cross), from the West Midlands. I can use Walsall, Wolverhampton, or any Birmingham Station. I was going to use National Express but thought i'd look into the train networks. I will be travelling next week, either Monday or Tuesday and it'll be off-peak. From what I can make out, Wood Green is best accessed from Victoria? I have been told that Turnpike Lane would be easier to get to and it's a five minute walk to Wood Green but I have only ever drove into London, so it's a case of gathering as much information as I can. Train prices seem expensive so any hints and tips would be welcome.

I keep getting this message every time that I try and access facebook from my laptop. I have undertaken a virus scan and for spyware/malware and there are no issues. So, why is my anti-virus software not allowing me to access? I have logged off and back on but it's still the same. Any ideas? I've worked and lived for twenty years in one of the most multi-cultural areas of the UK. Most people, regardless of ethnicity, will agree that it's now become a very difficult area to work in. I don't think you have any idea what you are talking about to be honest, another case of looking in from the outside and thinking you know better. I've worked on many projects within Birmingham, including one for the NHS to try and establish why there are problematic issues within some sections of the Asian community when dealing with mental health issues and some of the feedback we get from pockets of the Asian community were worrying - you'd have to see the feedback to understand what it has to do with race, creed, culture etc. How do I invent silly rules? Give me some examples? I'm against any form of managed multi-culturism, I don't like it staged and contrived. People have to get on with each other and that's made difficult for those (yourself), who failto grasp the underlying mindset of the underclass (not white). Most people get on, from all cultures, and we don't need politicians to invent laws to tell us how to manage and conduct ourselves. If you have a degree of common sense then it's not a problem. It becomes a problem when politicians think they speak on behalf of the working class people that live and work together without a major problem, as there usually isn't one. You seem to think I have a problem with not being racist, where in my example have I mentioned anything about myself. I'm looking at it from the mindset of many members of the carribean community, in their forties who are reminded that the language they use is offensive. 'Caste' is a Latin word, it has no derogatory meaning or intent, except in the mind of someone who wishes to be offended. It may be an old term now but I think any reasonably minded 'black' person would be a bit offended if he was told "that's considered a racist term" by a teacher, for talking of his children as 'Half-Caste' - that is where resentment surfaces as it's just not offensive or racist. It's an old term that some people still choose to use and what is wrong with that if it has no malicious meaning, it's not like words such as the obviously racist ones. I've dealt with every ethnicity too, on a daily basis for over twenty years - your point? I've worked in schools too, both here and abroad? Your point?

I agree, it's a minefield and accepted words or phrases change with the OTT PC brigade. Example - I grew up in an area where there were a high proportion of different cultures. A friend of mine, who is black and married to a white lady often refers to his kids as half-caste. It's perfectly normal and acceptable to him (He's in his 40's). He gets offended when he is pulled up on this; usually be white people in authority. He just can't see what's wrong with that term. The term 'mixed race' is often, or was used but that is frowned upon now too and the term 'dual heritage' is often said to be the correct terminology. So, who says who is offended? Who makes the decisions on behalf of the people? I ask the above question as most people I know have a degree of common sense and recognise that there is no malice and yet we get told that we shouldn't use these terms. When my friend is 50, he'll still use 'half-caste'; so will his wife, yet it's offensive to others but it's perfectly acceptable to him and his missus.

I am looking to buy an android phone in the next few weeks, there are so many on the market that it's overwhelming if you don't know all the jargon. So, i'll tell you what I need it for and maybe someone can advise me of the best ones. Basically: It needs to be unlocked Be under £200 (ish) Be able to run a fair few apps, most of which must be OS 2.0 (No idea what that means) Most use will be for text messages and internet. I will be getting a Giff Gaff Sim card, I assume they are ok with android phones, It'll need to be reasonably fast but I won't need it for streaming, Youtube etc, just surfing the net, facebook and so on. I have been told to get an HTC but these seem to be over the £200 for a decent one.

Not always and on the same lines. I can remember booking tickets from Ticketmaster a few years ago and I was charged a 'Handling Fee', but the handling fee was 'per ticket'. So, the tickets were sent in one envelope, handled by the same person but they charged per ticket. Now if that isn't unfair then I don't know what is. I don't know if Ticketmaster still operate this way but I called their customer service and met with a total wall of resistance. Basically, yes that's right we charge per ticket to handle them. We have never denied this....blah, blah, blah. Effectively, they were quite blunt and had no ethical issue with it. I had no choice but to accept that or else I didn't get a ticket.

ime to reel this timeless classic out again. This was written by Dune a few years ago ;-)

I think that statement nails it for me. Questions that countries will seek to find. 1) What do we stand to lose? 2) What do we stand to gain? If the overall gain is greater then the loss then some of these countries will vote 'Yes'......they are all feathering their own nest and Cameron was right to ensure they didn't take the feathers to do this from our own little nest. Countries like Lithuania are spitting their dummy, I wonder why that is? Take, take, take!!!!

Hotmail IP address - Country verification
Barney Trubble replied to Barney Trubble's topic in Technology Chat
Thanks Badger, very interesting stuff. I am glad you advised as I might have ruined a good relationship for someone. They asked me if I knew a way of finding out about this and I asumed that this was the way to go about it - obviously not. So really, there is no fool-proof way of establishing if someone is sending an email from a specific country, using hotmail? -
Hotmail IP address - Country verification
Barney Trubble replied to Barney Trubble's topic in Technology Chat
Thanks Badger, so Hotmail simply generates proxy IP addresses which just tell me where the mail server is located? I was using this site http://aruljohn.com/track.pl. Basically a friend is receiving emails from someone who is supposed to be in Malaysia but when I put the IP address into that site it states that it's being sent from Australia. Is this accurate or not? Thanks -
I have been contacted by someone who wishes to buy an item from me but the auction has ended. We have agreed a lower price and I am happy to sell to them. However, they require me to send them an invoice for the amount agreed and I can't see how to do this. Has anyone else had experience of this and how did you solve it?
-
Could anyone advise me how I manage to find which country and email has been sent from using Hotmail? I remember at one time, there was a way of checking the IP address. Also, is it 'whois' that can verify the server that it was sent from? Thanks

If Terry is not guilty, surely he can sue the Police, papers or even the liar that made up the allegations? I still can't make out what he's supposed to have said. If Jeremy Clarkson had of said what Terry was alleged to have said then we could have just laughed it all off because that's just the way Clarkson is. I think Terry's legal team should just say he was having a bit of banter, you know what Terry's like, always one for a controversial comment and all that ;-)
-
I'm all for Clarkson, he's usually right about half the things that he says. However, he's an absolute cock, like most of the people that drivel over his jokes, I imagine he's a closet racist, like a lot of his admirers on here. (see above) I bet there are a few of the posters above, tissues in hand to **** off when he spurts his nonsense, as for that little freak that presents with him, maybe he would have been better of dead in that crash, instead of dying on his feet on air.* *All meant in a Jezzy Clarkson crazy, zany sense of humour way.
-
He should be shot, not the nurses. I'm sure he'll collect his £1 million of taxpayers money without a slight bit of conscience, whilst the nurses work 24/7. It's a fair point that's been made. If I said Blacks and Asians should be shot, let's say if they were striking about an issue close to their heart, then I laughed it off. I mean, it's just me and my crazy sense of humour isn't it? Well you know the outcome. What next, what if the Jews were striking or demonstrating, how about....."let's gas them!!!!" *Everybody falls about laughing at my witty sense of humour and the total hilarity of my quirky personality* *** ***Not of course.

Dan - I have emailed you. Mat - I think you bought some off me on ebay, I might be getting you mixed up with another business though. I will take a look again though and see if there are any left.

Spot on! We will never change their mindset, we need to accept that that is the way some countries are and stop assuming that we have some moral high ground over them.

LOL - I've just found a programme with our dear Franny playing up front for England. It was June '84 v Netherlands as a schoolboy! freaky.

I will be selling another batch of Saint's memorabilia over the next few weeks, programmes, books, ticket stubs, shirts (most already sold), hats, scarves etc If there is anything specific that you want, drop me a message or PM with your email and I'll get back to you if I can help. I've just found the programme for the pre-season friendly against Feyenoord in 2001, that brought back some good memories of a baking hot weekend in Amsterdam. I am amazed at what I have stashed away and totally forgotten about over the years. I even found a rosette from about 1980, sod knows where that came from.
