If Labour offered a decent alternative UKIP wouldn't have to win one seat to be a threat, just have to take enough of the Tory vote. Corbyn means that won't happen though. But fact is at the next Election Labour can play the back in EU card wheras the Tories have to keep the right happy.

Agree, but I think either a Brexit Lite, or a Full on Brexit resulting in a bad effect on the economy would see swathes of middle England turning to a pro EU labour - if it was centre left with a decent leader.

True, but I think the Tories have got themselves in a tricky position. If May pussies out and goes for some sort of soft Brexit they will get a kicking. They have to somehow make a hard exit work to keep their right wingers from turning to UKIP.

Apart from the PM, Chancelor and Brexit Boris all jumping ship days after the result. They didn't appear to have any sort of plan for Brexit, and still don't IMO.

A Lab/lib merger would be the only alternative. Just creating another Labour Party would just split the vote and be an even bigger gift to the Tories. Unfortunately I think the best move would be just to let him get on with it and hope he stands down after the next general election defeat. The whole thing is so frustrating, the Tories have made a right mess with this Brexit thing and I can't see an easy way out for May, a decent Labour would wipe the floor with them at the next election IMO.

This protracted leadership contest just illustrates how unelectable Labour are at the moment. Exactly how long does the simple task of picking a leader take? I despise the Tories but at least they just got the job done. Pick a few electable candidates, it becomes obvious who will win so the others drop out. Labour are doing all this ****ing around when everyone knows who will win. And after the whole sorry saga they will end up with someone the rest of the MPs hate. How can you trust a party to run a country when they can't even get something this simple right. Hopefully it will result in the death of Labour and we get a new centre left party devoid of all the ******** and without the ties to the unions.

If we use the same criteria for EU as we do currently for the ROTW most of the people coming in from Poland etc wouldn't get in.

You said it's as easy to come here from the rest of the world as the EU which is clearly ******. You can just turn up from Africa with your kids and get a cleaners job. Most non EU migration is just students anyway.

That's nonsense, Three-quarters of EU citizens working in the UK would not meet the current visa requirements for non-EU workers.

You could stop every single non EU immigrant but we still wouldn't know if net migration is 100,000 or 500,000. If is completely out of control so the government has no reason to stop doctors and nurses coming in from Asia. Plus, there are only so many controls you can realistically put on immigration. Some control is better than none.

Well they cared enough to vote for Brexit despite it clearly having a potentially negative impact on the economy so maybe your little survey was about as accurate as the other polls.

It's called voting. At the moment it doesn't matter who we vote for in regards to immigration and it's effects. That's why the subject has been ignored by all our major parties, thats why most people ignored them on referendum day.

Of course we could. If the governments immigration policy is not working they could be voted out if an alternative policy seems better. At the moment our government has no control of the numbers so our votes, like any immigration policy, are meaningless. It's not that hard to understand.

Who else were people supposed to vote for in the FPTP system? Miliband or the Lib Dems were both pro immigration so dodgy Dave's 10k promise is the best they could hope for. Vote for anyone other than the main three parties you might as well roll you poll card up and shove it up your arse. People obviously cared about immigration because they prefer the Brexit leap in the dark to what they have at the moment.

I'm not sure non EU immigration was a problem before hundreds of thousands started turning up from Europe as well each year. we are seeing levels of immigration way higher than ever before (except during WW2 I believe). Where they come from is irrelivant, it's the shear numbers. Why do you think dodgy Dave promised to get it down to 10s of thousands if it wasn't an issue for the electorate?

Just because the average EU immigrant pay is higher doesn't mean that companies having an unlimited pool of low skilled labour doesn't depress wages for the low paid. The average doesn't tell the whole story, especially when it's the low paid british workers who's pay is forced down. A few European footballers or high paid bankers can easily skew the average. We employ loads of Polish at my company because they are cheap. It always used to be British people doing the same jobs.

If nothing is done about immigration after we have left and there are still the same issues then the government will be held to account. At the moment there is no one we can vote for to do anything.

The main reason I sided with out was because uncontrolled mass immigration means downward pressure on wages, pressure on public services and a housing problem that is impossible to resolve. Hopefully now we are out these problems can at least be started to be looked at, wether they are or not is a different matter. At least if they are not we can elect a government with a different plan, at the moment whoever we elect are powerless to do anything about the above. You get situations like 'Call me Dave' getting elected on the promise to get immigration down to the 10s of thousands when he knew all along he had no control whatsoever.

Why else did Cameron promise a refurendum at the last general election if it wasn't to win over potential UKIP voters?
