Cortese, because it's what the Leibherrs want. If they wanted Lowe they would hire Lowe. -

I'm happy with whoever the Leibherrs want to employ, the important thing is having rich backers, whoever they choose to run the thing is not that important IMO. -
I expect the new owners are actually desperate for an embargo after looking at the list of players their retarded fans want signed.

To be fair, given the resources we have I would have backed even Lowe to get us out of League 1. -

Don't be such a pleb, I was merely pointing out the fact that getting Saints out of League 1 hardly qualifies him as being the best chairman in the country. -

Chill out man, just saying it how it is. I'm not having a pop at Cortese or anyone, I am perfectly happy with how the club is being run. Jesus christ can't someone have an opinion round here. -

I'm sorry I'm wrong. Cortese is a genius. Getting a small club like southampton promoted from League 1 is an achievement unparalleled in the world of football. Being almost as good as Brighton over a season is remarkable considering he worked on such a shoestring, only racking up £7mill debt. -

Where did I say he has done a bad job dickhead, I think he's done a good job. A club the size of Southampton should p!ss League 1 even without a billionare backer -

I mean seriously. How to get a club the size of Southampton, backed by billionaires out of League 1: Step 1: Find a good manager Step 2: Sign a few cheques Step 3.... oh wait it's done. -

It must be really hard to run a football club owned by multi-billionaires, well done Niccy. -

I can't believe they actually want to stop rich people investing in the game. I expect donations will just be counted as income along with everything else, they just don't want clubs racking up huge debts. There are millions of ways rich owners could get round any rules, stopping people pumping money in would be futile and counter-productive.

It was naive to think he wouldn't go. Even though I think he would probably develop better playing first team football for a couple more seasons as a pro you have to take these opportunities when they arise. £12mill cash would be good business, especially considering Leibherr only paid around 15 for the whole club.
-
Obviously if there are ways around it it won't matter, but we wouldn't be able to do what we did this/last season (rack up £7mill odd of debt) under the new rules.
-
Of course having a billionaire owner gives Saints an edge, my point is that it will be nowhere near the edge we could have if we can't spunk millions on new players. That is an undeniable fact.
-
1: We will probably be in this league more than 1 season 2: All clubs are aware of it 3: Building a bigger stadium probably wont help us in The Championship where we will rarely sell out 4: We are not a big Championship club so this is nonsense 5: Our only hope of gaining an decent advantage if these rules come into effect
-
That's typical, finally get owned by billionaires and they change the bloody rules. This could obviously have a negative effect on us.
