if we were so great in the summer of 1981, anyone care to explain how it all went wrong over the next nine years or so until we ended up screaming for branfoot to go?

Sorry, I don't really like the wanton disdain being thrown around on here for other fan sites. This website is just as guilty as any other for producing spurious gossip and rumours, it is no more reliable than any other source. Fansonline is run by an average saints fan. Rather bizarrely I met the guy at work event last month and it come out inconversation that he ran a Saints fans website when we realised we both lived in Southampton. He was as genuine as any person you'd meet. As far as I'm concerned, he would play no part in any deliberate plan to scupper a potential deal. The likeliest story is that he is reproducing information he has been given by a source. That is exactly the same thing that happens on here day in day out, so let's all get down off our high horses and wait and see what happens.

**** a snoop!?!?!?!

I hope the person is ok and you all regret your unnecessary venom.

Thanks to those who responded to my posts with some reasoned debate. For what it's worth, I was pursuing the arguments I put forward after somebody tried the same tactic against me during a recent discussion. My intention isn't to be overly negative about Saints and I certainly wasn't trying to suggest that I believe the potentially negative points about the club. Moreover, my intention was to make us realise that we have to avoid becoming over complacent about our status and the appeal we may hold for potential managers. Depending on what sort of man Tisdale, or any other manager is, they may see the glass half full or glass half empty version of Saints. You could argue that they're not the right man if they choose to turn down an approach for the sorts of reasons I suggested. However, my main aim is that we shouldn't necessarily be surprised if we are turned down by some of the managers being suggested. There are always two sides to every story etc. For what it's worth though, I don't want Wotte here long term and I hope that a new appointment is one that brings a united fan base.

Or an outsider could accuse us of ... half empty stadium fickle fans ... with high / unrealistic expectations. history of board room squabbles financial uncertainty (although nobody is well place to comment on this currently) best players possibly wanting out due to relegation. squad ill suited to league one.

You're answering questions with questions. I asked first. Put our own fondness for our club aside and ask yourself why should we be such an attractive proposition for any manager?
-
Isn't tisdale at exeter who are in the same division as saints? Why would he be so desperate to move a club in the same division after experiencing so much success at his current club?
-
I sincerely hope this is not true. Crouch has many qualities that mean he is not cut out to be a football chairman and would be an unsettling presence on the board. He opens his mouth much too quickly for my liking and reveals himself to be far from astute in the relevant matters. He would be hot headed and would be the source of much disruption. The money argument carries little credence. As others have said, you shouldn't be able to buy a place on the board. Passion is not the key ingredient when it comes to making an effective board member. For his sums of money we are grateful, but they don't counteract the negative qualities he has that I've already outlined.

boris is a legend. Without a doubt, he should be pm.

those of us interested in ex-saints.

I'm sure you could pick up run out gt models for £20k back in the Spring.

I'm sure he has a few 'fans' for the important public service he provides.

I've no idea, i heard nothing about that. He's a 'big lad' if that helps with the identification.

The owner isn't the most popular guy in the world. He is one Carl Farelly (spelling?), owner of Frontline Security, Southampton's most (in)famous wheel clamping firm. Looks like he's developing his business empire to other, equally savoury, interests.

tis rubbish indeed. bet it saved us a few bob though.

The best bit today was seeing all our rumours reprinted in the echo. Why don't they just go the whole hog and start attributing the rumours to specific posters so we can all have our five minutes of fame?
-
That's interesting .... I hadn't made the petro-chemicals link tbh, I just had my own suspicions. I could make some enquiries and find out if he is our man or not but I'd rather not. It'll all come out in the wash soon!

They are not going to give tickets away ... a balance has to be struck. I'd be surprised to see prices lower than £350 per adult in any section of the ground.

if not ... pinnacle out right?
