  1. The problem may be (and I'll add emphasis on the may) that if in 5 years times the plan has failed and the money is required to be paid back, then we might have a hard time finding the wonga to pay it back!!!! Personally, I have faith and trust in the Liebherr estate that we will not be left in a pickle, hence the may. As with above, if you either can't sell the house, or have to sell it for less than you were expecting or if your Dad calls in your loan earlier than expected, then you might be in a pickle. I'm not saying this will happen in our circumstances, but I don't think we should be ignorant of any possibilities given both our own and football's history.
  2. Problem is that we don't know if that is indeed the case. It could be possible that the "loans" are never to be repaid. They could just as easily be seen to be gifts (over time converted to shares) and not repayable on promotion, or even on the sale of the Club. We just don't know either way. However, if they are repayable upon promotion then people would do well to remember that, as the first chunk of Sky monies wouldn't go to rebuilding the team, it would instead go to paying back these loans. Alternatively, if the loans are to be repaid when the Club is sold then it will be probable that the "new" owner sticks the amount he has paid to buy the Club as debt on to the Club (as has happened elsewhere) leaving this debt to be serviced by the Club. Whilst I am fairly confident with regards Liebherr and the Trust he left behind, it doesn't mean I'm ignorant/blind/inconcerned of what could be around the corner (no matter how remote it seems at them moment) and as others have said, I don't think it is unreasonable to want to know a bit more. The only reason we are liquid and have cash in the bank is because of the £20m shareholder loans that have injected cash in to the Club. We are cash negative on normal operations so certainly not liquid enough in that sense.
  3. The bit that backs on to the railway in the Kingsland/Chapel corner???? Can't think of anything else!!!!
  4. TBF I wouldn't be using Stu's rants as some sort of objective point to argue against. The way he is ranting (mostly inaccruately) about the numbers isn't worth getting wound up about. I'm with you in that I am comfortable with the words and actions of the Liebherrs to date (backed up by some of the numbers and statements in the accounts), but there does seem to be a fair few who are anxious about these numbers (and perhaps understandably so given our recent past and what has been witnessed at other Clubs!!), so would asking for some clarification be seen as being asking for too much???
  5. In some ways I admire your "whatever will be" approach as there is most definitely an argument for the line that we can do nothing about the big numbers and just have to take it on the chin (and trust those in charge) so why worry about it, but do you not also think there could be a case for someone to come out and put some people's minds at rest???
  6. I think I would be being sentimental if I thought this was a good idea. It sounds good, but then I realised that his exploits down here were 8 or so years ago and at 33 I think he is most definitely past his best. 4 years ago, yes, now I don't think so.
  7. John, I think you may have misread my post (and intentions) as I'm most definitely sat in the camp that says Liebherr was (and still is) acting as benefactor in much the same way as those other decent benefactors we have seen in recent times (Walker, Gibson etc). EDIT sorry, I thought you were referring to my posts, when I now assume you were referring to Granty's (that said, the following still applies). That said, given some of the obvious concern and other scare mongering I have seen, would it be too much to ask for someone to come out and formally clear this up and state what the arrangements are (without prejudicing the commercial position of the Club)??? Given football's chequered past, I don't think it's being too nosey just to be cautious and inquisitive about how your Club is financed.
  8. Portsmuff FC accounts April 2008 - one more win and FA Cup Winners and a European Tour.
  9. BDO LLP are the auditors, just across the marina from me!!!!!!! With the Shareholder Loans being payable after 5 years, there is some reassurance there!!!!
  10. Would it be deemed inappropriate to seek to find answers/reassurances to your points above???? Would it be seen as sniping and sticking your nose in???? Or would it be seen as just needing reassurance regarding something that we have seen is so important to many people and the local community???? Personally, I was under the impression that Liebherr was acting as a "benefactor" and in addition to stumping up the initial cash to buy us (and pay off Aviva etc) he was also funding us whilst we were in the lower divisions (always thought we were, and still are, running at a loss) and this money would not be expected to be repaid (although like most benefactors, I also assumed there would be an upper limit to his generosity).
  11. I'll have to dig out my old copy of the Companies Act to have a look, but from my hazy memory Ithink you have to include all emlouments paid during the year, even if the person was only appointed as a Director part way through. Nice wedge though either way!!!!!!
  12. Whoever came up with that figure must have included the stewards, old bill, ball boys and flags to get to that many. Seemed much less!!!!!!! An awful turnout on a par with Dagenham and Redbridge midweek earlier in the season.
  13. Much better performance tonight. Looke decent from the off and kept it going for most of the match. Lost a bit of shape & momentum when Lallana went off, but never looked as though we were going to do anything but win. Back five were really solid and both Richardson and Dickson had good games (Jaidi & Fonte as solid as usual). The new lad, Stephens, didn't seem to do much before he got crocked, but then again not sure Chaplow did much either. Interesting to hear Adkins quite positive about lallana and Stephens as both looked well crocked going off the pitch (Stephens on a stretcher and a lot of fuss over Lallana before he hobbled off). Thought Guly played well (very well taken goal) and Lambert and Barnard did what was asked up front. Whilst tonight's performance wasn't champagne, it was closer to what we are capable of. Just hope the price paid (a couple of injuries) isn't too dear. Have to say disappointed by the attendance and horrified at Charlton's turnout. I reckon about 10% (300ish) of what we took there a fortnight ago.
  14. You may have hit the nail on the head. Your kids would either hand the phone over, or then if punished they would be worried about the effect it would have on their education and also what you would say to them when they got home. They would either have respect for the teachers, for you, for themselves or for all three. Sadly too many parents wouldn't care if their kids were using their phones in class, nor would they care what the consequences would be. As for some of the kids then sadly any follow up would mean nothing to them as they don't value their education and there is no punishment that can cause them to alter their way of thinking and nothing their parents can do either (that's if the parents are keen to do it anyway). Taking your next step of "I would expect the teacher to send them to the headmaster", then for many the next act on their part would be a) refuse to go to the Headmaster, or b) go but refuse to hand over the phone. Logically the next move would be an a) isolation room, or b) sent home, or c) temporary exclusion. Their reaction to a) might be to refuse to go to the isolation room (so fast track to b or c) or to go to the isolation room and doss around (fast track to b or c). Their reaction to b) or c) might be "good news, I don't have to go to school", particularly if the parent has no control and/or doesn't care, so ultimately they've got what they want.
  15. Would certainly say "not very good" as opposed to "abysmal" (a tad harsh), but I would also take exception with NickG's view that we were playing lovely football. The formation in the first part of the game was wrong, too many players couldn't play in it, we didn't have enough width and the midfield was overcrowded. Guly and others were trying one sexy pass too many and too many were making the wrong choices in the final third. We never had a clear chance in the first half and can't remember their keeper making a save in anger. MK Dons didn't threaten either, but then again they were happy with a point until they went ahead.
  16. What if she said you're not having it?
  17. Middle row, fourth in. Turin Shroud
  18. Knee jerk me up. That's twice in two days, you've morphed in to Alpine & Dune's love child. But on a serious note, go away and do some more reading and then come back with a more informed opinion as your opening tirade is somewhat wide of the mark.
  19. have to agree that I think their manager made an error and went defensive after their second inviting us on to them. He'd taken off Vine and replaced him with a midfielder and then took Baldock off and replaced him with a winger.
  20. Personally thought he was a bit anonymous and on a couple of occasions the game was passing him by. Towards the end of the game he seemed to be trailing behind MK Dons midfielders who were pouring forward. That said it was only 20 mins and the first time he had played with his team mates, so not long enough for him to get accustomed to them and what was expected of him etc. Additionally, the period he came on was rather frantic and a tad end to end, so a bit difficult to put your foot on it and take control!!!!!!! Certainly looking forward to seeing him play, and a midfielder with a 1 in 4 goal ratio this year is promising. Wouldn't change the centre pairing for him just yet, but good to have him as back up in the hectic run in.
  21. Although Lallana (and then Fonte) must be the closest thing to it. I don't think people are actually looking for the faultless player and most I have seen have been fair in their assessments of players' performances (particularly when we have seen the same players and team play much better) and at worst pointing out who hasn't played at their optimum. I also accept that players are fallible, particularly at this level, and that it is much harder to be consistent. I interpret most of these types of posts as a fair and honest opinion of what people have seen (ignoring the few barbed weirdos) and not some sort of bitter tirade. If anything, I find those who attack those giving their honest opinion as rather more strange. As for Davis, I can't think of anyone in this division who I would swap him with (and only a few in the Division above), but that doesn't mean people shouldn't express their opinion (and even their doubts) about his performance yesterday. I thought his distribution was really good yesterday, an area he sometimes get criticism for, but I think even he will be disappointed by being beaten at the near post. I was sat in the Kingsland in line with Baldock and Davis showed him too much of the goal. Butterfield giving Baldock too much room, a tiny deflection and even it being a good strike doesn't take away the fact that I think Davis should have got something on it (IMHO of course). I was in the same position for the Posh goal at their place which seemed very similar.
  22. Have to agree about the ref, he seemed to let a lot go and the game flowed better because of it. As you say much better than many we have had. Certainly can't remember any barking decisions (although he bottled it when one of their players roughed him up a bit).
  23. I think most of the older fans would also have experienced a sojourn in the second division where the standard in the 70's wasn't that great. Seriously some of the football back then wasn't all glory stuff (not helped by atrocious pitches either). Additionally, they have experienced performances and players who by modern comparisons would scare you. There can be no doubt that football across the board has improved immensely (the skill level, fitness levels etc are streets ahead of what we used to watch) and I don't think it would be unrealistic to say that the current team would have given some of our older teams a run for their money. I'm certainly more than aware of what division we're playing in and that therefore we are unlikely to see superstars or champagne football (that said, we are lucky to be able to watch Lallana and a few other decent players) and I also don't think people have been over critical in their reviews. I don't see any problem in suggesting we're not playing at our best and that some performances have been under par.
  24. 25 mins is current form????
  25. I admired his chicken like second half runs as much as his sublime skill today. He was running his socks off at the end. Top man.
