  1. Not sure when it was, but definitely in the second half when he got caught in possession (Kingsland side) and the player nipped in from behind and Lambert then kicked the player. But I didn't think it was that serious. He lipmed about gingerly for a few minutes, but then put a shift in almost straight away. Think one of Lambert's problems is the name he made for himself last season when almost anything he hit or headed was going flying in!!!! He's still been very good for me this season, just think the expectations are much higher given how prolific he was last year.
  2. It will be a very big call, but I would have no problems taking a point at Brighton and resting Lallana to give him a better shot at the other four games. We are a different team with him, so need to do everything we can to get as many minutes out of him.
  3. Definitely one of the positives for me as I never thought we got to the panicky stage and starting to lump it forward etc. As opposed to some other games I always thought we were going to sneak one at some point yesterday. Adkins probably enforced this on them, so well done if he did, and fair play to some of the senior players (Fonte, Lambert etc) who looked to be trying to calm things down and get the ball flowing.
  4. One of the best seasons for quite a while (also enjoyed the enthusiasm and optimism of last season as well though). Winning more obviously helps, but there is also quite an upbeat feel about St Mary's as well. Quite a few goals, some good comebacks and a few decent players coming through. That said, I'm not sure how that impacts on imparting an honest assessment after a relatively "poor" performance and always find it a tad weird how if you give a critical review (even if constructive or perhaps if you have high standards and want players to perform as you know they can) then you are somehow marked down as a moaner or someone not enjoying the football on offer. Rather weird IMHO. And the contentious point here is whether Lambert missed 5 sitters?? I really struggle to work out where the other 4 have come from. Additionally, surely by suggesting he missed those 5 sitters you're as guilty as others for criticising and moaning at the players???? Are you not enjoying this season? winky thing.
  5. Will have to get ITN out to see if that was the game our train got bricked at Goring-By-Sea or if that was the game we went in one of those 7 seater Peugeots (but managed to get 9 in - lots of kids back then!!!). Can definitely remember quite a few draws down there in those games.
  6. Didn't come across right, as certainly not having a go at Lambert, who despite not being as prolific this year, still shows his class in other ways. I just wasn't sure that he had 5 clear cut chances yesterday that he failed to socre from.
  7. In late 70's/early 80's we played at their place once in the old Div 2 and then 4 times in the old Div 1, plus a game in the 86 FA Cup. After that I don't think it was until the recent games that we were reacquainted with each other!!!!!
  8. Of course it's no more than my opinion, but I do think Huddersfield and Posh will drop at least two points in their run in. That said, I thought Charlton would be the second best chance of points being dropped for the Terriers, so who knows. I think 3 wins and a draw might only be required and that is definitely possible. Like you I do have concerns over how our recent performances will translate in to wins over the next 5 games, but we have been managing to grind out results (Rochdale excepted), so there is some comfort there. The other worry is the injuries that are being picked up with Lallana being the most significant and now maybe Barnard to be added to Chamberlain, Chaplow, Spiderman etc. I'd rather be in our position than having to rely on others to drop points, but there is no doubt it will be tight and we will make hard work for ourselves.
  9. I presume the easiest chance was the second half header up the Chapel end that he really should have put away. It looked close, but I was quite a distance away so wouldn't be surprised if it was miles wide!!!! But 4 others you would expect him to put away????? I'm all up for being positive and upbeat, but that really is stretching it somewhat.
  10. Guly's goal looks even better on there. I thought he jinxed past one player, but didn't realise he did two and finished so cooly!!! A real bit of class from the man. Forte's earlier header still looks like a bit of a scuff to me and didn't realise he was that unmarked. For some reason, unlike some recent games I always thought we were going to score.
  11. Petty Little agendas??? LMFAO. I think Dickson should have been more adventurous in the first half and pushed on a bit and you interpret that as a part of a grand plan to undermine the Club. You're coming acorss as a right **** LMFAO.
  12. Slate??? And there I was thinking this was football forum where people could share their thoughts and opinions on the game they had just seen. FWIW, I was 100% behind every player at the match today as I am at all the matches I go to. I find nothing controversial in giving my all to the team at the game and then being honest about how I feel afterwards. Football is all about opinions and I'm sure we'll never always agree on how players played. However, your little digs just make you look like a ****.
  13. Looking back I think there were a few decent chances. As you say Lamberts free header up the Chapel and Forte stabbing wide at the same end. Forte's header up the other end looked as though he scuffed it a bit!!!, but Guly's early effort was well saved. We probably were better than my initial thoughts, but I still felt we were misfiring and given the squad we really should be playing better. But seeing it in the flesh is not the same as listening on the radio, and it does annoy me somewhat how people can be so cutting or opinionated when they didn't even go. There will always be a difference of opinions from those who go, let alone those who just look at the BBC website.
  14. And what did you think of those chances??? Don't want to get too lairy, but if you weren't at the match then looking at stats (or even listening in) means fook all.
  15. I quite agree. I kept an eye out for our new signing and most of the first half found myself wincing!!!!! Picked up in the second half, so hopefully he's still finding his feet (otherwise I think I might struggle to see where he gets those goals and rave reviews from).
  16. Don't worry about your comment, or how it was received, didn't have a problem with it at all. Agree that football is all about opinions, so more than happy to disagree (or agree).
  17. We were just as poor for the rest of the first half as we were for the first 30 mins of it. Marginally better in the second, but not that had loads to do with Seabourne over Jaidi (who I reckon was injured and not tactical anyway).
  18. More than happy to stick by my comment that Dickson was poor in the first half. Being in the Kingsland means you get a good look at our left backs (and wingers) and Dickson was not up to his usual standards today and Harding has offered much more going forward. He got better in the second, but was still as guilty out there, along with a few others, who surrenderted possession too often. Dickson can play much better than that first half performance, then again so could about 8 or 9 of the players on show today.
  19. Connoly was ready to come on just before Barnard got crocked, but didn't see who was originally going to be pulled off. Maybe Guly or Forte??? Would have been surprised if it was Barnard or Lambert.
  20. I'd agree that Danny "hit crosssfield and hope" Butterfield's was poor (particularly his distribution), so at least we agree on that. Not sure what you're saying re Dickson as on one hand you're saying he was overlapping and then the next you're saying he wasn't as he was right not to overlap Guly??? There were three occasions in the first half when he just hung back, when there was space to push on. On the one occasion he did go on the overlap he got in a decent cross. Did you miss the time in the second half when on three straight occasions he either passed to one of their players or got caught in possession??? He finished the game better (and I think he's a decent player), but for me that doesn't atone for his poor first half and mistakes early in the second. Also agree about Guly, he failed to track back, looked disinterested at times and was frustrating. Glad Adkins noticed it. The lad is a bit of an enigma and can go from a Frankie Bennett to Rod Wallace in two minutes.
  21. First half Dickson was awful. A couple of times Guly had the ball in front of me and it was crying out for a Hardingesque overlap, but Dickson just hung back. Second half he gave the ball away a few times, once almost cost us dearly and his general distribution was poor. Looked better in the final 20 mins when he pushed on, but IMHO for the majority of the game I would have given him a 5 at best.
  22. IMHO first half we were very poor, gave the ball away, shape didn't look right (again) and too many individual errors. Midfield in particular was very poor with Stephens looking woeful. Forte huffed and puffed, but just reminded me of George Lawrence (and he wasn't much of a player!!!!) and Guly seemed disinterested at times (although I did turn to Exit2 and tell him the lad is an engima and will do something special later!!!). Hammond was OK, his usual self, but that midfield was not very clever. Butterfield and Dickson were also very poor in the first half, but many would say the worst performance on the pitch cam from the referee. Not sure how it stayed 11 a side, given how quick he was to brandish the yellow cards. Second half was better from a pressure perspective, but football only improved marginally. Think Rovers invited us on to them which was probably a mistake as we weren't playing well and they could have punished us. A few more chances, Lambert in particular missed what looked like an easy header and Forte missed another. Once again we were misfiring today, but the end result is three points in the bag. Downside was what looked like a very bad injury to Barnard who I don't think we will see again this season. At one point the Club doctor was on the pitch which is not a good sign.
  23. I think fans of most clubs would lament the leaving (willingly or unwillingly) of players, but I do sometimes wonder whether we have more than our fair share??? Maybe it is a direct result of a successful Academy (we can't play them all) and also something to do with our revolving managerial door policy of recent years (each new manager comes in and plays his own players). One positive, one negative????? As for Kachloul, then have to say he was one of my favourite players in that era (desptie his short stay) as I managed to get to know him off the pitch and enjoyed the way he played on it (I was never sure how good he was though!!!!!). He was also part of a pretty decent team and watching the Arsenal YouTube clip someone posted up here reminded me of how close we were to having a very decent side (before that team was split up). His two goals in that game also helped!!! It was Ipswich, not Norwich, that he agreed to sign for only to renege, and given the terms we were offering him for a new contract (along with the "He could live like a King back in hi own country" quote) I could see why his agent was suggesting he could get more elsewhere (Ipswich were offering something like double, whilst Villa quadrupled+ his earnings). In an era where I do think players have too much power and are paid too much, even I found it difficult to criticise someone who ultimately was looking after number one.
  24. 7-1 with Dawson gone!!!!! Looks like there will be a result on this pitch and if we hadn't dropped so many chances yesterday (did I read we put down SEVEN!!!) then it may have been possible to sneak a win. As it stands, our best hope is to bat long and pray for some dark clouds (no chance of rain though). Given our injuries and the opponents I was happy with a draw against Durham and would definitely take a draw here (and concentrate on beating weaker sides). PS Minty were you looking for a game of cricket at some point (we're running two sides on Tuesdays this year and one on a Saturday and could always do with a few new faces)?????
  25. That was that dastardly Nick Illingsworth and a few other reproabtes. It was the World's Largest Shirt that was on the pitch at St Mary's before the opening game and someone tracked it down to a warehouse in Nursling. It was draped over the old walls at one point down by the De Vere, but think you're right in that the Club poo-pooed the idea of it being above the crowd for safety reasons. If someone does decide to run with the idea of a big flag then they need to get the Club in at the earliest opportunity to help jump over the prerequisite hurdles.
