  1. Tis my local Chippy and Mike and his two sons are buddys of mine. They do have competition on the restaurant front from Elias' Greek place round the corner LOL. My recommendations would be: Curry House: Coriander Upmarket: Oxfords Mid market: Scozzies Thai: The King & Thai (hate Kuti's rip off place) Chinese: Charlie Chan Pub: Platform View: Banana Wharf (don't do Pitcher & Piano!!!) Chain: Pizza Express/Prezzo (not much between them) All a bit bottom end, but that's my neck of the woods
  2. I'm just not that convinced about increasing the capacity by a sizeable amount as I'm not sure we have the fanbase to fill a 40,000 ground on a regular basis (I'm sure initially for some of the big games we would, but for Wigan, Bolton, Fulham, Wolves????? I'm not even sure of "middle ranking" teams like Everton, Villa etc). With hindsight, perhaps halfway between the two (say 36,000) would have been good. And just think what a paddy we would be having now if the 24,000 "Stoneham Stadium" came off???????
  3. Are you sure Mr Grant???? I'm positive that when I went there not long after it opened that there was an Upper Tier in the Main Stand (to the left of the away fans). There was an addition to the end opposite the away fans a few years later though making it two out of four stands with an upper tier.
  4. Have you got a ticket for Satdee??????
  5. For someone who hasn't played much, Bart was going mental on the pitch at the end!!! Always difficult being number 2 keeper, but he looked really involved and was celebrating hard!!!!!
  6. Obviously very early days, but my initial gut feel would be just behind the play offs (or possibly in them). Think we will carry some momentum with us and have ended the season stongly so that bodes well. Think we need strengthening in some key areas and hopefully we can keep hold of the stars (Fonte, Lallana, Oxo etc). Not sure we'll do a Norwich as that seems a bit optimistic, but no reason why we can't give many a run for their money, consolidate in the top ten and then look to push on.
  7. Adkins has done very, very well indeed, particularly at the business end and given how hard Huddersfield have pushed us, the way he has got the team to respond has been very impressive. Well done.
  8. And rather than being remembered for his idea that intermarrying within the European royal dynasties would put an end to internecine continental battles, Prince Albert is instead associated (if incorrectly) with genital piercing!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Apart from the Kaiser who was Victorias Grandson (son of her namesake daughter), there were a few others fighting on the "other side" back then.
  10. Indeed the Battenberg and Mountbatten nonsense was fairly remote to the Royal Family at the outbreak of the Great War. Whilst the Battenbergs were outliers of the Royal Family (I think one of the Battenbergs married a grand-daughter of Victoria's), it was definitely distinct from the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family. The Mountbatten connection only became entwined with the Royal Family upon mad Philip's marriage to Liz (even then he wasn't a real Mountbatten/Battenberg, as that name came from his mother's side) and the pushiness of his Uncle (dear ole Dickie, who seems on a par with the Middleton woman), behaviour which was scorned upon by many at the time.
  11. It certainly was not. Simon Scharma would be going mental at this. You need to brush up on your history Dune.
  12. I will be on the pitch come Saturday, no doubt about it. We've got a 2 o'clock start away in the Hampshire Cricket League. (still unsure who to give my season ticket to, you never know I might even give it to Dune just to see what he looks like in the flesh!!!).
  13. Have to say that I disagree with your opening premise here, in that I don't really remember people moaning about not winning pretty or blowing teams away (apart from the odd loon, who is probably a Portsmuff fan anyway). However, I can remember many giving their own honest assessment of our performances and being open and honest in believing that some of them have been below par. This was both from an individual player's perspective and also from a team perspective. I certainly believe that for a period of time after the Oldham away game we were underperforming and nowhere near at our best (but was also more than happy to be racking up the points despite this). I accept injuries took their toll, other teams looking to park the bus at St Mary's etc played their part, but I also felt a few players were underperforming and that in a number of games our shape and set up didn't look quite right. The overwhelming majority of posters were delighted that we were picking up points from these below par performances and most recognised that at this stage of the season and in this division putting points on the board takes precedent over anything, but I don't think there is anything wrong with being critical of performances, particuarly given the squad at our disposal and having one eye on where we are going as a Club.
  14. Do you mean the line that isn't in line with the six yard box!!!!!! ******* hell Baj it starts about 1 ft out from the mower line on the Kingsland side and by the time it gets to Guly it's about 3 feet. Didn't you get taught about parallel lines (and perspectives in Technical Drawing at school)?????
  15. We considered that as well, but when he received the ball from Connoly I don't think he was offside.
  16. Interesting. I'm with Appy in that I'm so blooody pessimistic in big games like this that I always try to have a quick glance at the linesman, so it looks as though I missed it today (was still the first amongst our lot to realise it was disallowed - their keeper had to be told by one of their defenders as well!!!!!). I also sit in the Kingsland, about level with 6 yard box, and so was right in line(ish) with Lallana and Guly and just couldn't see who was offside. There was a mass of bodies in there and I couldn't see any Saints shirt closer to the goal than a defender. Will be very interested to see how wrong I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
  17. And now back to reality. What was the Wadworth furore a few years back after he had been given the boot along with Gray??? Didn't we put up a rather disparaging attack on him on the OS a bit later (was he returning with another team, or was someone just reminiscing on how bad things were under Gray and him) that then got pulled after someone realised it was a bit OTT (or after he complained?)??? Hope he hasn't got a better memory than me!!!!!!
  18. Not sure if my dreams are anything to go by, but after going 2-0 down early we will come back to win 8-5 (anyone know the odds on that). Obviously not sure of the veracity of my dream as in the first half I'm refereeing wearing UGG boots and in the second half I'm under the East terrace with black DM's on. Additionally, Tony Pulis is managing Hartlepool for the day, the game is being played at Vicarage Road and one Monkey Hanger fan is sick over Lambert as he goes to take a corner!!!!!!!! No cheese last night, just plenty of scrumpy at The Platform Tavern's Cider Festival!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I'm afraid that whilst you may have some valid points elsewhere in your response, I have to take issue with this one line. It is the responsibility of the individual with regards how they conduct themselves in classrooms (and indeed all walks of life). We should never be looking to transfer that responsibility on to others. Indeed, I believe that when we do we start to make excuses for poor behaviour and the notion of responsibility starts to blur, this can only exasparate the issue. Whilst there may be other contributory factors, including poor teachers, nothing should take away the basic tenet we are all responsible for our own choices and actions and have to suffer the sanctions of poor behaviour or enjoy the rewards of good behaviour.
  20. I think we have more than a couple of players who could play a League higher, we have 5 who their peers rate as the best in the division and as a team we are looking at being the second best team in this division (even allowing for some upheaval earlier in the season). I'd say that makes us a decent League One side, who hopefully in a couple of weeks will be a Championship side. I think people are realistic in their expectations and have finally come round to the idea of being in a lower division, with that bringing a lower standard of play and player. We know we're not going to get Champagne football week in, week out. However, given the calibre of players, the general set up, the huge wage bill and having seen us at our best I don't see anything wrong with expecting the team to be, shall we say, more consistent. For whatever reason (and injuries have played a large part), we have underperformed in a number of recent games. As you say, I accept that lower league teams may not be as consistent and graceful as those in the leagues above, but I go back to my starting point which is that we have the calibre of players that makes us slightly different to your average run of the mill third tier club.
  21. I won't be too harsh on you after some of your gracious comments, but being totally honest (and I have been quick to comment on Adkins faux pas over the season and also supportive of Brighton's long suffering supporters who have finally been given something to cheer about) I think Poyet has come across as a complete and utter fookwit in that interview. The notion that the only thing that separates us from "Dagnam" is Lambert, and all we do is play route one makes him just look completely small time. I can only assume his brother was in charge of the tannoy, his mum was making the banners and his sister was throwing the bottles. Small time, real small time and the actions of Poyet and deeds of others have made you look somewhat classless, which is sad considering the troubles you have come through and the positive position you, as a Club, find yourselves in. I thought a successful Brighton could have been a really good story given the shyte thrown at you over the years, but instead the recent antics have left me thinking you're a tad small time.
  22. errrrrrrr If Dagnam had Ricky errrrrrrrr Lambert, errrrrrr than they would be top six, no doubt. Ricky you are obviously worth 36 points, go and ask for a pay rise!!!!!!!!!!! Of all the small time comments and actions coming from Sussex over the past few weeks, then this is up there with the best. Adkins may have been a bit of a dinlo with regards some of his comments, but dear ole Gus has certainly pipped him here.
  23. Deary me Gus, deary me. You sound as small time as some of your fans. As you say winning the Third Division title is no more than a stepping stone into the Leagues above and I doubt whether many could name you the last three winners, let alone who won it ten years ago. I presume it was Norwich, S****horpe (due to the Adkins connection) and then ??? It's a sh1tty league and we are deservedly down here for being sh1tty in recent years, but in all honesty no one gives a fook and the only aim is to get out of this division by any means possible. You'd think he'd won the Premier League. Small time Gus, small time (next time take a breather and give a more considered interview after being stuffed at home).
  24. Let's just say The Saints in Millbrook was in celebratory mood. Refills were the order of the day as much went on the ceiling and around the car park!!!!!!!!!!!!
  25. In a word, NO. HTH
