  1. I'm presuming you were somewhere in the Kiingsland/Northam as the fans around there obviously knew what they were up to (along with Barnard), but the dinlo ref didn't have a clue!!!!!! I've never seen parts of the Kingsland get so animated (along with a fair dash of industrial language!!!!).
  2. Overly generous, LOL!!!! It's my new persona on here!!!! Perhaps you're right in that a decision on this probably was made pretty high up in the Club, with Cortese probably being involved. Just a shame that IMHO they have made a poor call. Your last part resonates with me, in that whilst I fully accept that Cortese appears to be driven and focussed with regards the main priority of promotion, some of the little things around the edge could be handled so much better. It shouldn't have to be an either/or situation and it should be eminently possible to manage both sides without detracting from the main priority of success on the pitch (i.e. how could a decent tribute to Richards in the programme detract from success on the pitch?). The two aren't mutually exclusive and ultimately in addition to success on the pitch, a decent spirit and sense of togetherness can only be good for the Club.
  3. Have to agree that the second goal looked good. The header from Barnard was almost straight off the training ground. But I do have to take exception about the second half being pretty decent. I'd accept it was better than the first half, but then again anything would be as our first half performance was very poor, but I would certainly not call it pretty decent!!!
  4. I have posted that I think the Club's response was poor (particularly the terrible programme tribute), so not having a pop at your stance, but could there be a case that Cortese wasn't involved in making the decision???? Obviously not sure who I think made a wrong call, but perhaps we should consider that it was someone below Cortese (and Cortese wasn't au fait with the details)????
  5. Been a bit busy, so here's my twopenneth on last night. Really chuffed with 3 points, great news that Bournemouth lost, although not much else went for us with regards other results. A win Saturday would be great, but a draw not that bad a result either. As for the game, although I think we were comfortable winners, once again we seem to be stuttering and misfiring. I don't mind how we win and even winning ugly at this stage of the season is OK with me, but my worry is that unless we step up from these poor performances then it could well be a really tough run in. Yeovil were absolute garbage (sorry any Glover fans out there) and for long periods we struggled to produce any decent football. Certainly need to up the performance over the coming weeks. As for players: As someone who was somewhat critical of Gobern recently, I have to say he looked much better last night. Harding had his boots on the wrong feet. Lallana looked as though he was the only quality player we had on the pitch. Barnard got stuck in, gave everything and was duly rewarded.
  6. I would certainly liked to have seen more of a tribute in the matchday programme. The little piece plonked in the back amidst supporters birthday dedications just didn't seem right to me. Just wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult for someone to write a nice piece in the programme or perhaps come up with a little montage on the screens if we didn't want a full blown minutes silence/applause.
  7. Have to say that I'm hoping for the same, but something has to change!!!!!!! We're certainly not firing on all cylinders, so I'm hoping that we get back in to a decent run of form just in time to finish the season off in style. At the same time, I'm also hoping that Bournemouth finally run out of puff. But I think one or both of the above have to change soon!!!!
  8. I'm not sure anyone gives a shyt how we go up (I certainly don't), but I think it is a fair comment to say that unless we turn up the quality of our performances and perhaps play with a bit more conviction, determination and belief then we might well struggle to go up (but don't let me get in the way of your snide comments).
  9. I suppose it all depends on what you deem as form, the context and what timeframe. Prior to yesterdays result if you had gone back 6 games, it was 11 pts (1.83 ppg) and if you had gone back 8 games to the period when I think we started struggling it was 12 pts (1.5 ppg). So both of those points hauls, combined with some stuttering performances had (and still has) me worried. I fully accept that now and then you have to grind out results, get lucky, have decisions go your way etc, but eventually I think you have to start playing with consistency, dominance and conviction. I think Chapel End Charlie had it right when he said: "In my view we just don't consistently play that well in all honesty and risking the wrath of the many who believe that performances don't matter as long as the results keep coming in then I'd also say that the quality of performance does actually matter because if you keep underperforming then sooner or later you are bound to drop more crucial points." I don't want Champagne football, nor do I feel the need for all of our performances to be top drawer, but I also think that the longer our stuttering performances go on, then the more times we will come a cropper (as on Tuesday).
  10. A very big win on many accounts: getting back in to the winning habit, keeping in the race with most of the others winning, clean sheet, bit of a bogey team etc etc etc. A couple of decent results on Tuesday (us winning against Yeovil) and Bournemuff losing at Exeter and we could conceivably be looking to overhaul them on Saturday!!!! Now is the time to step up the pressure on those above us, although I think Brighton are long gone, and start to dominate matches. Would like to see a bit of loan action as that bench was not inspiring though!!!!
  11. The big assumption there Minty is that you are assuming dear ole Dune is a human (although I do believe Neanderthals are included in the Homo genus).
  12. Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. Success is not final, failure is not fatal it is the courage to continue that counts. All wise words. LOL
  13. Last season (just after Xmas I think) was one of the most depressing games I saw!!!!!! In the end I was glad the fog came down and spared me watching any more (pity it didn't come down earlier). So with that in mind, I'm afraid I'm somewhat pessimistic about tomorrow and can't see anything better than a draw (matching the result earlier in the season - was Adkins here for that one??). Injury worries aren't going to help us, but you never know we might bounce back and kick someone's ar53e. Still in two minds about going (presume you can buy on the day)
  14. Oi!!!!!! I'll have you round later to programme my video recorder (yes I still have a video recorder underneath that CD/DVD thingy). PS I've just found Spotify. It is mental, you can make your own radio station (but you can't decide what ads to play) and Mini Me has given me some remote?? speakers which mean I can listen to it anywhere (although I have now found out they are not waterproof and odnt work in the shower).
  15. Blaydon Races (Newcastle) Marching on Together (Leeds) Drink up they Cider (Bristol City & maybe Yeovil)
  16. I AM OLD!!!!!!!!!!! This might as well be in Swahili!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. LOL. I must look like Trigger at times!!!!! Some of us have to work you know and don't really get on the t'internet much during the day!!!!!!!
  18. Minty, ask yourself a question. WTF are you doing trying to have a debate with Dune about something so serious???? As for it all coming down to a fight for resources, then had this fight taken place a couple of hundred years ago then we might have been well placed to come out on top!!! Now and increasingly going forward, we're a second rank country who will be sniffing around looking for the crumbs left behind by the new and emerging superpowers.
  19. On the face if it, unbeaten and 11 pts from the 15 available isn't that bad a return. However, I think that glosses over a number of very "average" performances, sandwiched between two very poor defeats. I think they will give it to Ferguson (Posh have been knocking some goals in), but I would give it to Slade at Orient who are also unbeaten and managed to hold some decent teams to a draw (Arsenal, Brighton, Bournemouth (a) & Huddersfield (a))
  20. I would be careful taking these sort of leaks as gospel and then running with them. In my experience of corporate purchasing etc, even if those at the coal face see a "charge", then the actual charge at the payment end after global discounts, retrospecitve rebates, internal costings etc can be massively different. That's if the story is true in the first place (that's not to say that IMHO I do think the MOD and a number of other Whitehall depts are somewhat profligate and not as efficient as perhaps they could be).
  21. Definitely somewhere in the middle for me. Certainly don't think we will win every game (but probably always hope we will!!!!), probably due to not believing we have any divine right to win every game or definitely go up. Similarly, I don't get all wrist slitty when we lose (at Peterborough away, we were giggling when their 4th went in as it was just so Saints!!!!). I don't have any problems having to ply our trade in the Third tier and fully accept football is a meritocracy. I just want honest performances from an honest Club. However, I do reserve the right to jump around the room/terrace/stands when we murder someone, or kick the cat/girlfriend/seat in front when we fail miserably and call it as I see it either way.
  22. Not to get in their corporate section you didn't. Granted we had book our two tables via my mates company in Ferndown, but we had no problems.
  23. What a ridiculous insinuation. The tributes on the Dean Richard's thread are restricted to one (or two in my case) replies expressing their commiserations/respect/tributes to a fine player who tragically passed away too early. No need for any other threads, no need for debate, people's thoughts are clear. On this thread and other threads connected to the match, performance and result there are a myriad of opinions, an exchange of thoughts, argument and counter argument, what ifs, buts and a whole host of other posts going back and forth. To try and suggest something is amiss is somewhat missing the point.
  24. Why ever not??? I would venture that there is an outside chance that Cortese could well be thinking what his options could be. Additonally, I struggle to see what the danger of gossiping on a football message board is. If you're too depressed (or don't want to get depressed) then give this thread a wide berth or alternatively don't take it too seriously.
  25. I don't know what the current form etc of other teams have been, but can't help thinking that other teams have been just as inconsistent as us. We've enjoyed a couple of days when results have really gone our way, so not sure we can blame it on other teams rolling on and on. At best, I think Brighton have been on a roll, but I think one of the reasons we are still in the hunt is that none of our competitors has managed to capitalise on ours and others failings.
