I regularly get emails from UPS. I've never opened the email, let alone the attachment as I haven't ordered anything that would be delivered by UPS.

We went to Lacanau Ocean in the summer school holidays so I guess August. Lovely weather with the edge taken off the heat (thankfully) by being so close to the Atlantic I guess. Three years ago we 'did' the Canal du Midi in the June half-term break and had a couple of days of awful weather. Gale force winds (blew our canal boat through 180 degrees) and driving rain. It was then changeable and we got absolutely drenched walking through the old town of Carcassonne. We did have a couple of warm days and, in spite of the weather, it's a holiday I'd do again at the drop of a chapeau!

But have the premiums been paid?

I think we went there when we visited Chateau Palmer? Strange to have an 'english' name for a chateau. We bought a very expensive bottle there to be opened 15 years later. We opened it when my daughter graduated and it was FOUL

I'd be delighted if the Socialists got in. In the meantime I'll be content if Labour win again.

Whilst I take on board your points about the wartime cabinet, SolentStars I just don't think the main parties would work together in normal circumstances. Their basic tenets mean that they do have conflicting views on what's best for the country, in spite of the popular held belief that they are all the same. If they were all so similar, Johnny and I wouldn't be having nightly 'debates' now would we?

I understood this dispute was about changes to working practices that the management tried to impose on the workforce. In fact I understand that the union's members offered to take pay cuts in order to avoid some of their fellow workers being made redundant. A successful business needs a fair employer and a contented workforce. Earlier someone cited John Lewis as prime example of how a beneficial employer gains so much from the respect it affords its workforce. A harsh employer will have a high staff turnover and a discontented workforce, neither of which is condusive to success in the long term.

I don't get any of these calls. I do have TPS but also we're ex-directory. Maybe that helps too?

But, with respect, you didn't answer my question. I don't 'opt in' either when I buy products from large companies who contribute to the Conservative party. I also don't have the option of opting out by saying to these companies 'I'll pay you 1% less because I don't want to contribute to your donation fund'. Sauce for the goose and all that

I've been there. As well as the great beach (with great surf if you're into that) there is also a huge lake inland. We stayed in a holiday chalet about 5 mins cycle ride from the beach and about 15 minutes from the lake. You have to cycle through pine forests and sand dunes to get to the lake (past a quad bike place). There are catamarans for hire at the lake as well as a good number of lakeside cafes. When we went they didn't appear to have had that many British visitors so we all had to rely on our GCE French to get by.
