  1. Wet spam looking at their fan boy for another SFC player?? Still’s brilliant response to West Ham move for second Saints star West Ham are hoping Fernandes can help turn the club’s season around after a dismal start. Southampton have been using the £41m coming on from the Hammers to make additions for their push to return to the Premier League. Still has been touted as a future West Ham manager. Majority owner David Sullivan has previously stated ‘never say never’ about Still becoming Hammers boss one day, once he has more experience. One thing is for certain, the 32-year-old is ensuring he has good relations with the West Ham hierarchy. Now Still has issued a brilliant response to a West Ham move for a second Southampton star. Nayef Aguerd has refused to play for West Ham at Nottingham Forest as he tries to force a move to Marseille. Still said about West Ham interest in Harwood-Bellis But he made it clear he doesn’t expect Harwood-Bellis to be sold as things stand and sent a playful warning to his beloved Hammers. Although West Ham will note he said something similar about Fernandes at the start of that particular saga. “They want another one of our players?!” Still said. “I don’t think Taylor was ever for sale, to be honest. “I love West Ham, but stay off him!” Harwood-Bellis came through at Man City before being sold to Southampton for £15m. The 23-year-old centre-back has been linked with a move to east London for some time. But it seems unlikely Still is willing to let him go at this late stage of the window, making a West Ham move for Cresswell more likely.
  2. https://www.hammers.news/news/saints-boss-will-still-shows-he-is-proper-west-ham-with-key-role-in-covert-mateus-fernandes-deal/ Did not know Will is Wet spam. fan, interesting read, might explaing Matty strange decision to go there
  3. Middlesbrough and West Brom to battle for Ben Brereton Diaz. It has been reported in the Yorkshire Post, taking their info from SportsBoom, that Sheffield United, West Brom and Middlesbrough are set to battle for the signature of Ben Brereton Diaz. The Chilean international demonstrated while he was at Blackburn Rovers that he was a striker who could lead the line and contribute heavily in clubs looking to compete for the play-offs. Brereton Diaz spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United, and this may make them favourites for his signature, as it is expected Tyrese Campbell will leave the club, meaning they need attacking reinforcements. While at Blackburn, Brereton Diaz scored 47 goals in 176 appearances; since then, he has only scored 10 goals across 68 matches for Villarreal, Southampton and Sheffield United.
  4. https://www.hammers.news/transfer-news/mateus-fernandes-hands-west-ham-monumental-boost-by-taking-action-after-saints-snub/ Looks like Matty wants out 😭 I hope it isnt true, with the long contract we have a good position to keep or sell on our terms.
  5. Shhhhhh it a secret 🤫 https://www.givemesport.com/southampton-submit-offer-to-sign-spertsyan/ Will speaking of THB and Charlie T coming back. https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/news/64576/
  6. Well done Manning, he changed the game! Was putting in great crosses as soon as he got on, nice whip and speed. When he stepped up to the free kick, i was already clapping in cellebaration( and hope) before it went in😅!! Got us that tying goal we were pressing for. The assist for the winner was just icing on the cake. Shout out to cap Jack for some great last min tackles and having the desire to get on that cross. He bleeds SFC. A rejunvinated Baz who is determined to show the naysayers are wrong, is a good thing, long may it last. Great team win, stats showed we dominated, but a nail bitting finish was the reality. COYS
  7. At that price I would perfer Romulo from our multi club system, otherwise what is the point. Rb lip has not completed deal....always hoped we could get him after some big sales. Would show real intent. Being relegated did not help!!
  8. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11700/13406817/the-will-still-philosophy-southampton-boss-on-entertainment-proactivity-the-seven-minute-rule Love what he coaches: Still explained his playing philosophy and how he motivates his players. "I've always thought of it this way: I hate watching boring games of football. I don't want to go to a stadium or sit down to watch a match on TV and think, 'I don't want to watch this'. I want to see something engaging. RM are u listening? "The main thing is to enjoy it. But if I had to describe [my teams] in one word, the best one I've found is proactive. One of my key phrases is 'defensive effort is non-negotiable' "How long do we show this to players? Seven minutes. That's about the maximum for their attention span. "Honestly, I'd bore myself going longer.🤣😂
  9. With Tyler training on his own, and big clubs coming in for him, it only a matter of time before he is sold for our asking price. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/champions-league-duo-join-race-for-40m-southampton-player/
  10. Whats us up with Flynn? the manager has said Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who set Southampton back £20m as per BBC Sport, is expected to be sidelined for 10 days, so he will miss out against Wrexham. Still said: “I think Taylor (Harwood-Bellis) has probably got another 10 days to go. He’s only just joined in training in the latter stages of this week. Meanwhile, Flynn Downes ‘hasn’t trained’, while Will Smallbone and Ben Brereton Diaz also have problems. Still added: “Flynn hasn’t trained with us yet, so we’ll try and work it out. But like I said, we’ve got a few young players in there that did well today. “Will Smallbone is still struggling with his arm, which he struggled with last week as well, which is why he didn’t play last week or today. “Bez (Brereton Diaz) has locked his hips. He’s got sore groins and sore hips. We don’t want to force people into playing or anything.” .......................................... Will mentioning they are looking for a new keeper After the departure of Aaron Ramsdale, Saints wave been considering whether they need to add to the goalkeeping department, although Will Still maintains that the number 1 spot is Gavin Bazunu's to lose. One dilemma for Will Still was sorted late last week when Aaron Ramsdale joined Newcastle United on a season long loan, that in some respects was a relief for the new Saints manager, as it was one area of his team where it was clear who was staying and going. If Ramsdale had still been at St Mary's this coming weekend Still would have had a decision to make and with 3 weeks left in the window it was a big one, did he play the best keeper, that was undoubtably Ramsdale and then risk see him go in the following 3 weeks before the window shut and alienate Gavin Bazunu who was likely to stay. Both Ramsdale and Bazunu remained professional in the way they both handled the situation and when the former joined Newcastle, Bazunu responded on Saturday against Brighton with a faultless performance that saw him make several top saves that meant that his team were still in the game to be able to fight back and eek out a 2-2 draw. Speaking to The Daily Echo after the Brighton game Will Still confirmed that he is in control of the situation and he along with the goalkeeping coach Ruben Martinez are considering their options. "I think Gavin's done really well. I think he played really well last week out in Spain. "He's done well today (Saturday). He's good, and I think as long as he's been as good as he is, he'll play. The best players will play. "I think I've always said that. We need to check for numbers. Do we get an extra one in? I think we'll work that out over the course of the next few weeks. "Ruben (Martinez, goalkeeper coach) knows what he's doing. It's just balancing out and identifying what we can get and when we can get it and how it all works. We'll wait and see." One consideration must be to bring in a potential first choice keeper, someone who can push Bazunu for the number 1 spot, in truth Alex McCarthy at 35 will do a job but he isn't going to play a full season, truth is he never has, in 9 seasons at the club he has played just 134 League games, at times he has had extended runs in the side and been considered the number 1, but he has never managed a full season in that position. He has been a very good back up keeper, a player who can put in a reasonable number of good games in the team, but not 38 -46 in a season. So I think Still knows that he is short in this department and with Gavin Bazunu having suffered injury issues in the past two seasons and indeed seen both of those seasons ended prematurely through injury, there must be a question mark over his ability to stay fit. Therefore I think Will Still is playing his cards close to his chest, he must know it would be folly to go past the transfer window deadline without adding to his goalkeeping squad, essentially after Bazunu & McCarthy he only has 17 year old Dylan Moody and talented as he may be, he is not ready for the physicality of the Championship. So although Gavin Bazunu will deservedly start as the number 1 keeper, Still must bring in another shot stopper, the only question is how good that man is, I would suspect that we will look at a good experienced at Championship level keeper out of contract, someone like Joe Lumley when we signed him two years ago. One option could have been former Southampton keeper Angus Gunn, but he is on the verge of a move from Norwich to join Nottingham Forest. But one man who may well truly be on the radar is Australian International Mathew Ryan who has recently left RC Lens after his contract ended, we all know who also left Lens during the summer, Will Still the man who signed him back in the January transfer window. Ryan at 33 has extensive top flight experience, he has played for Brugge & Genk in the Belgian Pro League, Valencia & Real Sociedad in Spain, AZ Alkmaar in Holland and a short spell in Denmark. He also had 3 seasons as Brighton number 1 before losing his place in the 4th, playing 121 games in the Premier League in the process, also adding another 3 on loan at Arsenal, not to mention 100 caps for his country. Now a free agent, you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to make a case that he might well be joining Southampton, he has the track record and ability to step into the breach should Gavin Bazunu suffer either another injury or drop in form. He would be the ideal man on all counts not least that he would not cost a penny. And a rumor for ABK with our favorite (shite) club to negotiate with, Trabzonspor, we want 10m, Trabz offering 4m.........😵‍💫
  11. Good summary of who and what we are up against this season. Eleven managerial changes in the Championship Bristol City - Gerhard Struber replaced Liam Manning Hull - Sergej Jakirovic replaced Ruben Selles Leicester - Marti Cifuentes replaced Ruud van Nistelrooy Middlesbrough - Rob Edwards replaced Michael Carrick Norwich - Liam Manning replaced Johannes Hoff Thorup QPR - Julien Stephan replaced Marti Cifuentes Sheffield Wednesday - Henrik Pedersen replaced Danny Rohl Sheffield United - Ruben Selles replaced Chris Wilder Southampton - Will Still replaced Ivan Juric Watford - Paulo Pezzolano replaced Tom Cleverley West Brom - Ryan Mason replaced Tony Mowbray Ahead of the start of the 2025/26 season, Sky Sports takes a look at what's new in the Sky Bet Championship and the aims of every club. Birmingham Who's the manager? Chris Davies Where did they finish last season? 1st in Sky Bet League One What's new? Other than being the latest club to release a behind-the-scenes documentary series, Birmingham have picked up eye-catching wins against Sevilla and Nottingham Forest over pre-season and shelled out £10m to sign former Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi from Rennes. What's the aim this season? After a one-season stay in League One, the Blues are aiming for a similar short stay in the Championship with hopes of promotion to the Premier League in the near future. They are among the bookmakers' favourites to secure back-to-back promotions in 2025/26. Blackburn Who's the manager? Valerien Ismael Where did they finish last season? 7th What's new? Blackburn come into this season on the back of a near-perfect pre-season, having beaten Accrington, Everton, the Qatar national team and Elche, before rounding off with a 3-1 loss at NEC Nijmegen. They have also reportedly spent just under £4m on strengthening the squad to go again. What's the aim this season? Since relegation from the Premier League 13 years ago, Rovers have never once finished in the Championship play-offs. They have finished ninth once, eighth twice and seventh twice. One of those seventh-place finishes came last term, when just two points kept them out of the top six. Getting over that line has been their biggest challenge, and one they must now conquer. Bristol City Who's the manager? Gerhard Struber Where did they finish last season? 6th What's new? Former Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber has come in to replace Liam Manning as head coach, there are several new faces - including Adam Randell and Emil Riis - and, for the first time since 2021, Nahki Wells will not start the season at Ashton Gate, having moved on to Luton. What's the aim this season? To reach the play-offs - and compete when they get there. The Robins finally made the breakthrough to the top six last term after nine prior fruitless attempts, but when they got there, they were brushed aside by Sheffield United, who won 6-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals. Charlton Who's the manager? Nathan Jones Where did they finish last season? 4th in League One, promoted via play-offs What's new? Manager Nathan Jones signed a new five-year deal in June after speculation linking him with the Cardiff job. The club backed him with nine new signings for Charlton's first season in the second tier since 2019/20 - and some really solid ones at that, including last season's League One Golden Boot winner Charlie Kelman. What's the aim this season? As with any promoted side, the number one aim is survival first and foremost - and the Addicks' last two second-tier campaigns have ended in relegation. They are among the favourites to go back down as a result, but their squad certainly looks capable of more. Coventry Who's the manager? Frank Lampard Where did they finish last season? 5th What's new? It has been relatively quiet at the Coventry Building Society Arena this summer. Frank Lampard is still at the helm and there hasn't been much notable movement in the transfer window. The club did not even receive a windfall from former frontman Viktor Gyokeres' move from Sporting to Arsenal after the sell-on clause was previously sold. What's the aim this season?A place in the play-offs - or better - has to be the aim. The Sky Blues reached the final in 2022/23 and the semi-finals in 2024/25. They are among the favourites for the title at present, but also just promotion in general, so Lampard will be doing everything he can to avoid the dreaded hangover. Derby Who's the manager? John Eustace Where did they finish last season? 19th What's new? Derby have signalled their intent for the new season - their second back in the Championship - with a significant squad overhaul. The business they have done, in every area of the pitch, has been shrewd;Rhian Brewster came in for free, for example. What's the aim this season? To build on the momentum generated at the end of last. John Eustace's side took 21 of the 33 points on offer from the last 11 games to finish one point above the drop zone. They have not finished above 19th since 2019/20 and could steer clear if they carry on in that fashion. Hull Who's the manager? Sergej Jakirovic Where did they finish last season? 21st What's new? Ruben Selles was dismissed just five months into a two-and-a-half-year contract after keeping Hull in the Championship, so, for the fourth straight season, a different man will be in charge for the first game This time, it's former Bosnia and Herzegovina international Sergej Jakirovic, assisted by Dean Holden. The headline signing has been that of Colombian central midfielder Gustavo Puerta from Bayer Leverkusen. What's the aim this season? Given they survived at Luton's expense on goal difference alone, the first aim for the Tigers is to climb themselves away from the relegation zone much earlier than the final day. Though their recruitment suggests they are aiming higher, they are currently among the favourites to go down. Ipswich Who's the manager? Kieran McKenna Where did they finish last season? 19th in the Premier League What's new? Liam Delap joined Chelsea for £30m after a stellar first full Premier League season and expected replacement George Hirst has signed a new four-year contract. Club captain Sam Morsy departed for Kuwait SC, while Ashley Young and David Button - with a combined age of 76 - have joined to provide valuable experience. What's the aim this season? Ipswich are favourites for the title, so automatic promotion is a must. The bulk of a squad that did not disgrace itself in the Premier League, despite relegation, remains and there is money to reinvest before the transfer window closes. Kieran McKenna will be keen to reignite the level of momentum that helped the club to back-to-back promotions from League One. Leicester Who's the manager? Marti Cifuentes Where did they finish last season? 18th in the Premier League What's new? A sizeable gap in the squad - for the first time since 2011/12 - left by Jamie Vardy, whose contract expired in the summer. And a new head coach, too. Marti Cifuentes joined the Foxes as Ruud van Nistelrooy's replacement in July after a period of gardening leave from his previous job at QPR. What's the aim this season? Bouncing back to the Premier League at the first time of asking is the dream for any relegated side, of course, and Leicester have the quality to mount a decent challenge. But the threat of punishment relating to charges brought by the Premier League over alleged breaches of financial rules during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons could affect those hopes. If that's the case, retaining their Championship status will be their most important aim. The video you are trying to watch cannot be viewed from your current country or loMiddlesbroughWho's the manager? Rob Edwards Where did they finish last season? 10th What's new? In Michael Carrick's last two full seasons in charge, Middlesbrough finished four points off the play-offs on both occasions, which led to his sacking in June. Rob Edwards, who took Luton up to the Premier League in 2022/23, has stepped in to replace him. Jonny Howson has left after eight years at the Riverside. What's the aim this season? To get over the line and finish in the play-offs. Boro are about to begin their ninth straight season in the Championship - their longest run in the second tier since the 12 between 1954/55 and 1965/66. In that time, they have reached the play-offs only twice - and on both occasions, they have been beaten in the semi-finals. Millwall Who's the manager? Alex Neil Where did they finish last season? 8th What's new? Alex Neil has been refreshing his squad ahead of his first full season at The Den. George Honeyman, George Saville, Murray Wallace, Shaun Hutchinson and Duncan Watmore - with over 800 appearances for the club in the league alone between them - have departed, along with Zian Flemming, whose loan to Burnley became permanent. A mix of youth and experience has been brought in, including 21-year-old left-back Zak Sturge and 32-year-old midfielder Massimo Luongo. What's the aim this season? In eight seasons since promotion from League One, Millwall have finished eighth on four occasions. Last season, they missed out on a play-off place by just two points, so the natural next step is to get one locked down. The last time they did that was in 2001/02, when they lost 2-1 to eventual winners Birmingham in the semi-finals. Norwich Who's the manager? Liam Manning Where did they finish last season? 13th What's new? A new head coach, for starters. Liam Manning left Bristol City for his hometown club in June and signed a four-year deal to succeed Johannes Hoff Thorup. Wingers Jonathan Rowe and Borja Sainz were sold to Marseille and Porto respectively, while the Canaries have reinvested well, most notably with the signing of Denmark international striker Mathias Kvistgaarden from Brondby. What's the aim this season? To reach the play-offs at a minimum. Norwich won the Championship in 2018/19 and 2020/21, but in the three seasons since relegation, they have finished 13th twice. The totals of 14 wins and 57 points last term were their lowest in the division since they dropped into League One at the end of 2008/09. Oxford Who's the manager? Gary Rowett Where did they finish last season? 17th What's new? Not a huge amount. Gary Rowett is still manager, and business in terms of incomings and outgoings has been minimal before the start of the season. What's the aim this season? Further consolidation. Last season was their first campaign back in the Championship in the 21st century and staying up was a huge success. They would love to build on their 17th-placed finish, but anything 21st or above will do. Portsmouth Who's the manager? John Mousinho Where did they finish last season? 16th What's new? John Swift. The boy born in Portsmouth has returned to club of his home ciy, joining on a free transfer after being released by West Brom. Still just 30, he is a top Championship performer on his day and could prove to be a real coup. What's the aim this season? To start better than they did last campaign to make things a little easier for themselves. It took 10 games for Pompey to register their first win last season on their return to the Championship meaning they languished in the relegation zone for far too long. A kinder fixture list this time around should help them try and kick on to finish higher than 16th. Preston Who's the manager? Paul Heckingbottom Where did they finish last season? 20th What's new? A brilliant new sponsor with a local link. The viral internet sensation, and hometown heroes, SpudBros will feature on the front of the Preston North End shirts this season. All eyes are being kept open for a potential potato-shaped mascot at Deepdale. What's the aim this season? To not crash as badly as they did at the back end of last season. Preston, somehow, found themselves in a final-day relegation battle from absolutely nowhere. 20th was their worst finish in their decade in the Championship, and they need to improve. QPR Who's the manager? Julien Stephan Where did they finish last season? 15th What's new? Julien Stephan is an intriguing managerial appointment to replace Marti Cifuentes. The Frenchman has managed in Ligue 1 and led Rennes to their first trophy in nearly half a century in 2019, as they beat PSG in the final of the Coupe de France. They have also recruited three of the biggest talents from League One last season, with winger Kwame Poku (Peterborough), centre-back Amadou Mbengue (Reading) and striker Rumarn Burrell (Burton) all joining. What's the aim this season? Play-offs, anyone? It is going to be competitive in the Championship this season, but QPR haven't even really been close to the top six since they were relegated 10 years ago. It is about time. Sheffield United Who's the manager? Ruben Selles Where did they finish last season? 3rd What's new? A new manager at the helm. Some were surprised to see Chris Wilder go, others were equally surprised to see him replaced by Ruben Selles, who had been sacked by Hull City just a few weeks earlier. There are big shoes to fill at a club that got more than 90 points last season, and were leading a play-off final and on the way back to the Premier League with 20 minutes to go in May.The video you are trying to watch cannot be viewed from your current country or location Newly appointed Blades boss Ruben Selles says he intends to keep star midfielder Gustavo Hamer ahead of the Championship season. What's the aim this season? Promotion. Pure and simple. They finished third last season, and anything other than a return to the Premier League will be deemed a failure. Sheffield Wednesday Who's the manager? Henrik Pedersen Where did they finish last season? 12th What's new? Where do you want to start? It has been a car crash of a summer at Sheffield Wednesday and the club is on the rocks. Covered far better here than we could justify in just a paragraph. There is also a new manager at the helm in Henrik Pedersen to replace the popular Danny Rohl. It's his first job in England after years in Germany and Denmark. What's the aim this season? Survival. In the league and as a club. It really is that desperate. The fans deserve better. Southampton Who's the manager? Will Still Where did they finish last season? 20th in the Premier League What's new? Another new manager, of course. Will Still, a familiar name with a fascinating story manages in England for the first time as he aims to steer Southampton back into the Premier League after their disastrous campaign in the top flight. Still just 32-years-old, Still is by far the youngest manager in the Championship. What's the aim this season? Automatic promotion. Like all the other relegated clubs, it is a case of immediately trying to bounce back. Last time, in 2024, Russell Martin took them through the play-offs. Still will be hoping to make things more straightforward. Stoke Who's the manager? Mark Robins Where did they finish last season? 18th What's new? Young striker Divin Mubama, on loan from Manchester City, should provide some intrigue for Stoke City, to see if he can fulfil the potential he initially showed at West Ham. Speaking of the Hammers, Aaron Cresswell has joined the Potters this season and the 35-year-old should provide vital experience for Mark Robins and his side. What's the aim this season? Just something to excite the Stoke fans. In their seven years since relegation from the Premier League they have finished between 14th and 18th. A club of their size must be doing better and pushing much closer to the top six. Swansea Who's the manager? Alan Sheehan Where did they finish last season? 11th What's new? Snoop Dogg, anyone? There have been some left-field investors in the EFL in recent years, this might be the wildest one. The music legend joined Luka Modric in becoming a part owner of Swansea City over the summer. We can barely wait to see him at the Swansea.com. What's the aim this season? The last four seasons have been pretty underwhelming for Swansea, with four mid-table finishes following on from their play-off final defeat in 2021. Improvement is needed, and Alan Sheehan - who finished the campaign well after replacing Luke Williams in February - will hope to provide it. Watford Who's the manager? Paulo Pezzolano Where did they finish last season? 14th What's new? Watford have a new manager! Not a huge surprise to anyone, really. Paulo Pezzolano is at the helm, with his most recent role coming at Valladolid in Spain, where he led them to promotion to La Liga in 2024. What's the aim this season? Tom Cleverley was dismissed at the end of last season for their failure to make the play-offs. Their form in the second half of the campaign was pretty dismal, really. Better is needed. West Brom Who's the manager? Ryan Mason Where did they finish last season? 9th What's new? Ryan Mason has finally moved on from Tottenham and will take his first head coach role in charge at West Brom. Although he's just 34, he has plenty of experience after and enjoyed two interim spells at Spurs. What's the aim this season? It has to be play-offs, at least. Top six will always be the aiming for West Brom, who are into a fifth season out of the Premier League. Wrexham Who's the manager? Phil Parkinson Where did they finish last season? 2nd in League One What's new? New faces, everywhere. And still you would expect more to come. Championship experience has already been added with the likes of Josh Windass, Lewis O'Brien, Ryan Hardie and Conor Coady. The history-makers mean business. What's the aim this season? This is not a normal newly-promoted club. This is also a club on the back of a third-consecutive promotion and they have come to play.
  12. Shooting drills? Waz that? RM would have none of that shit giving up possesion! All done at high intensity, good to see.
  13. Southampton have made an approach to sign FC Metz striker Idrissa Gueye with an £18m price tag set, as per Alan Nixon. https://the72.co.uk/2025/07/22/southampton-approach-sign-fc-metz-idrissa-gueye/#google_vignette
  14. One of the players to have emerged favourably out of Still's attention to fitness is Shea Charles. Charles has been given licence to get forward and support attacks in his new role for the team. Instead of just being in the team to break up the opposition's play as a holding midfielder, the Northern Irish international is being transformed into a box-to-box midfielder under Still. Still has clearly worked on adding numbers to the 'chances created' cloumn next to Charles' name on Transfermarkt.com or whatever stats app you choose to refer to. Already, we have seen an impact. At Eastleigh, after receiving clear instruction from the manager, started to get forward more. His tumble in the box led to a converted penalty. On Friday, against Valenciennes, a supposedly fatigued Charles made a gut-busting burst forward to assist a goal for Archer. Soon after, he was leaping highest to clear a dangerous near-post corner. This new and improved Shea Charles is a beast of a player. Alongside Flynn Downes and one hopes, Mateus Fernandes, Southampton will be unplayable. There is not a better midfield in the Championship than that one. Cameron Archer and Joshua Quarshie are two others who are having an encouraging pre-season. Archer has netted in each of the pre-season friendlies and is staking his claim for a place in Still's first eleven.
  15. This is the reason for Brugge interest. "Southampton owned player was the best performer for Anderlecht against Club Brugge." Anderlecht fans also thought he was one of their best players when not injured. Here's how Southampton's loaned-out players are getting on this season... Shea Charles Northern Ireland international Shea Charles had a mixed year after joining Saints in a big-money move from Manchester City. Signed for the future more than the immediate, the now 21 year old impressed in his first few games before eventually losing his place upon Flynn Downes' arrival. Southampton further strengthened their midfield options this summer, seeing Charles slip further down the pecking order, making a loan move sensible. Charles chose to join Sheffield Wednesday, managed by former Saints assistant Danny Rohl. The move saw him reunited with his younger brother Pierce. Playing in midfield, Charles has quickly won the hearts of Owls fans and has regularly been praised by his teammates and Rohl. With over 1,000 minutes under his belt already, he is reaping the benefits of regular game time. He has scored his first senior goal and is regularly winning player of the match awards. "He's learning - and this is why it will be so important for him," Martin told the Daily Echo when asked about Charles' loan earlier this season. "Rather than being in and around the first team as an option - because the Premier League is such a big jump - he's playing big games. He's got to keep going and keep growing." Shea Charles has impressed in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday (Image: Bradley Collyer/PA) Sam Edozie Martin recently reiterated that Sam Edozie remains a part of the "bigger picture" at Saints following his impressive start to life in Belgium. Edozie was close to joining Rangers on loan on deadline day before the Scottish giants pulled out of the deal late on. Luckily for the 21 year old, Anderlecht were still able to approach Saints for a deal after the English window had closed. As a result, Edozie, much like Charles, is playing consistent football rather than hovering around Southampton's bloated squad as a potential option. The winger has already scored twice and laid on two assists for Anderlecht - including a goal in the Europa League against Ludogorets. Saints staff have made regular trips to Brussels for face-to-face contact with Edozie in order to monitor his progress. Dom Ballard Academy forward Dom Ballard had a difficult 2023/24 season. He joined Rubén Sellés' Reading on loan for a taste of senior football before suffering a season-ending injury. Ballard had looked good for the Royles but spent most of the season at Staplewood recovering from a patella injury. The England youth international returned to fitness in time for pre-season and eventually secured another League One loan, joining Blackpool. Signed by Neil Critchley, Ballard is now managed by former Premier League boss Steve Bruce. He has also had to deal with more injury concerns. The 19 year old appeared set for time on the sidelines with a shoulder injury. Surgery was considered but deemed unneeded and Ballard has since returned to action. He has only scored once in 10 games for Blackpool, who have a wealth of forward options but are struggling towards the bottom of League One. Dom Ballard is still playing despite previous concerns a shoulder injury would require surgery (Image: PA) Cam Bragg Midfielder Cam Bragg made his senior debut for Saints last season when he entered in the final stages of their 4-0 FA Cup win over Walsall. Martin was impressed by what he saw and admitted he really likes Bragg "as a young man and as a footballer". The 19 year old captained the under-21s last season and was rewarded with a one-year contract extension before he joined League One Crawley Town on loan. League minutes have been difficult to come by for Bragg. He's played just 216 minutes in the league, his action largely limited to various cup competitions. Cam Bragg signed a new deal at Saints this summer (Image: Southampton FC) Lewis Payne Full-back Lewis Payne is no stranger to spending time away from Southampton on loan. He joined Cheltenham Town this summer, his third loan club. The 20 year old spent last season in South Wales with Newport County and helped them beat Eastleigh, another of his former clubs, en route to an epic FA Cup tie with Manchester United. Payne has featured in 10 of Cheltenham's 15 games so far this season as they sit six points off the play-offs but also seven points off the drop zone. Lewis Payne spent last season on loan at Newport County Nico Lawrence Defender Nico Lawrence is another Saints youngster who has had to deal with injury problems during his young career. His loan spell at Colchester United was cut short by a serious injury last season and he has had to contend with fitness issues at MK Dons this year too. He missed 10 straight games after making his debut against Bradford in August and only played twice since. Lawrence joined MK Dons after a conversation with Martin, who managed the League Two side. Both parties felt playing under Mike Williamson, Martin's close friend, would be optimal for his development. Williamson has since departed Stadium MK and has been replaced by Scott Lindsey, who started the season with fellow League One outfit Crawley Town. Zach Awe Former Arsenal defender Zach Awe is an imposing figure. Standing at six-foot five-inches, you would be forgiven for thinking his game is built on size and power. However, Awe is a ball-playing centre-back, something which his loan at Accrington Stanley is allowing him to demonstrate. The 20 year old scored his first Accrington goal earlier this month in a 3-0 win over Chesterfield Town. He drove at the opposition defence before playing a neat one-two and rounding off the move with a tidy finish. His boss John Doolan heaped praise on him after the game: “Zach Awe is outstanding, he really is. We knew what we were bringing to the club and that (his goal) shows it. “He’s getting bigger, better, he’s physically stronger, he sees the game now. He was always technically good." Ollie Wright Goalkeeper Ollie Wright impressed Southampton bosses in the short time he spent travelling with the team following Gavin Bazunu's injury. The 22 year old was their third goalkeeper at Wembley for the play-off final, playing stand-in behind Alex McCarthy and Joe Lumley. After a stellar end to the 2023/24 campaign with Worthing in the National League South, which nearly ended with a promotion to the National League, Wright got his move to the fifth tier. Wright has kept seven clean sheets in 17 National League games for Yeovil. Only York City (12) and Forest Green Rovers (14) have conceded more goals than Yeovil (15) so far this season. "The fanbase is brilliant here at Yeovil," Wright said of his time at Huish Park. "I can tell the standard is so much quicker in the National League. "You can't afford to make mistakes because goals will go in. It's been a big jump, but I feel like I've settled in nicely. I need to stay a steady seven out of 10." Kuryu Matsuki Japanese youth captain Kuryu Matsuki's departure from FC Tokyo was met with an emotional response from supporters. Upon joining Saints, the 21 year old was immediately loaned out to Sport Republic sister club Goztepe in the Turkish Super Lig. The midfielder recently scored his first goal in European football. He fired in late on to help them win 2-0 over Konyaspor. Back in the summer, Martin revealed the plan for Matuki while speaking to the Daily Echo: “We will see how he does at Goztepe. "We spoke to him a good few weeks ago when we got sent the clips. The ownership group are really keen on having some players they can develop within the group with the aim of coming back to Southampton and playing for us. "Stanimir (Stoilov, Goztepe manager) and Ivan (Mance, Goztepe sporting director) have a good record of developing young players. We will have to wait and see how he does.” Juan Another who joined Goztepe was Brazilian forward Juan. Southampton had initially agreed a deal for him to join in January before securing his services in the summer. The 22 year old former Sao Paulo man has done well in Turkey, scoring twice and providing four assists, but his future at Saints is unclear. Daouda Traoré The final player signed in the summer and spending this season at another one of Sport Republic's clubs is Daouda Traoré. French youth international Traoré is viewed as an exciting prospect at Saints and by those in France. He had already made his Ligue 1 debut before arriving on the south coast and is spending this season at Valenciennes. He has made nine league appearances for the club and played a further two games in the Coupe de France. i wonder how our young loan players made out over the full season. Will any be ready to play for use in the championship? We know Shea and Ronnie won POTY for thier loans Recent update on Sam. The Saints, after returning to the Premier League, let the winger join Anderlecht on loan in September. This move has worked out for the Southampton owned player as he’s scored four goals and registered six assists from 32 games. Two different injuries forced him to spend over 50 days on the sidelines this season. Edozie played the full 90 minutes in the final and assisted Luis Vázquez’s late goal. The newspaper states the Southampton owned player was the best performer for Anderlecht against Club Brugge. good site to see who we have in the squad, in and out. https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/teams/8466/transfers/southampton

  19. Everything we can see from Still's first Southampton session Southampton manager Will Still talks to his players during a pre-season training session in London (Image: Matt Watson / Southampton FC) SAINTS have started pre-season with an intense training camp in London, orchestrated by new manager Will Still and his staff. The players have been taken to a Thames-side resort in Teddington, where they have been put through their paces in the summer heat. Saints have released a full gallery of pictures and some social media clips of the action, showing Still's first sessions with his new squad. Here is what we have learned from reviewing them all... Saints started their social media video of day one of pre-season with a clip of Still introducing two new faces to the rest of the squad. Kuryu Matsuki, 22, - technically not a new signing but just returning from a loan at Goztepe - and Joshua Quarshie, 20, have joined the team. Still, rather softly spoken, introduced Matsuki as a "Japanese, left-footed player," and commanded a round of applause for "Josh, from Germany". Matsuki is set to be assessed during pre-season and could head out on loan again if that is deemed best for his development. Quarshie will stay. Still will be hoping to introduce another new player soon, as Saints are in negotiations with FC Koln over the transfer of Damion Downs, 20. "Possession drills, a bit of running, everything... yes?" That is what Still introduced to his players for the first session to "get back into it," as temperatures exceeded 30 degrees in the London sun. Cameron Archer and Nathan Wood - at least temporarily - led their respective groups as Saints performed a warm-up run around the 4G pitches. The Saints squad could be heard being put through their paces by staff with timed runs before finally getting the balls out for a little touch. Dribbling drills preceded possession drills, including rondos, with Still watching on a one-knee crouched position on the side of the pitch. Assistant manager Paul Trollope can be heard commanding the group as Still observes, potentially offering some insight into that relationship. It is Still's turn to speak when introducing a new drill, detailing that the "key thing" is to "react when you lose the ball, get on it and chase". Still then takes a more active role overseeing the possession and reaction drill, encouraging intensity in his players as they practice. Forgotten faces play central role There is a significant number of players who were deemed surplus to requirements last season who are now potentially back in the fold. Ben Brereton Diaz, Adam Armstrong and Sam Edozie have all returned from loan and feature centrally in the social posts made by Saints. There is no guarantee that all three are still at the club by September, but it appears they will be given a fresh chance to stake a claim under Still. Ryan Fraser and Charlie Taylor, who both remained at Saints last season but were largely sidelined by their managers, also feature heavily in the clips. Both have significant Championship experience, either promoted with Saints or Burnley in the last few years, and have one year left on their deals. Shea Charles is also part of the group, although he is not a forgotten face. His loan at Sheffield Wednesday was deliberate preparation for this. Injured players involved Taylor Harwood-Bellis just missed England's successful defence of the Under-21 European Championship with an ankle injury. He has not been pictured taking part in any arduous training so far but he was present, captured sitting on the sidelines in the searing heat. There was no boot on his ankle or any obvious signs that he had surgery around six weeks ago, which is a positive, but he is not involved. Ankle surgery can keep footballers out for around 12 weeks, but Saints have not given a formal update on the defender's recovery as of yet. The former Young Lions captain Harwood-Bellis was the subject of a reported transfer bid from FC Porto last week, although this is not confirmed. Meanwhile, Gavin Bazunu, who came back to Saints early from his loan at Standard Liege, appears to be fully recovered and involved. Young players who have been called up Exciting forward Jay Robinson is now a fully fledged senior player but he has been joined by a number of under-21 players in training this week. The academy side are said to be based nearby, ensuring seamless rotation and assessment of the young players when Still requires. Dom Ballard and Joachim Kayi Sanda will want to play a role in the first team this campaign and have both been captured with the group. In addition to those two, striker Baylee Dipepa and midfielders Moses Sesay and Romeo Akachukwu have also been pictured training at the camp. Young goalkeepers Ollie Wright and Dylan Moody are also getting some senior experience with new goalkeeper coach Ruben Martinez. Joachim Kayi Sanda made his Premier League debut in May. Who's not been pictured? Neither Tyler Dibling nor Mateus Fernandes have been pictured or captured in video on day one of pre-season training under new boss Still. Fernandes was involved in Portugal's Under-21 European Championship campaign last month and has likely been given extra time off. It is for that reason that Ronnie Edwards has also not linked up with the group yet, having been with the England squad that won the tournament. Edwards and Fernandes will likely rejoin Still's side after an extended holiday, but Dibling's omission is on the face of it more interesting. But was pictured on the first of pre-season testing at Solent University on Thursday, and we understand he is indeed at the camp with the squad. There is also no sign of Joe Aribo or Jan Bednarek. The former is in the last 12 months of his deal and the latter was on international duty in June. Finally, Aaron Ramsdale is also seemingly yet to link up, but he was very recently married and could have been given honeymoon leave.

  23. That would be a no...... Liverpool are celebrating a British-record transfer for Florian Wirtz, who arrives from Bayer Leverkusen on a fee that could reach £116m overall. The British record signing of 22-year-old German ace Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a £116m sum, the signing of another Leverkusen player in right back Jeremie Frimpong for £29.6m, and the soon-to-be new left back of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for £40m means the club’s outlay so far this summer stands at £185.6m. Liverpool could spend another £200m in the market this summer and still be PSR compliant
  24. As Sheffield United, Leicester, Southampton and Birmingham City emerge as potential destinations for Oliver Antman, the fact he was recently mentioned in the same breath as both Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal and Liverpool talisman Mo Salah speaks volumes. Specifically, it speaks volumes about Oliver Antman’s sudden emergence as one of the greatest creative forces of modern football. Albeit, of course, at a level far below where Lamine Yamal and Mo Salah are used to operating. No player in the Dutch Eredivisie produced more assists during the 2024/25 campaign. Across all competitions, the winger with a superhero surname announced himself as a one-man Marvel while setting up no fewer than 17 goals for his grateful Go Ahead Eagles teammates. Across Europe’s top ten leagues, only Salah and Bayern Munich’s former Crystal Palace playmaker Michael Olise provided more assists, as Voetbal International point out. Small in name but big in talent, Antman joins Yamal and Sporting Lisbon’s Francisco Trincao on the podium in joint-second place. No wonder the Birmingham City fans are dreaming of Oliver Antman dashing down the right-hand side under Chris Davies. No wonder the promotion-seeking trio of Sheffield United, Southampton and Leicester are interested too. EFL Analysis have been informed, via football correspondent Graeme Bailey, that the flying Finn could become the latest FC Nordsjaelland graduate to grace English football with his searing speed. Antman represented Danish outfit Nordsjaelland – like Mohammed Kudus, Simon Adingra and Southampton’s own Kamaldeen Sulemana – before joining Go Ahead Eagles in an inspired £1 million deal last summer. Should the 23-year-old move on after only 12 months in the Netherlands, he could replace Willum Willumsson – the rangy playmaker who swapped Deventer for St Andrews – as Go Ahead Eagles’ most expensive-ever export. “The season went exactly as well as I dared to hope and dream,” a beaming Antman told Finnish publication Yle recently, capping a fine league campaign with Go Ahead Eagles’ first-ever Dutch Cup triumph when beating AZ Alkmaar on penalties. “That feeling was something indescribable. A great feeling and a really proud feeling of myself, the club and the team.” As for his immediate future, while the lure of English football may prove impossible to ignore, clearly this is not a case of there being, ahem, ants in Antman’s pants. “The big thing is also that I enjoy myself on and off the pitch,” he added. “I like living in Deventer and I like playing for Go Ahead Eagles. It’s really good to be there. “It wouldn’t be a bad thing if I stayed in Holland. I enjoy playing there. But we’ll see what the summer brings.” Antman tipped for a ‘top club’ as Birmingham City weigh up another Eredivisie swoop Back in May, Antman followed up a brace against eventual Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven with another goal and two assists during a 3-2 victory over NEC Nijmegen. “It’s really special what he does,” head coach Paul Simonis told Voetbal International after watching Antman leave the NEC defence for dead before setting up Dean James’ opener. “It often looks so simple with him, but everything works. He’s really very good.” “Oliver proves it every week and is already putting up such numbers. He is the assist king of the Eredivisie and that, with all due respect, is at a club like Go Ahead and not at PSV. Then, he also scores easily. “Oliver at a top club? I can see that.” The aforementioned Southampton are targeting Chilean Lucas Cepeda, too, as Johannes Spors scours the market for potential Tyler Dibling replacements. Birmingham have also made excellent use of the Dutch market in recent times. After raiding Go Ahead Eagles for Willumsson, Birmingham have added Sontje Hansen – NEC’s former Ajax starlet – to a wishlist also including Oliver Antman.
  25. Here, Football League World have highlighted five potential Sulemana replacements the Saints should be eyeing up. Mustapha Bundu Mustapha Bundu was a leading light in Plymouth Argyle’s team last season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in just 27 Championship starts. His form was outstanding at the end of the campaign, netting against Middlesbrough, Coventry and Preston North End in consecutive games. In a more competitive team, it’s not unreasonable to suggest that Bundu could record an even more impressive tally. Season Appearances (Starts) Goals (Assists) 2023-24 27 (9) 3 (1) 2024-25 37 (27) 10 (6) The 28-year-old would also be available on a free transfer, with his deal at Home Park set to expire. Therefore, this would be a sensible, cost-effective deal that Southampton could take advantage of to replace Sulemana. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi Southampton have been keen on Crystal Palace forward Jesurun Rak-Sakyi for an extended period of time. The South Coast outfit originally tried to buy the forward before Sheffield United got him on loan last summer, offering a £5 million-plus package for the youngster, according to Alan Nixon. As per South London journalist Rich Cawley, Palace are willing to commission a sale for the 22-year-old this summer, at the steep asking price of £15 million. Rak-Sakyi scored seven goals and provided two assists for the Blades last term but struggled to leave a lasting impact at Bramall Lane. However, if harnessed correctly by Will Still, he could be an incredibly useful asset for Southampton. The attacker made a name for himself whilst on loan at Charlton during the 2022/23 League One campaign, scoring 15 goals and providing nine assists. If the Saints could get Rak-Sakyi performing at this level once more, he could be a deadly operator at St. Mary’s for years to come. Anis Mehmeti If Southampton are looking for a proven Championship threat that could be acquired for a sensible price, Anis Mehmeti is the man. He netted 12 times for Bristol City last term as the Robins finished in the play-off places and could go to the next level under Still at St. Mary’s. Anis Mehmeti's stats 2024/25 - per Fbref.com Stat Per 90 Non-penalty goals 0.35 Non-penalty expected goals (npxG) 0.31 Shots 2.89 Assists 0.04 At just 24 years of age, there is still room for the forward to develop into a more complete player, which means the Saints could potentially make a profit on him in the future. Last season really saw Mehmeti take his performances to the next level, and the Saints could provide him with the platform to excel in a side that have their sights set on the Championship title. William Bøving Southampton were linked with William Bøving earlier in the transfer window and would do well to continue in their pursuit. The Dane netted 11 times and provided five assists for Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga last term. He has continued that fine form into the summer, bagging for his country against Ukraine at the U21’s European Championships. He also started all eight of his side's Champions League matches last season, providing the youngster with vital experience that he could use to full effect at St. Mary’s. William Bøving's Senior Career, as per Transfermarkt Apps Goals Assists FC Copenhagen 44 5 4 Sturm Graz 111 21 17 The 22-year-old can operate both upfront or on the left-wing, so would be a fitting replacement for Sulemana. Still has previously shown that he is a dab hand at crafting young talent and extracting their full potential, so bringing Bøving to Southampton could be somewhat of a masterstroke this summer. Largie Ramazani Leeds United are preparing for life back in the Premier League, and it isn’t certain that Largie Ramazani will be part of Daniel Farke’s plans. TEAMtalk claimed that Rangers are interested in a deal for the 24-year-old this summer, and Southampton could use the opportunity to put their hat in the ring for his services. Leeds' wealth of attacking options limited Ramazani’s impact on the side last year, but he flourished when given the chance. Quick, agile and with a quality end product, the Belgian could wreak havoc on Southampton’s left flank if given a continued run in the team. The young forward netted six times in 29 Championship appearances for the Whites, with just seven of those outings coming as part of the starting 11. His flexible nature allows him to play on either flank as well as upfront, which would give Still the luxury of deploying the forward in multiple areas over the course of 46 games.
