You can read my previous posts on this tonight. Not ridiculous at all in my opinion - he is saying it is rising to those levels. It may not be there yet, but it certainly isn’t getter much better. And even if it was only half as bad, it still isn’t acceptable - or do you think it is acceptable?
-
You may be correct, but I’m not on any social media network, other than LinkedIn, which I really only use for jobs and messaging a few old work colleagues. I wouldn’t really understand or have an interest in how Twitter and the like actually operate at that detailed level.
-
Of course, I was born in the mid 70’s, only a couple of years older than Rio, and I do think he has a point. Remember, he didnt say it was as bad as that period, just it was going that way, or at least that is how I took it (where he said “rising to”.
-
Yeah, I think me and you feel differently about this issue, and what Rio said 👍🏼
-
Yeah dont doubt it, but i think if penalties start getting stronger, maybe that will have an impact. This may sound weird, but I’m not even totally sure a large number of people doing this are fundamentally racist - I mean they may be saying stuff in the way that someone says shit about someone who is fat, ginger, big noses etc. I imagine many are racist, but not all - just think some of them say shit out loud as it were without really thinking about it - those things are maybe things that can change through education, people like Rio and others talking about it, and maybe punishments. The fundamental racists, I’m not sure will be able to change their views, certainly not so easily.

Car parking at RSH - crazy charges from club?

Think I usually park down by the Yacht club, thought that was £5 a day. -
It’s may be me, but I dont understand your point. I think he is saying that, through social media, the issue is getting towards the levels from the 70/80s, and perhaps he has a point. I font have a n issue with people using their prominence to highlight such an important issue, and hopefully people doing this will reduce the amount of abuse that goes on.
-
Well, Rio was born in 78, so not much of the 70’s but he is probably well placed to recall the stuff that went on in the 80’s. And even if he didnt, not sure why that is relevant - the racism people faced back then was well documented.

Yep that’s the bbc one, thanks for finding it!
-
Nope it was something on read on there today, that one is about a month old
-
There was a bbc articles I read yesterday about social media abuse after the euro final, I think it said most of the abuse at England players came from the Middle East and China (not totally sure on China) but not much from the UK itself.

Welcome! And if we lose it is now officially your fault 😉

I’d be surprised if we offloaded FF at all in Jan, let alone the lion share of his wages. i did wonder if we do try a 6 month loan to WBA in Jan with them paying something like 1/3rd of his wages.

I can’t believe Claude Puel did a freaky Friday with Southgate. Dull as fuck this game, I was hoping Andorra equalised.

I agree, i think if you look at the Police, that’s wasnt necessarily institutional rascism, but faction of say the Police had problems with it, and others didnt or less so, same all across society. Largely, racism is a very small minority, and likely will never totally disappear, as people are human and think what they want. I mean we aren’t all Stepford Wives!
-
We are, but that doesn’t mean Institutional racism can’t co exist in certain factions of society
-
Think you are deliberately and conveniently missing my point from today and last time we had a chat. Enjoy the game 👍🏿

But isn’t that a really woke comment, tagging on to the media driven agenda? Honestly Turkish, I’m confused, as no one heard anything those poorly treated, oppressed people of Hungary said the other day.

I’m not sure you would be called racist for saying that, but there is a valid point many have mentioned. The company I work for, and many prior, made everyone take mandatory courses (I’m sure many on here also do), about loads of subjects, H&S, ED&I etc. The thing that has struck me over the last number of years is the constant updates and changes, one of which have been the term ‘black’ or ‘people of colour’. There is now a big push on unconscious bias and I have to admit it does seem a minefield. When I have discussed this with some of my friend who are black, they seem as confused as everyone, however I guess the point (or at least what I took from it) was that surely there doesn’t need to be referencing to someone’s colour. You know, we dont say ‘ oh have you met Dave? No who is he? Oh, he is the white guy who started in IT last week.’ That said, the same would apply to any skin colour, or obvious features, say if someone has ginger hair, a big nose, or are openly gay.
-
Yeah I’d likely do the same, but maybe some can’t afford a breakfast as good and wholesome as others…
-
I don’t disagree this is a wider issue, but people on here later discuss this as it is a football forum. I’m also not sure it will every truly disappear, from any walk off life.
-
I think the comparisons come from the abuse from social media towards some black players, which is unacceptable. It still highlights we have issues in this country, whilst not being as bad as some nations still should be happening.

Yeah I thought that when I wrote it, just had nothing else.

Yeah the booing makes me wonder what people who do it think it will achieve. I think it will stay, and it doesn’t bother me as such, it is part of the game, along with the fan rivalry and singing of songs, just certain aspects have gone too far on racist/homophobic stuff. And that was always there in the background, and had to be accepted years gone by, and thankfully we now live in a world where shit is called out for what it is. I remember in around 2010 and I was working near Clapham, and the stuff in Egypt and similar countries was kicking off rising up against certain regimes, and I thought then the power of the world has shifted, in part to the easy spread of information the internet/social media has permitted. As bad as I find social media (I’m not on any platform apart from LinkedIn and hell knows why I’m on there either, other than jobs really), there are some really powerful and good stuff it has supported & achieved.

Yeah, the not taking the knee thing/racists is just ridiculous in think, doesn’t need to be synonymous, and people think different things for loads of different reasons. I’m not so much for taking the knee, but doesn’t bother me if people want to.
