You could argue that the pathway still exists to a degree. He spent six months or so as a Premier League player with us, and now he is on the verge of signing for Juventus. Almost as if we are acting us the middle man for Juventus. Perhaps they were also looking at him when he was in Argentina, were reluctant to take a punt, where as we did. Now they've seen there is a player there, its a bit more attractive for them to take him.

Am wondering if the £40m transfer fee is just a nod to the sort of fee we are wanting for him. We probably know the Juve aren't going to stump up that figure even if he has a stellar loan spell. I prefer to remember him for his huge footballing ability and the immense joy he brought to me and my generation of supporters. I consider myself lucky to have been able to watch him live in a Saints shirt. As a club we will not ever have a player like him again.

Said many many times, I couldn't give a shit what he says now. The guy was my footballing hero. Always will be. No other player has given me so much joy watching my club than him. And no other player ever will.
