Truelly enlightened then? No one is ever advocating bringing in 'a Doris' to change football - just that if 'a Doris' is the best qualified and most knowledgeable then she should be given the opportunity and not held back because of some archaic preconceptions and prejudices. Football is still full of racism, homophobia, sexism - not because of some testosterone fuelled ******** --- but simply because those that run it, work in it and support it have those attitudes - its says more about the ignorant attitudes of the average fan than anything else. No one wants positive discrimination, that ******** just sets things back further, and respect for ability and knowledge has to be earned - respect for women is something that should be a given and if most of the 18-30 lads are thinking about 'smashing her' - then they need to grow the feck up - all blokes think about sex, nothing feckin new or wronng there, but 'smashing' FFS... Yes the Chelsea physio is 'fit' - nowt wrong with acknowledgiung that - and there is nothing wrong with having a laugh about it, but you need respect first or you just look as much of a f*ckwit as Keys and Gray did.

irponically to hold it you need to agree to the terms and conditions and importantly the rules laid down by the FL.... especially those regarding integrity of the competition and financial and points sanctions should you fail to adhere to them..... Also need your ground to come up to minimum standards etc, which is why in the past non-league clubs have had to waiver their promotion rights because they did not borrow millions to upgrade knowing they had not guarrantees to meet repayments - the ill-informed and ignoarant skates will argue that our administration was because we built SMS and could not pay for it - the reality is that the repayment schedule was negotiated to be around 1.7 mill a season, which was affordable in prem, CCC and L1 - what screwed us was the problesm witha several player contracts entered into when our boardroom was not stable and we paid the price, points deductions and 2nd relegation despite doing everything w ecould the moment it was recognised as a problem.. oh and we always paid the taxman and suppliers etc... Funnily enough, the Skates are right in that as fans they had no say, but they continue to enjoy the relative success their strange roguish ownership succession bought them - one of teh reasons why sympathy is so hard to find - yet had onthe pitch success been compromised through infrastructure investment when they had teh prem income, rather than record transfers and player wages, not only could it be argued that they would have more sympathy now, they would have been a darn sight more attractive as an investment... When they entered the premier league, they could have built a 25000 seater for around 50mil... now the cost will be inexcess of 100mil for 20k ... all that money, all that potential ****ed up the wall. No wonder Blackpool fans are relatively happy, they used their prem cash windfall to upgrade their stadium and build for the future and despite relegation are doing quite nicely thank you very much.... what is it about the mentality of their fans that the majority still say they would not give up their cup win for a more long term stable strategy?

Nah all that happens Alps is that age brings diversity - much less of a musical snob than I was in the late 80s and early 90s - teenage years was odd, already into Dylan, Neil Young, etc, anything by Ray Davies and found a rare original 'Five leaves Left' by an unknown to me at the time Nick Drake which was sublime (paid £2.50 for it in a record shop in Ramsgate... its now listed seperately on teh home contents insurance!) - loved Tom Petty sort of stuff to... The Rush thing began earlier.... anyone who has played an instrument in and heard Permanent Waves or Moving pictures and its just great complex music - and live they are superb.... next came the Uni years - Nirvana, Radiohead, RATM etc in the early 90s with a bit of James thrown in... hated any keyboard led dance ****e although always thought The prodigy were all right, or country....yet now sort apprecite pretty much anything that is not manufactured chart shiete...

Although the transfer/development policy seems focused on younger talent that can be coached/improved, I still believ an air of pragmatism will come into it if we are promoted - Consolidation will be the only target, anything else will be naive. Therefore getting a coupel of more experience older pros to help nurture and provide that experience whilst teh younger players develop is not a new approach, but perhaps a good one? We used to do it in the early 80s afterall ;-) Not saying Upson should be one of those, most likely its his agent 'expressing interest' that a move to Saints might be good rather than the club... but the idea is not that unusual

Ok ... question time... If by some miracle they found a Liebherr type who invested 50 from the off to clear all current debt and existing CVA... would we consider this the end of cheating and wish them good luck in L1?

TBH though this is a classic case of how teh 'PC brigade' get the blame for something when the reality has nbothing to do with PC. Is primarily a combination of potential litigation and the ABUSEs of that power that were frequently communicated in the media - There has been a cultural shift interms of respect for authority and in the level of responsibilty parents teach their kids - indeed half teh battle is often with the parents themselves who will side with their little angels rather than their teachers - as teh parents have no respect for the teachers either - only 30 years ago aged 12 we still had the cane, which was grim enough, but what was worse was what awaited you from parents if you ahve been bad enough at school to warrant it... ...but seriously it would be wrong to hang this at the door of PC - its a direct result of the 'over use' and abuse which in some cases bordered on brutality - as such historic cases came to light through the media, the natural reaction is one of banning as its the only way to control the abuses - sadly it also means that the restricted and appropriate use of such punishment is lost with it. There is a huge amount of truth in the 'it never did me any harm', as for most folk thats true, me included.... but the ban is to help the 1 in 100 (estimated/figure of speech) who WERE harmed by it - both physically and psychologically. Sadly there wa sno appropriate alternative to deal with the fall out.

Well to be fair - its VITAL that despite the current challenges that they look forward and try now to resolve such issues as how to distribute fairly the 25000 odd tickets they will get between the 200,000 fans who attend regularly and are to be seen clubbing together right now to save the club. TBH 8m DEVIDED by 200,000 is only £40 each - less than the price of the cheapest cup final ticket so really cant see how they will fail to raise the necessary cash. Surely therefore, the fairest system right now would be to allocate a cup final voucher on a first come first served basis - eg the first 25000 who donate their £40 get to go to the next one they are in - the next 25000 the final after that and so on. Given size of the club, infrstructure and spending history, it cant be more than 20 years before all 200,000 have had their cup final? Also they would in effect be a true community club with 200,000 members all having and equal vote on the serious business matters to hand - first item on the agenda must surely be fat removal from the pipes - I feel confident that within such a democratic system, they might be able to complete this vital operation by the 2018-2019 season and naturally those fans helping out with teh fat removal could qualify for the meat raffle but and one of the lucky heather concessions?

Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....

True but in that case as a self governing entity, surely the onus would be on the United Nations to issue a resolution should miltary action need to be taken following an illegal act of any kind by Argentina? Ok so we have not staked any claim to mineral rights, but would we be slow in doing so if the quantities available were worth the cost of extraction long term? I just think there is always more to this than 'rights of people' - -
A I understood it ...does it matter either way? I thought the charge on the ground was levied because he was not paid in full when he 'sold' the first time round? and then he had a charge on CSI as they were paying him in installments - so in effect he has these charges because he has not been paid in full for his sale, not because he 'put money in' ???

Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....
Frank's cousin replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Lounge
Granted it appears simple - but I think what plays a huge part in this is the sovereignty question - and how that plays to national pride etc. Argentina has for sometime claimed the islands as part of their territory, and giving up 'territory' to another nation does not sit easy with any country - so an impasse? Well if the UK Govt is ONLY concerned with the rights of self determination of the islanders then the first step must surely be to work with the Argentinians to get them to acknowledge that self determination is the right thing - remove the issue of UK V Argentina on sovereignty and create room for a 'back down'. Not Argnetina forfeiting a right to territory, but Argentina recognising this right of the islanders - OK very simplistic but in such discussions, the Argentinians could be granted the opportunity to present their case and benefits to the falkland islanders so that any 'vote' is made with that in mind etc... Not saying it would work and as Dell days has mentioned we dont know what happens behind the closed doors/back channels, but if the ned game is self determination and an end to any further claims, then what is to be lost by this? If on the other hand there is more to it than that, mineral rights, etc then at least be honest about it. How would the islanders feel if their self determination rights were only supported by UK Govt as a convenient moral justification for a more commercial reason? Not saying that is the case, but whenever we hear Governments make grandiose statements about 'rights' etc, how often are there really underlying reasons? Afterall. Iraq, Libya etc had more to do with the oil than the rights of ordinary citizens to self govern? -
So classic brinkmanship from Birch... ironically not saying a whole lot different to the sort of stuff AA used to come out with... maybe the only difference being that AA bigging up the club for sake of single creditor Mr Chanrai, versus Birch actually looking after them all...so some improvemnet , granted ;-) What's your take then Granty on the end game and any further punishment?

:-) Totally agree the issue now should be about the right to self determine - but the above does show how easy it is to forget history and just assume its a simple case of 'we got their first' etc. Re DellDays point about teh way we are handling it... I agree the way most media channels have handled the 30th anniverary have been measured and fair, and to some extent you are right about the sovereignty issue, but can you see that staying the same? -
True, Understand the logic of why a descretionary points deduction or retrospective action should be taken, but seems the FL have said they wont do it if Birch is to believed... I suspect in part because its still very unclear as to whether Pompey will find a buyer or even if they do whether the creditors will agree a CVA... I get the impression that the FL want to be seen to be supporting the club for some reason - which does go against the integrity of the competion, yet if relegated they can at least say, that ''we supported the club in avoiding liquidation, but our rules on fair competition have worked as the club was relegated and thus did not gain any sporting advantage through this administration....''

That's a little disenguous - I suspect that dplomatic dialogue was not quite as diplomatic in 1833 - given that there was indeed a need to sail down there and kill 600+ suggest one of two things: you say that the dialogue did not work, I say that dialogue was not fully explored... we have to agree to differ -

Not quite sure where you think I have accomodated imperialistic views of Argentina - where have I said they are right in any of this? I am and its pretty clear talking about the methods used to address the issue... -

Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....
Frank's cousin replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Lounge
... Oh in case its not clear ... I am not suggesting dialogue to 'simply hand them over' I ad talking about dialogue that finally leads to an end of any claims - a convincing and diplomatic rationale that removes and 'need' for such a claim... These things are steeped in political rhetoric - if not resloved they keep rearing its ugly head as another new PM uses it to stir up nationalism and avoid addressing local problems. Its about removing the issue form the list of political opportunim. -

I appreciate that wa stongue in cheek, but I suspect you know that such dimplomatic dialogue is a little more complex - would explore the history, the original settlement, strategic importance, resources and rights of self determination... If free of nationlistic rhetoric and jingoism, debate can move things forward. -

well I suggest other nations did exactly that after we had claimed their lands, it took longer for them to gain tehir independence, but most now have - the only difference is that The Falklands were not inhabited when we 'claimed them' - had they been, as mentioned to the Tory Boy, would you be an advocate for self determination of the original indigenous population? -

It is if they decide to go down a military route again... unlikely yes, but it does then become our problem. -

What are you implying? Not all of us have the same racist bigoted attitiude as you Duney boy. You forget your history as well, teh only reason they are inhabited by 'anglo saxons (half Germans ;-) is that their forefathers 'claimed' that territory. Had it been inhabited by a local indigenous population (oh as Gibraltar is/was) would you be defending their right to self determination and independence even if they were in the minority now? (Cue very short ignorant trolling response full of bigotted, bombastic jingoistic bull sh it that you dont really beieve in but say because you think it sound good....)
