  1. "Well Brighton to Southampton via London is a bit of a pain in the arse (I assume you're leaving from Brighton ?). And hows things for getting back ? Fair play to you for going, I know I just cannot be arsed. Rubbish stadium, middle of nowhere. Might have gone on a Saturday this season, but not a Sunday evening. No sir" http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?t=162001 Obviously NEVER been here...and coming from a fan who's club is building a new stadium in some farmer's field in the "middle of nowhere"...
  2. "You faaackin' scaaammer caaants!!!"
  3. Could you put 19C down for one ticket, he's got so many things to ask him...face to face.
  4. As you rightly say, made up in a portsmyth fanzine a few years back (one of the skate posters in 'The Lounge' even confessed he was involved with it sometime ago) when some started to question the reasons behind their extreme hatred for us. And they had to come up with something tasty. They invented something they thought would get 'poor ol' "working-class" p*mpey the sympathy vote and instant justification for their obsessive hate/bitterness/envy/etc. All this could have been instantly dismissed by a quick look at the history books but unfortunately the likes of "lovable-old-skate" Fred Drainage gave it airtime on Merid-skate TV as if was all fact and so the myth quickly grew. Example of how the bull****e can travel... http://www.leytonorient2.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=222715 And us barely noticing they were there all those years killed 'em the most.
  5. You could try tapping up ol' Tom Brahams late of 'The Saint' Radio, big O's fan, hopefully gotta soft spot for Southampton fans, may get ya seats next to the lovely Barry Hearn, he's gotta soft spot for us too!
  6. ...and maybe Mr Askham for bringing in Wupert & Co who went on to bring the club to it's knees which in turn lead to the likes of Mr McLaughlin and...... We thank you all.
  7. Small, over-achieving provincial football club, living beyond their means, with bitter, deluded, island-community-type fan base.
  8. I would think 400 for a midweek 600 mile-round trip in League One wouldn't be so bad (tho think we may well exceed that). As for Millwall, we'll probably only get a couple of thousand tickets and who could blame 'families' giving it a wide berth - leave more tickets for us hardier soles! So far this season we've taken around 1k to games up north, over 3k midweek to Swindon and similar to Charlton. From our starting position I think that's pretty commendable and anyways 'more fans in wanting to follow a winning side' shocker!
  9. I don't think that's quite right as we needed at least a point against Spurs (as did they) on the last day to guarantee it. Brighton fans still believe to this day a 0-0 at the Dell was manufactured as they missed out.
  10. ...and if you think they were all bitter'n'twisted and eaten up with raging hate for us in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s........when we barely noticed they were there...just think what they're gonna be like when we pass them on the way up in the not too distant future... The island freaks'll go into meltdown.
  11. ...well if they don't we should certainly award him Freedom of Southampton for services rendered...
  12. Whatever the capacity was of that stand that night didn't really matter 'cos they just kept packing 'em in. That's why nobody could put a figure on how many were there, it generally ranges from 12,000 to 15,000. Madness in hindsight but no doubt they didn't want too many Saints fans in other parts of the ground (particularly as predicted some Spurs hoolis turned up (very briefly!) at the end to our left). You couldn't move on that terrace and a number of us climbed up at the back, hanging on for dear life for 90 minutes from the roof. This gave us an incredible view of the mass of Saints fans going beserk below when Tony Funnell equalised - and also of the wall giving way (towards the other end from where we were) and fans spilling out. But what a night...as you say 'appy days.
  13. .............................?
  14. Without a shred of a doubt 1978. Fortunate enough to say, "I was there". 'appy days.
  15. Although this ground holds some good memories for older fans having virtually secured promotion there twice, I don't think this particular 'match' is "massive to Saints fans", I think our next away game was always gonna be popular after recent results. Anyways, we've already taken more away this season - 3,500 to Swindon mid-week. And should we beat MK on sat....
  16. ...and I wouldn't think the away fans completely taking over the home-teams partisan 'kop' has happened too many times over the years!
  17. 'kin 'ell there's been some painfully low(e) points over the past 5 years or so but for me the lowest point was that gutless capitulation at fartton in '05. With the ol' Bill again deliberately delaying our train and any contest already over by the time we actually got into the sh*thole, we then had to witness what was left of the game with the biggest bunch of spineless c.... ever to wear the red and white stripes. Anything since has been felt with a kind of numbing acceptance. But then enter Mr Liebherr & Co...
  18. It's no surprise there was trouble that day if some weirdo started singing that, they'd deserve to get smacked... Most were packed onto the terrace behind the goal but I remember quite a number of 'Wagon' lads were down the side (in the stand we'll be in in a couple of weeks) and had a bit-of-bother. Was also the day some of the 'infamous' ICF turned up...about an hour before anyone else did!
  19. 'appy days. Those games will live with those of us fortunate enough to be there for the rest of our days, you just get the feeling some more like that may not be too far away..........:partyman:
  20. I believe we had more than that at Dellhurst. If I remember correctly we had an official allocation sold through the club, another 3000-or-so were sold to Saints fans through Ticketmaster and then others bought Wimbledon tickets.
  21. Not quite right...second allocation was a further 1,500, making 2,500 and are all but sold out. 500 more will be arriving next week for the maximum 3,000 visitors allocation - which will be like gold dust. I believe it's pay-on-the-day for home fans tho
