The whole “we will just get him in the summer” rhetoric is arguably the most worrying of the day. We are 19th in the table!! If things stay the way they are we will go down and we won’t be signing £30m wingers. Just shows the blindness to the predicament we are in.
-
It’ll cost us a hell of a lot more if we get relegated.
-
Exactly, money talks ultimately - it’s just typically Saints spin to deflect from the fact that we’ve cocked up another January window.
-
This is why you can blame SFC if nobody else comes in - if they knew that the deal was contingent on Spartak finding a replacement then they should have been pursuing the back up targets. At a time when you're second bottom, you can't rely on things out of your control happening (another club signing a player) especially when they don't appear particularly keen on selling. As usual, we've faffed and faffed and have now whipped out the usual "quiet day at SFC, did all we could, difficult time to do business etc. etc.". It just doesn't stack up when you see teams like WBA securing targets like Daniel Sturridge. My prediction is that we won't sign anyone and we'll then subsequently hear about a desperate attempt to take a thoroughly average player on loan but couldn't get it done in time. You'd have thought they'd have learnt from last season's CB catastrophe but clearly not and it sounds like an almost identical situation here. Unfortunately, this year it won't cost us the League Cup, it'll cost us our Premier League status.

1-2/10 at best at the moment. Utterly pathetic.

Because we shouldn’t have invested so much time in a deal, leaving it to the last day and leaving ourselves without anyone. We are 19th in the table for goodness sake. We needed new blood to lift the fans and the team, especially given that we did the Virgil deal early on the premise of getting players in. Despite all this, the only deal we seem to have been able to do is to massively over pay for a Monaco reserve with a patchy goal record that is mates with our useless manager. Given our precarious position this window has been an utter disaster.

Pellegrino out? Or are we resigned to keeping him?
James replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
If we lose the next two we might as well not bother as he will have well and truly screwed us by then. -
They’ve already got that Diabate guy.
-
I completely agree but I’ve resigned myself to Pellegrino being here until the situation is utterly desperate (ie if we lose the next two but even then I’m not convinced he’ll get the sack). In the absence of a managerial change we needed an active window to try and inject something and at the moment, despite exciting names being leaked to appease a disgruntled fan base, we’ve not delivered save for a player that the fans are rightly sceptical of given he’s a Pellegrino signing. If we get Promes it’ll have been a decent window and we will have invested in a big way given our recent history but it’s a big if. Even then, we are probably still a CB short.
-
If Carrillo is our only incoming then it’s hard to argue we’ve had anything other than a shocking window. When you look at our direct relegation rivals securing quality players like Sturridge (even on a short term basis) then it doesn’t look good for us at all. Fingers crossed we can get Promes but doesn’t sound too likely and doesn’t sound like we’ve got a back up plan at this point.
-
This. We’ve got a decent side being stifled by an idiot in the dugout. Still, fans like Shroppie are happy so that’s all that matters. We definitely won in spite of the manager today. If Watford has played a proper side we’d have drawn or lost.
-
We’ve only won one game in the league by more than one goal so it seems unlikely doesn’t it? We’ll go 1 up and either draw or lose 2-1, the Pelleclown specialty.
-
We’ve still got a poor manager who did his best to lose that. Jesus.
-
Manager is awful, no matter the result he will never change from this dross safety first approach.
-
More tactical genius from Pelleclown.
-
Agreed - Tadic on the left v Spurs made us tick. Obviously the clown manager can’t see it.
-
Which of those points do you deem “pathetic nonsense”? They are all true and have all cost us points so far this season.
-
I doubt we’d be putting in significant resource to try and get him if he wasn’t at least open to coming here. I refuse to believe our board are that stupid. But yeah, let’s believe some Twitter source reporting some Russian media report. Let’s see what happens before next Wednesday. We will get one more in I reckon.

To be fair, they get a lot of things wrong on that show and say things to fit their own narrative. Pretty sure they thought Pellegrino was a very good appointment at the time and look how that's turned out. You don't turn up at Monaco if you're 'not very good', may not be top quality but he's clearly at least a competent player and of a type that we need. Fingers crossed!
-
He wouldn't necessarily have been my choice, and I do have a degree of trepidation given he is clearly a Pellegrino signing, but there's absolutely no doubt he is the sort of player we need. We haven't had a big man up top since Pelle and having that profile of player does create chances for other players with flick ons, hold ups and chest downs etc. Welcome Guido, let's see what you can do.

Something Southampton F.C haven't quite learnt yet when it comes to flogging our players.
-
Agreed, as well as we played against Spurs I'm not confident we will beat Brighton. We've played well against Arsenal and Man U and then followed it up with dire performances. Fingers crossed that changes, it had better otherwise we are done.
-
Surely a loss v Brighton would trigger a managerial change for us? Surely...?
-
Shows what a managerial change can do for you. As well as we played on Sunday we've still only won 1 game in 15 in the league. Failure to get four points from Brighton and WBA will be an utter disaster. If we lose against Brighton we are in serious serious trouble.

Kevin Friend really is a poor referee.
