  1. I also don't accept his reason that he's waiting for the right moment to change. Maybe it's his way of fitting Jack Stephens in to the team, but I agree, for someone who has a reputation for adapting to circumstances (which doesn't just mean throwing on all your forwards when you're 1-0 down), he seems pretty set in his way playing 5 at the back the whole time.
  2. And they are miles too slow. There's an argument to put in Quarshie if you're doing 5 at the back because he's fast and can track back quickly; he gets his head on the ball and we shouldn't underestimate his long throw-ins. Just a pity he can't kick a football. Just watched the highlights. What was Will Still getting all wound out about at the end of the game?
  3. He's a bit like marmite with our fans. I still like him. He covers a lot of ground (as does the contents of his bowels apparently!), breaks up opposition play, is usually in space to receive a pass and seems to have got over the needless yellow cards. In fact, I think he's already had a couple of good games for us this season. But he does need to find a new chef. What was it this time?
  4. Sat down at half time saying Archer was having a good game, Azaz ok, Wee man was making a nuisance of himself and generally felt we were in control against a bang average Watford side. But there's almost an arrogance that's crept in to the team where they feel they're the big fish. They were actually quite sloppy in the second half. Of the subs, Matsuki came on and was good and Stewart seemed to get involved in his cameo but when Downs and AA came on together, you knew it wasn't going to end well.
  5. For the first time in a while, actually looking forward to this game. Only Aziz of the new signings is ok to play tomorrow but just feel we're a club on the move at the moment - hopefully upwards!
  6. That's exactly it. This team we're building (especially with today's additions) sound like solid Championship contenders, but all our premier league quality players are gone. Oh well, let's get promoted first then think about next year.
  7. I'm hoping Archer and Stewart can do well together too. I would like to see them closer together than they were at Norwich but given who we've signed today, they won't have to go chasing balls out wide anymore and instead can work on the distribution coming to them.
  8. Yes, he hasn't exactly lit up the games he's played this season. And it was noticeable he wasn't in the squad against Norwich so with hindsight, you could see he was off. Come to think of it, Adam Armstrong wasn't in the squad either. Here's hoping.
  9. Yes, once a player asks to leave you lose respect for the player... Someone else can score a goal for me! Shit, we really haven't got many chants now!
  10. And he's playing five at the back when they're 2-0 down! And Grimsby with their 4-4-2 have just had another goal disallowed. Will Still are you watching?
  11. Been a total disappointment so far and haven't worked out what QPR fans saw in him. And that pushing stuff he does is intensely irritating. Yes he needs more games and it's odd if he goes so quickly, but we have enough centre backs at the moment.
  12. And that's the market Spors and Still know. Hope it's not a case of the club have Dibling money burning a hole in their pockets so they need to spend it as quickly as possible. Remember the Van Dijk money went very quickly. However, Azaz looks a promising signing.
  13. Totally agree. Was stretching it a bit for Norwich to be part of a southern draw but good that we filled our allocation and from the TV, the support sounded very good. Watched the game on TV and thought there were a lot of positives to take from it:- Archer's finish was excellent and his all round game was more on it than we've seen before. When you pay Euro 3m for a 6ft 5" lightning fast central defender you're not going to get a world beater, but Quarshie headers the ball well and seemed confident in defence. In addition to his strike, Matsuki also looked very confident and competent.
  14. He's given these two a chance tonight, so let's hope there's some understanding between them and they play off each other. Of all our crap forwards, this is my main hope for things to sort of work up front.
  15. Mentioned it before but without wanting to sound panicy, it does concern me that we don't have much of a midfield except Charles and Downes. He's playing those two again because that's all we've got. If either get injured/acquire too many yellow cards, we are properly screwed.
  16. Problem is, that's his pond where he goes fishing and our scouts don't seem to find anyone else. Downs is Sekou Mara in disguise and Quashie I like but he can't kick a football.
  17. Rumours are £42m. For someone with one year left on his contract and who cost us nothing, can't argue with that and it doesn't sound like scurrying back to me. Big question is what we do with the money. A winger? An attacker? £10m buys a lot in the championship.
  18. I think he will do fine too. A week ago after the Ipswich game many posters were positive about our play and one loss and it's a calamity. Sure he has to realise Adam Armstrong can't play up front on his own. Sure he needs to change formations. But apparently Saints have created more chances in the first three games than any other team...
  19. But we do have others who can lay off the ball. I still think Archer can do Adams' job. Possibly Stewart. There's something about this squad that ekes mid table Championship. Matty Fernandez is arguably our stand out player but he's doing a good job of dissuading potential investors. Can't see who else there is from which we build the spine of a team - THB, Shea Charles? Also do hope Will Still goes to a back 4 soon. Understand his reasoning why he hasn't but he need to show he can adapt.
  20. Got to agree. SR seem to be buying players for physique rather than those who can kick a football. As a centre back, Quarshie covers quickly and can head the ball so don't have a problem buying him and playing him but Downs - what is he offering? Sad thing is, can't see him improving and making the grade.
  21. But a lot of us have been asking who's going to score the goals for us this season and the answer is not our forwards. Downs did not get in to the right positions today, Stewart tries to knock the ball in with his knob when a header might have been a better option, and AA should be nowhere near the team. Too many on this forum were taking Stoke for granted. They just looked more the part. Pissed off how teams time waste nowadays and maybe a rugby system where the ref calls on assistance and the games carries on should be considered because this is getting out of hand (the pundits call it game management - fuck them). That stated, I'm enjoying the games a lot more this season even though we could easily have been 0 points from three.
  22. Been very impressed with Baz this year. Confidence is a big thing in any sport and the way he directs his defence, the way he congratulates himself when he makes a telling save says he feels better about himself this year. If I'm being critical, there's still work needed on getting down low to his left (aka the one that hit the post against Ipswich, the penalty possibly) and his long kicks have found the touchline a couple of times, but overall it's great to see his transformation.
  23. And from Everton previously being the only ones on the scene, now we've got Palace interested (and Spurs possibly?).......
  24. If to Everton, that would confuse a few defences especially with the socks also rolled down.
  25. He's put on his account today that he admits he didn't have his best game today, so he's very self-aware 😀 Is he primarily right footed and playing on the left side of centre? In golf speak, when he kicks, he seems to be slicing the ball. He needs to get his hips through the kick!
