The Middlesbrough 2026 Appreciation Thread
West end Saints replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Thank you for sharing with us your concerns about BBC Tees Sport: Post-match broadcast on 12 May. While we recognise emotions were running high following a dramatic and controversial end to the play-off semi-final, we also expect all of our output to meet the BBC’s editorial standards. Supporter reaction and fans' opinions are, of course, an important part of sports coverage and it is entirely legitimate to reflect the strength of feeling around major sporting moments. However, on this occasion part of the discussion went beyond what we considered editorially appropriate. We are sorry for that. We have therefore edited the programme on BBC Sounds to remove the section concerned. We have also spoken to the team involved to remind them of the need to ensure that both presenter analysis and contributions from fans and pundits remains within the BBC’s editorial standards at all times. Your points were also included in our overnight report. These reports are among the most widely read sources of feedback at the BBC, and help inform our future editorial judgements. Thank you again for contacting us.- 282 replies

Dean Holden Hull assistant manger "We are preparing to play Southampton on Saturday at Wembley, that's what we have been told by EFL" ..."purely on Southampton" "Full focus is, and will remain, on Southampton" Also says they are not preparing or analysing Middlesbrough at all. Asked about changing date or venue - that's far-fetched
-
No they don't, the burden of proof in discipline and civil matters is the balance of probability. interesting that the game going ahead if a common view here. I really struggle to put my mind around the other way but genuinely feel I wouldn't be outraged - irritated maybe, expecting some punishment etc. However on their forums, or course like all (here!) there are extreme views but by far the consensus seems to be relaxed and unable to see a way we are allowed to play. Can't help feeling I am being too biased in belittling this so am now pessimistic ( although I have my game ticket, I can't say I am currently excited not have a looked into transport)
-
By neither side, do you mean us and Middlesbrough? As I understand it they are not a party to the discipline proceedings so wouldn't have an appeal route open to them?

Their local BBC radio podcast https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0nkvtz2?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile the presenter, 'Dana' referred to Southampton as a “rotten football club with horrible players and horrible fans” and described Southampton player Taylor Harwood-Bellis as “scum” and “a piece of scum”. See fans still expecting us to be thrown out and add to that a 5 game ban for THB -
I can't decide what is the best result for us, but realised I don't have to! Overall think draw is best result for us, keeps top 2 possible, and helps with top 4.

Man City 2-1 Saints - Match Thread
West end Saints replied to Football Special's topic in The Saints
Man city, I think are on sale to anyone who has ever been to their stadium (does that include us?!) to buy 3 tickets -
Said similar about Shane long, if he finished every chance he made with his speed and work rate he would be Suarez and not playing for us.

Tough though, always good to see West Ham suffer, always thought particularly arrogant fanbase, teams that have played horrible football in recent years, and recruiting our relegated players... Then Spurs... Happy with either

I would prefer our run in to Wrexham's. Personally think we may lose there but finish above them. Not sure I agree with ratings but below shows how many home / away and league position of opponents Coventry City vs Swansea City (A) – 11th vs Derby County (H) – 8th vs Hull City (A) – 5th vs Sheffield Wednesday (H) – 24th vs Blackburn Rovers (A) – 19th vs Portsmouth (H) – 20th vs Wrexham (H) – 7th vs Watford (A) – 9th 4 home average opponents league position 14.8th 4 away average opponents league position 11th % games at home = 50% Run-in difficulty rating = 4 Middlesbrough vs Blackburn Rovers (A) – 19th vs Millwall (H) – 4th vs Swansea City (A) – 11th vs Portsmouth (H) – 20th vs Ipswich Town (A) – 3rd vs Sheffield Wednesday (H) – 24th vs Watford (A) – 9th vs Wrexham (A) – 7th 3 home average opponents league position 16th 5 away average opponents league position 9.8th % games at home = 37.5% Run-in difficulty rating = 3 Ipswich Town vs Millwall (H) – 4th vs Southampton (A) – 6th vs Birmingham City (H) – 10th vs Norwich City (A) – 12th vs Portsmouth (A) – 20th vs Middlesbrough (H) – 2nd vs Charlton Athletic (A) – 18th vs Southampton (H) – 6th vs West Brom (A) – 21st 4 home average opponents league position 5.5th 5 away average opponents league position 15.4th % games at home = 44.4% Run-in difficulty rating = 7 Millwall vs Ipswich Town (A) – 3rd vs Middlesbrough (A) – 2nd vs Norwich City (H) – 12th vs West Brom (A) – 21st vs QPR (H) – 16th vs Stoke City (A) – 13th vs Leicester City (A) – 23rd vs Oxford United (H) – 22nd 3 home average opponents league position 16.7th 5 away average opponents league position 12.4th % games at home = 37.5% Run-in difficulty rating = 2 Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday (H) – 24th vs Oxford United (A) – 22nd vs Coventry City (H) – 1st vs Sheffield United (A) – 15th vs Birmingham City (H) – 10th vs Leicester City (A) – 23rd vs Watford (H) – 9th vs Wrexham (A) – 7th 4 home average opponents league position 11th 4 away average opponents league position 16.8th % games at home = 50% Run-in difficulty rating = 1 Southampton vs Oxford United (H) – 22nd vs Wrexham (A) – 7th vs Derby County (H) – 8th vs Swansea City (A) – 11th vs Bristol City (H) – 14th vs Blackburn Rovers (H) – 19th vs Ipswich Town (H) – 3rd vs Preston North End (A) – 17th 5 home average opponents league position 13.2nd 3 away average opponents league position 11.7th % games at home = 62.5% Run-in difficulty rating = 5 Wrexham AFC vs Sheffield United (A) – 15th vs West Brom (A) – 21st vs Southampton (H) – 6th vs Birmingham City (A) – 10th vs Stoke City (H) – 13th vs Oxford United (A) – 22nd vs Coventry City (A) – 1st vs Middlesbrough (H) – 2nd 3 home average opponents league position 7th 5 away average opponents league position 13.8th % games at home = 37.5% Run-in difficulty rating = 8 Derby County vs Birmingham City (H) – 10th vs Coventry City (A) – 1st vs Stoke City (H) – 13th vs Southampton (A) – 6th vs Oxford United (H) – 22nd vs Sheffield United (A) – 15th vs QPR (H) – 16th vs Norwich City (A) – 12th 4 home average opponents league position 15.3rd 4 away average opponents league position 8.5th % games at home = 50% Run-in difficulty rating = 6 Watford vs Leicester City (H) – 23rd vs QPR (A) – 16th vs Charlton Athletic (H) – 18th vs Oxford United (A) – 22nd vs Sheffield United (H) – 15th vs West Brom (A) – 21st vs Middlesbrough (A) – 2nd vs Hull City (A) – 5th vs Coventry City (H) – 1st 4 home average opponents league position 14.3rd 5 away average opponents league position 13.2nd % games at home = 44.4% Run-in difficulty rating = 9

Just for fun I did Ai prediction, asking it to look at form, whether games are home or away, injury news and any other factors. I know it's not accurate and sometimes misses fixtures etc but it's breakdown is, based on today. It does pick up on teams playing each other better than I do... 1st 0.1% 2nd 8.5% 3rd 12.0% 4th 22.0% 5th 28.0% 6th 24.4% 7th 4.0% 8th 0.5% 9th 0.3% It adds comment that, with weighting for squad depth, and likely end of season form 4th increases further.

How can anyone say it's over?? Wrexham vs Watford (A), Predicted Score: 1-1, Running Total: 61 points vs Sheffield Utd (A), Predicted Score: 2-1 Loss, Running Total: 61 points vs West Brom (A), Predicted Score: 0-1 Win, Running Total: 64 points vs Southampton (H), Predicted Score: 2-1 Win, Running Total: 67 points vs Birmingham (A), Predicted Score: 2-0 Loss, Running Total: 67 points vs Stoke City (H), Predicted Score: 2-0 Win, Running Total: 70 points vs Oxford Utd (A), Predicted Score: 0-1 Win, Running Total: 73 points vs Coventry (A), Predicted Score: 2-1 Loss, Running Total: 73 points vs Middlesbrough (H), Predicted Score: 1-1, Running Total: 74 points Final Stats: 74 Points, +10 Goal Difference. Southampton's Predicted Run-in: vs Norwich (H), Predicted Score: 2-0 Win, Running Total: 60 points vs Oxford Utd (H), Predicted Score: 3-0 Win, Running Total: 63 points vs Wrexham (A), Predicted Score: 2-1 Loss, Running Total: 63 points vs Derby (H), Predicted Score: 2-1 Win, Running Total: 66 points vs Swansea (A), Predicted Score: 1-2 Win, Running Total: 69 points vs Bristol City (H), Predicted Score: 3-0 Win, Running Total: 72 points vs Blackburn (H), Predicted Score: 4-0 Win, Running Total: 75 points vs Ipswich (H), Predicted Score: 1-1, Running Total: 76 points vs Preston (A), Predicted Score: 0-1 Win, Running Total: 79 points Final Stats: 79 Points, +28 Goal Difference. We finish 5 points clear, after losing at Wrexham, with much better goal difference. It won't happen like this but shows we are right in it, but few bad results for either would turn it

Relax.... Wrexham vs Watford (A): Draw (1-1) — Vicarage Road is a tough place to go. vs Sheffield Utd (A): Loss (2-1) — The Blades are pushing for autos. vs West Brom (A): Win (0-1) — Wrexham often find a way in gritty away games. vs Southampton (H): Draw (2-2) — A classic high-stakes battle. vs Birmingham (A): Loss (2-0) — Fatigue starts to show. vs Stoke City (H): Win (2-1) — The Cae Ras crowd carries them. vs Oxford Utd (A): Win (0-2) — Crucial points against lower-half opposition. vs Coventry City (A): Loss (3-1) — Toughest game left on the calendar. Southampton vs Coventry (A): Loss (2-1) — The leaders are just too strong right now. vs Norwich (H): Win (3-1) — Clinical at St Mary's. vs Oxford Utd (H): Win (4-0) — Goal difference booster. vs Ipswich Town (H): Draw (1-1) — A tactical stalemate. vs Wrexham (A): Draw (2-2) — Honors even in North Wales. vs Derby County (H): Win (2-0) — Professional performance. vs Swansea City (A): Win (1-2) — Saints' possession game frustrates the Swans. vs Bristol City (H): Win (2-1) — Late winner secures the points. vs Blackburn (H): Win (3-0) — Dominant home display. vs Preston (A): Draw (1- 1) — Last day nerves We finish two points clear with much better goal difference. Don't stress after a defeat tomorrow it will be on target

Who was the last underdog to win a quarter final and stop a team winning the quadruple? And we were really shit then!

An Ai stat analysis (which won't be accurate but is a straw for me to clutch) includes league table, home away from and fixture predictions. Currently 35% chance of top 6. After Hull v Wrexham game, if Hull win up to 45%, draw remains 35%, but Wrexham win we go down to 20%. This is their prediction for the rest of the season with us missing out by 2 points Wrexham 75 points vs Hull City (H): Loss (1-2) vs Swansea City (H): Win vs Watford (A): Draw vs Sheffield Utd (A): Loss vs West Brom (A): Win vs Southampton (H): Draw (1-1) vs Birmingham City (A): Win vs Stoke City (H): Win vs Oxford Utd (A): Win vs Coventry City (A): Loss vs Middlesbrough (H): Draw Our 73 points vs West Brom (A): Win vs Coventry City (A): Loss vs Norwich City (H): Win vs Oxford Utd (H): Win vs Ipswich Town (H): Draw vs Wrexham (A): Draw (1-1) vs Derby County (H): Win vs Swansea City (A): Draw vs Bristol City (H): Win vs Blackburn Rovers (H): Win vs Preston (A): Loss

Would we have won the league with Ramsdale and Onuachu?
West end Saints replied to SaintsRoyalty's topic in The Saints
TBF confidence comes into it and it was low for everyone, perhaps he never had a chance. I understand your view, but personally was very disappointed. I remember Shilton and how he added to our points with his individual brilliance and maybe expected an England international keeper to do the same. I would rate, just quick gut feeling, Shilton, Niemi, Forster (in his peak for us but not always), Flowers as keepers who really made a difference - more than he did. Did he do any better than Boruc, Jones and Beasant did for us? Probably not -
I have only just noticed how young Fellows is, and so how many of out team/ squad are below the age players peak (27 ISH??) Peretz 25 jelert 22 Quashie 21 Wood 23 THB 24 Wellington 25 Charles 22 Jander 22 Fellows 22 Robinson 18 Matsuki 22 Edozie 23 Archer 24 Azaz 25 Maybe well placed for next season's promotion push

When you consider immediately before this run we were 3 defeats in a row, 5 without a win - could anyone realistically have expected any appointment to do better? Personally no. You can only judge with what he has done so far, which is a decent sample now, and it has been an excellent appointment without a doubt.

Is he? Or is it marketing for his anti-islam agenda and a chance to grift , with his normal scrounging?
