We’ve been down since basically October last year Yet we’ve not prepared at all, in any position. It’s actually your expectations that are underwhelming. This transfer window has been horrendous already as we’ve already lost points that we could have easily avoided with even a modicum of squad planning.

If you gave me a salary and made it my full time job to find players for Southampton, I 100% guarantee you I could do a better job than these idiots have been doing since they arrived. It is not difficult to find players better than Sugawara, smallbone, Aribo etc., or see the glaring weaknesses in the squad. Why do Stoke have a better forward line than us, for 5% of the cost? Why did Sunderland assemble a team that is vastly superior to ours without spending a fraction of what we have? Shite leadership. Shite recruitment. Shite owners. They need to do better or sell up.

Of course he can. We have had over 6 months to prepare, we pay scouts and a recruitment team thousands of pounds for this exact job. Most clubs can find players and improve their squad in some way. It should easily be possible for a club with our reputation of improving players and selling them to champions league clubs. Yet we are the only club that gets worse every single window. We are the only team, that when we went up to the PL, the team actually got fucking worse than the championship promotion season.

Jesus Christ. Anyone trying to defend these fucking charlatans needs to give their head a wobble. It’s not “bed wetting” to call out sheer incompetence. The sooner these fucking helmets sell the club, the better.

One major thing for me is that always when we have been at our best, there have been strong on field relationships. Lallana / Lambert, Tadic / Pelle , Fonte / VVD. On the wings, the full backs and wingers build up an understanding - eg. Bertrand and Redmond built up a chemistry. I can go back further and name loads more. Times where players knew each other so well, they instinctively know where each other will be. We just have zero relationships through the team any more, because there has been so much upheaval and so many new managers & players. It’s really worrying tbh as it’s not something that gets sorted quickly. And so many players signed for different strategies

Makes a big difference, sure, but Still effectively wasted preseason imo. He didn’t play this formation or any players consistently in their positions and allow any chemistry to build. How can he expect a coherent team performance when the players are doing something brand new in their first competitive games? Not writing him off, he needs time, but initial my opinion is that he has failed the first test already. Hopefully he is a fast learner.

That’s what I’m trying to work out. I think Archer is probably the best finisher, if we set the team up to counter attack and thread balls into him. But playing the “style” we currently play, we may as well sell him. He isn’t a target man. Can’t hold it up. Doesn’t link play, or bring others into the game. So yeah, I don’t really know. I think Stewart fits the current setup the best, but we all know he’ll play 10 minutes then get injured/ill/not show up. So that’s pointless too. Honestly, I dislike all the options and would be happy to sell all of them tbh. We just need to play a system that gets the best out of our players we have. We seem to do the exact opposite of that since SR arrived.

Sell all of them and start from scratch? Tbh lighthouse does have a valid point. This is the same club that bought the tallest striker in the league and never crossed to him. If we bought Messi we’d probably try pinging balls into the air at him. But which of our current strikers is good enough to warrant building a team around ? Archer?
