This is what I don’t understand. By all accounts Lumley is comfortably better than Long, so why on earth are we deliberately downgrading the ability level of our 3rd choice keeper. May as well have kept Lumley surely. The more you see the transfer movements in and out at this club, the more it becomes apparent that they haven’t a clue what they’re doing. You tend to lose faith in any footballing organisation who goes in to a premier league season with no football expertise at board level and so scratches around for scatter gun transfers between the manager at the time, and a few random board members with no footballing background. Even if that’s somewhat true in isolation , we have heard this every year and every window under this lot: “let’s just wait to see what happens….oh we fucked up again”…..6 months later let’s wait to see how this pans out…..oh look we’ve bollocksed it up again. It’s getting fucking tedious . we aren’t suddenly making season changing signings in the next week. We may make one signing who contributes, but that’ll be your lot. If we don’t get our main targets we will just fill 2-3 extra places with total dross from abroad, probably between the age of 18-21. These owners are incapable.

And to think he was signed to play at premier league level too last season. Absolutely pathetic signing from these chumps yet again. Last years recruitment has to be up there with the worst in premier league history for getting it wrong with almost every single signing.

I honestly reckon that the club expected Stewart to finally be the main man this season so they’ve half arsed it with the Downs signing, complacently thinking we had enough up front now Stewart was back fit so have signed downs to be a bit part player, which is absolutely fucking ridiculous but would explain why we only spent 8m on a position the club desperately needed. Stewart scoring against Arsenal probably lulled these complacent clowns into thinking he was gonna be the main man this season so we only need a substitute striker to beef the options up, rather than an actual top striker for this level: kind of makes sense now in their fucked up way of thinking. whilst these utter losers are in charge we will never fully return to being a regular premier league club, if we ever return at all under them. Absolutely fucking clueless from top to bottom when it comes to identifying the right players for the club to succeed

Our 2 main signings so far look like bench players at best in Quarshie and Downs. I mean we may aswell have kept Tall Paul as sign Downs, who although it’s still early days, looks absolutely fucking useless. His career record to date had me a bit concerned when we signed him, 11 goals in the German second division wasn’t exactly going to excite anyone. And he’s now showing us why . He’s fucking pony, and looks like he doesn’t want to put himself about much either. I am not sure what it is about this club not wanting to sign players who’ve played in the league we are competing in but it’s pissing me off big time. I know we are apparently now trying to sign top end performing championship players but surely that’s we we needed our main striker signing to be. Now we seem to have wasted that on this fucking donkey . I’m speculating as to why you’re defending an ex manager so stoically pal. It’s weird. And it’s weird because he’s clearly a very poor manager but not only that, he’s delusional, constantly passes the Buck either to the players or to previous management regimes for poor results caused solely by the way he sets his teams up, whilst at the same time tries to tell everyone they’re watching a unique and incredible football product in the making, it’s laughable but not quite as laughable as you jumping to defend it at every turn. What’s even more odd than those who follow martins progress just to criticise, are those who spend time blindly defending him and getting personally offended by the criticism of an ex manager that they feel the need to consistently fight his corner. There’s something more to it with you and Martin, clearly knew him personally or something. No other explanation for you sticking up for him to the lengths that you do, as if you were a family member of his.

I think overall, our unrivalled level of shitness last season has duped most of the country into thinking the premier league is now impossible for newly promoted teams to survive. Throw in a very poor Leicester aswell and everyone has just assumed the gulf is too much to bridge: it isn’t. Yes it’s very tough, but with the right tactics and game plan, a togetherness in the squad and some physical presence, You can survive. I also think our “efforts” last season have also been used as a reminder and benchmark about how NOT to run a club when you’ve been promoted. Teams will cast an eye over what we did and do the exact opposite. Let’s not underestimate just how horrifically run and prepared for last season we were. A total disgrace to be honest, with a manager more interested in his own image than the good of the club. This was a saints thing, not a premier league thing. It was vintage sport republic

Let’s be honest, the vast majority of us thought we’d lose today, and fairly comfortably, but to just come here as sitting ducks and just be there for the taking with zero effort or care just sums this lot up. The low standards currently at this club are fucking sickening. Clearly the players think it’s job done for the season now after getting that point last week, so they can return to be as shit and putting in as little effort and desire as possible now for the remaining 2 games. That first half is worse than any league 2 side would’ve produced in this game. Absolute insult yet again to the travelling fans

And this is my point. We lose anyway, I’m not saying go gung ho but surely there’s a balance whereby we can set up to sit deep and counter a little bit surely and have our own attacking plan at certain opportunities during games, instead of just meekly hanging on for dear life every game and accepting narrow defeats when we inevitably concede, with no idea of how we’re going to score ourselves. It’s a total waste of time and terrible viewing. If we were capable defensively of getting 0-0 draws I’d be all for it - but we’re not. The results to date prove that Let’s be honest at half time how many of us expected the score to finish 2-0 or 3-0, or more. Probably the vast majority. That tells you everything you need to know about our lack of attacking intent
