  1. My favourite similar question is the simple 3+4x5, which, appallingly, calculators on many modern smartphones etc get wrong, and many otherwise intelligent people argue over as a result.
  2. This raises the question of whether Birch would be allowing such signings, even for a month , if he were really about to liquidate.
  3. Not that it really mattters, but I think swansea's attendances were abut the same as PFC's in the champinship, and presumably are higher now they are in the PL, so no even that claim is not correct. The trust definitely had 1670 pledges when they submitted their formal bid. The figure may well have risen since then, but their p.r. has always over-hyped the numbers. They were saying 'just under 2000' weeks before the 1670 became public for example. So their claims that many more have signed up recently probably mean they are still around 2000 maximum IMO, or they'd be saying "well over £2 million pledged" instead of claiming merely the £2 million. In any event, fair play to those c 2000, but as a figure for such a "big club", it is not very impressive.
  4. He only said engineering. It's not as if it's proper Maths
  5. Much the same as others have said on here PES, I do genuinely have respect for the efforts that the Trust members have been putting in. And yes, I do applaud the concept of a fan-owned club. It is the lack of realism in what some of their supporters say that causes derision ...and as MLG points out the, yet again, deluded "we're special" arguments, such as claiming to be the biggest or first such club, that causes anger. It is good to have sensible debate with PFC fans on this thread, nonetheless, rather than the sort of nonsense that Banker/Corp Ho used to spout. And I'm pleased that this forum allows it, in contrast to the paranoia on POL. I woud be genuinely interested for example to hear a pompey fan's view on where the trust plans to find the extra £6 million it needs to fund the £8.4 million compromise agreements with the ex-players. (Though I realise that if any PFC fan dares to ask that on POL they will be shouted down and banned as a scummer!)
  6. It may reassure him to hear the old saying. ...... There are 3 kinds of people in this world - those who can count and those who can't.
  7. Would it be condescending of me to point out that the POL poster has misspelt condescending?
  8. I feel such a fool now!
  9. Ah, but would it be a tape, or would you use a rule? Might get a bit of a catenary bend there with a flexible tape, even with near-zero gravity.
  10. You see Schrodinger's cat right in front of you. Though to be fair, Heisenberg is a bit dubious about that. Oh, the old tacky-ones are the best!
  11. So you really were one of the "pompey 17" .. there were only 16 pompey fans on line then -- at most! It's like an Agatha Christie story
  12. Yes, they do apparently. Soon you will have to show your tatoos and prove you own a bell. But watch that the tattoos aren't spelt correctly or they'll find you out.
  13. I think the point they are missing is that there are rarely fewer than 200 online at any time on saints web, which is the comparative figure with their 17. Still -- pack the Park eh?
  14. I reckon 4.73 x 10 ^15 km to 3 sig figs. I took a year as 365 1/4 days which is not dead accurate but I think close enough for the sig figs in answer. May have to pace it out to be sure though!
  15. I was!
  16. That Frattoniser bloke protests too much if you ask me. He sounds as if he is foaming at the mouth! It's like someone who goes on and on about hating gays .. you know that deep down he is actually very insecure in his own sexuality. I'm beginning to think that Frattoniser is really a closet saints fan. He just is frightened to admit it to himself. (Or have I just inadvertently outed one of us who has been in 'deep cover' for months? ---sorry) I still can't get over how few posters there are on POL. Surely there must be some bigger forum somewhere? I know we call them the blue few, but ....
  17. Yes, that's fine. On the basis of that firm guarantee, I will now buy a football club.
  18. No. You've got that back to front. A fiver there equates to nearly £2million in pompey pledge sums, but no one expects you to actually pay it.
  19. Errrm given the OP said "former/present youth players are currently active in professional football above conference level." ....I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned James Ward-Prowse etc! Looking at that list, it reminds me how hard it is to judge the potential young players. I thought Kayne McLaggon was going to be as good as Walcott, and he's only just about playing in the FL, in fact he went non-league for while didn't he?
  20. Yes but pompey claim it does not mean that they can sign for anyone else after they leave. They'd be stuck in limbo, unemployed and unemployable, until the January window opened. It can't be correct though, surely? After all clubs can loan players in that time. It would surely be a 'restraint of trade' ?
  21. More seriously this is exactly the sort of option they should be exploring.. Liquidate PFC (2010/2011/2012/or whatever it is now, ltd) and set up a new club , initially ground-sharing with Havant or whoever, then building a small (say 6-10k?) stadium somewhere else with council help, as they climb back up the non-league to maybe one day re-entering the FL, say by about year 2020, and then stabilising as a lower division team, and then maybe even with occasional exciting short forays into the championship for the odd year when things go really well.
  22. Are you sure he didn't just hear something about pompey going to the dogs ?
  23. I believe it was I who first suggested £1 million a year in rent (though no doubt someone will correct me!) What I hadn't realised was that Chainrai is obviously a forum member and got the idea from here. Ought I to get commission? And which user name is BC's I wonder?
  24. I know exactly which posters you mean!
  25. That does not exempt them from TPS rules. If a Uk-based company, report them. I've done this before now. It does have an effect. The only excuse Uk companies can use is if you are already a customer with them, and they are supposedly talking to you about your contract or similar. It's the ones from abroad that you can't control, since they are outside the TPS's area.
