39 without loss after ten overs - come on boys...

Doubt there'll be the dreaded inspectors' visit, as both teams made half-decent scores in their first innings. The highest innings total in the Kent/Durham match was 146, and the game was all but over after two days.

I guess they'll have their big league preview in the paper tomorrow - it'll be interesting to see if it's the same as the blog.

Squeaky bum time now methinks...
-
98-9 now, Balcombe got Hoggard. And that's lunch...

Looking that way! Forecast is appalling, so hope we can wrap it up today.

OMG - 52-4! Lyth out lbw first ball. Tomlinson on a hat-trick then...
-
Know what you mean. Yorkshire's young leg-spinner took seven of our first-innings wickets, so I hate to think what he might do in the fourth innings if the pitch has worn further...

If every poster on the forum started agreeing with Scooby, he'd have to find another forum to post on!

I never took part in any of the debates at that time, as I was living in Newcastle and saw very few matches (well, almost none really). I therefore didn't feel myself to be qualified to express an opinion either way. But I remember reading a lot of the threads. One thing I don't recall from them was seeing anybody (Bournemouth Saint, Sad Old Git, whoever) suggesting that Burley was god's gift to management. They defended him, yes, but they never put him on that sort of pedestal. Whatever - those mentioned are adults and can stand up for themselves. As I said, I have no axe to grind in this matter, but it does seem to me that if you base your argument so strongly on a distortion of your opponents' views then it loses a great deal of its force. And, as others have already asked, why the hell drag this up now?

Well if that was what was expected of him can you blame him?

I'll show my arse in Woolies!

All square on first innings then...

Well, all of those had enjoyed success at top-level clubs, Mourinho in particular. Wenger was the least known at the time of his appointment, as he'd been out in Japan for a few seasons, but he did have a good record with Monaco. And there was considerable bewilderment among press and others (I remember Ian Wright's 'Arsene who?' comment) when he was appointed. I'm not arguing in favour of Sky Sports here, by the way - the whole thing smacked of lazy journalism to me. But then that always seems to be the way with analysis (such as it is) of anything below the Premiership...

Just had a look at the page, and I notice that in the 'Related Links' section we've gone missing from the 'More Teams' drop-down list. Most odd...

I like that - it should framed and hung on the wall of anybody foolish enough still to believe that administration would in some way benefit Saints!

Which is why Poortvliet's employers took the case to the Dutch FA, and he had to pay compensation to them (his employers). Yep, he was truly unwanted. The appointment of Shearer might bring initial excitement because he's a big name, but let's face it: he's a crap TV pundit who makes a living by repeating everything Alan Hansen says. Manager material? I don't think so.

By gad, sir - I think you've cracked it!

Is that a typo? Do you mean that you know what Digger knows, or that you know that he knows something?

Not being pretty is one thing, looking like an extra from Deliverance quite another.

Think Martin Jol, but without the distinctly scary resemblance to Tony Soprano. So, plenty of odd-shounding eshesh in hish shpeech I'd think - it'sh a Dutch thing...

Yes, but has he coughed up his fiver yet?

Fair point - didn't he do well against the likes of Sri Lanka and India though?
