Stuart Pearce confirmed as GB Olympic Football manager
Colinjb replied to Colinjb's topic in General Sports
Tactically yes, that's my point, the way he has embraced modern coaching and sports science methods to maximise the ability of his players has worked in his favour but just like Stuart Pearce he has the tactical nous of a water vole. As for who I would prefer, good question. I personally think we are far too focused on needing people with 'club experience' in this country, managing a national side is so different to a club side that it should be considered it's own niche. I would want an ex-player (or close to retirement) to come in and manage the team. Someone with immediate reputation who can command the respect of the younger players who would just want to see them out there playing and able to express themselves, not oppress the nippers with tactical overkill. So for me a David Beckham or Gary Neville type. If we needed someone with more experience, Glenda. -
Surprised he hadn't fled the country. At least he showed a little honour by staying.... just a little.

Knowing a lot about football and coaching methods/tactics will give you an idea of what is required, but it requires the right application to work. As a player, yes, he was excellent for his country but as a coach he is everything that england should be looking to get away from. Sam Allardyce is also one of the most knowledgable and progressive managers in the country, but the football he delivers is absolute drivel. -
Quite, it seems to me that it's trying to force any nipper with a modicum of talent into these new 'category' academies. Therefore it can surely only create a bigger log-jam of talent at the higher levels and result in many more kids being ruined by not having the chance of first team football at the clubs there are members of. The only way out of this would be loaning the players out (thus defeating the object of an academy managing their progress) or setting smaller clubs up as a reserve or feeder club in a lower league. (Real Madrid Castilla for example.) Either way, it will decimate youth development in the lower leagues. I couldn't care less that it works in our favour, it will help to destroy grass roots football in this country.

Oh jesus, just what has this utter drongo done to merit such a high profile role? He is a tactical numbnuts who couldn't generate winning football in a million years. I was looking forward to the olympic football tournament but now it'll almost certainly end up as a dire repeat of the last u21 campaign.

Not that he's bitter after seeing 'The Academy' getting tought a footballing lesson.

Typical London club bias.

Nigel Adkins......best manager we've had since Ted Bates?
Colinjb replied to Kaiser Soze's topic in The Saints
If he can take us up to the premiership and keep us there then he will be the best in my lifetime. -
I also noticed a West Ham player and Saints player squaring up to each other at the final whistle. Looked like they had to be seperated by one of our coaches.

I'll take the less then 1 in 200 chance as near as damn-it a certainty. I wonder what Dalek thinks of the equally 'zero' odds of us finishing 17th.
-
A ZERO percent chance of relegation. 38% chance of winning the title and 64.8% chance of promotion. Life right now is extremely good.
-
Oh lord yes. Far too soon.
-
I would hope that a purchase fee would have already been agreed.
-
Meaningless. Both are doing a great job and neither club would want to lose their incumbent.
-
Fascinating as always. Hooiveld sounded a class apart on the radio but Chaplow's hard work made an unheard but definite impact. His strongest game for us would we say?
-
We have half time entertainment? I thought it was for grabbing a beer and check the other HT scores.

'Hammered'

Good to hear! But then you have had time to get used to it.
-
14 points ahead and they are apparently about to appoint Ian Dowie. Life is good!!!!
-
Looking forward to listening to Talksport tomorrow. Hear what that snivelling arrogant fool 'The Moose' thinks of that!
-
Just pray that he is more of a Chaplow then a Saganowski.

Reading 2-2 Derby, Full Time. We are FIVE, yes, FIVE F**KING POINTS CLEAR!!!!
-
Our most important win since Brighton last year. I'm starting to believe we are the real deal, that's bloody dangerous!
-
I would have to agree.
