Absolutely! And just imagine what it could do if it was run properly!!!

Considering the current price of aviation fuel, air travel may become unsustainable in the near future anyway. Why invest in something potentially duff in a few years time.

Interesting that we are at an all time low and are attracting crowds of 14k or so. The Skates, during their leaner times of the mid nineties struggled to break averages of 10k. Purely an observation. How will they manage to quadrouple their fanbase in little over a decade?

Neither did we. I would suggest having the capital on your doorstep (70 miles to drive to Fulham yes, but it's really not a huge distance) makes one heck of an impact. Far more then you are guessing. And regardless of the short term success achieved by overspending, to the casual it'll be far more appealling to 'support' the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, who only take an hour or so to reach by train and can be followed easily in the media. Many people follow football to soothe their own egos, not because they have a genuine love for football or their local team. When the financial buble bursts (as it almost certainly will at some stage, not just for you lot, football is unsustainable, like many other parts of the economy) leisure industries will be the first to suffer. Football clubs are a decadence and when the plug is pulled Portsmouth, like many others will plummet, and the more traditional bigger clubs who have fanbases to support their teams will be back to where they should be. Not saying that Saints are one of them, but there are much bigger clubs in this country then you lot.

Be patient, you'll get your fix soon enough.
-
I'm sure that was meant sarcastically.

Just have to look at clubs like Middlesborough and Blackburn, who are arguably bigger. They struggle to get 23k (Blackburn v ARSENAL FFS!!) and 27k (Boro v the Baggies.) So 40k is completely unrealistic. And these clubs are European finalists and former premiership winners. Assuming the Skates have a fanbase of the same scale as a former premiership winner then that would be 6k extra per game. Not enough to justify a whole new stadium.

There are a few pubs on Longford Road which are quite alright. There is also the Cherrytree club just down the road (the other side of Tesco car park at the end of Lythalls lane) and other pubs a few minutes walk of the Ricoh the opposite side of the A444. It is a few miles from the city centre, but to say it's in the middle of nowhere is a little unfair. (That it is a 5 minute taxi ride from my own house also helps!) If you want a good pub for Ale try Whitefriars in the city centre. If anyone wants any further advice on a good pub do drop me a line. If you're driving do stay clear of the residential streets in the vicinity of the stadium as all cars need permits.

Well, the pubs need all the help they can get at the moment.

The team in spirit died that season. If we ever get close to how we where in 03/04 I'll die a happy man.

Who needs to apply. There are many voiciferous individuals here, let them state their opinons regularly and openly. I'm sure many would love it. Invite them in!

Completely agree. And Scooby as well.

Oh noes! If they are not with me they are against me. You are pathetic. F*ck this pro lowe, anit Lowe bullsh*t, the board room scum are all as bad as each other. Get a grip. It's a fans perogative to take a detached view of things. After all, without our money, they would be screwed. And who can blame a few of the more dissilussioned souls who saw their team die back in 04/05 be less likely to buy tickets now the same bloke is back steadying the ship.

Flumps are made from Marshmallow, HTH.

And Saints Web is up and running properly! Good work!
-
But you said that all fans should support the club at all levels. Regardless of personal prejudice (and calling someone something as deplorable as cancer surely implies HEAVY prejudice.) Finally, frank admission that you are no fan of Southampton Football Club!
-
Like you have done for the last two years.
-
I wonder what would happen if Lowe did ever go away without trace. Would he still be a 'fan' of Southampton F.C?
-
It's a fair point, the lack of fitness and discipline is the key for me though. He didn't have a pre season to get them back where they needed to be, but he near enough did it, while under full pressure, media glare and expectation. Jan has had a full pre season. It's a pointless debate now though either way, we have what we have, lets deal with it.

Considering the state Dodd and Gorman had left them in, I can.
-
It is a pity. Had some good times there. #sobs# What took you there? Morbid curiosity?
-
Haha Would get better odds on Good triumphing over evil on Lord of the Ring's tonight.

Put it on Sebastien Vettel to finish on the Podium tomorrow in Singapore.

It's nice to deal in shades of grey isn't it. How does the proverb go, 'If you are not with me, you are against me.'
