I'm ok with that line up. Especially AM in goal. Best of a dodgy bunch at least.

This 100% - we will do better with AM as first choice, it's that simple.

Fair play to the defence, pretty decent performance that. But still don't know where the goals are coming from. We look shot of any confidence in the box. -
Liverpool 2-1 Saints - Match Thread

I suspect all tonight will 'show us' is that we desperately needed a decent, seasoned centre back...and a striker. -
Some insightful and intelligent comments on this thread..WTF is going on! I agree it's a much bigger issue than the manager but I voted sack him, mainly for the drama. Can we do this again after tomorrow night's game. It's fun - in a kind of masochistic way 😄

Considering they haven't learned from the start against Pompey this is really worrying. Suggests players either don't understand what Still wants or they don't trust his tactics.
-
McCarthy has his faults but surely he's a better option than Baz. Not aware our play is based on the keeper passing out so McCarthy should get the nod.
-
Quite possible. I remember one of the Man Utd players was often out through illness and finally was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis which is a horrible condition. Sadly sports people aren't immune from developing debilitating long term conditions. I hope that's not the case for Flynn.
-
That's interesting for sure. I still question his lack of experience. I'm really hoping he can prove that isn't a problem.

Feels like so much depends on Still. I've seen a few comments saying he should go if we lose at Hull which seems premature - but - with it looking like we've signed some decent players, the pressure is definitely on him. I was underwhelmed by his appointment because I think you have more chance of promotion from this league with an experienced manager (Stats people welcome to prove me wrong). I'm sure he'd like more time to bed in the new players and create a style (No sign of a style yet) but football is unforgiving and he just doesn't have that luxury given expectations should be play offs at least. So, I agree that wins are needed fast starting with Saturday. I would give him until Christmas as I think you can still make a play off charge from then provided you're mid table - but like you I'm not convinced it'll happen and I'm not convinced Still has the experience to take us forward.

It's amazing how strong a bond football can give us. I still pause and look towards my Dad's seat in the Kingsland at the start of a game, even though he's been gone a while now. One of my son's strongest memories is his Grandad holding his hand as he walked him up the steps to see the pitch emerge for his first Saints game, aged five. Let's beat those shit eating hovel dwellers and send them back under the rocks they emerge from.

I think that's right but our CFs seem to be lacking in confidence given the lack of conversion - so I guess what I mean is it feels like we need to produce even more chances or more quality chances more often, for them to actually hit the net. Hopefully that will change as they score more and gain confidence in their own game.
-
I definitely thought it was getting too late for signing the quality we did but I also think plenty have expressed a genuine concern that key positions haven't been addressed, namely GK and CB. CF will only be a problem if the new system doesn't deliver more chances and the midfield don't pitch in with a few goals. So good window yes, but some gaps that may need to be addressed in January.
-
Agree with a 6.5. Interested to know who folks think should be our main two CBs because I can't see a combination that isn't going to give the opposition easy chances.
-
He's been told you can't drink water from the tap in Southampton 😅
-
Confidence looks shot to pieces. He might improve with better service but we should have shifted him out when we were promoted to the PL. Don't think he will return to the form he showed last time in the Championship. Hopefully there are enough goals to come from across the team.
-
Need another full back and an experienced CB before the window closes cos this defence is not getting us promoted. Also worth remembering that Still is an inexperienced manager in a tough league and may also prove lacking in terms of his first season at least. I'd be happy with 5 from 12 if we were in the PL but not good enough in the Championship. We've seen some good signings this week but not confident it will be enough to get us near to promotion.
-
My family are ginger which means we're related to both of them and I'm telling you know, it's gonna happen.
-
Give us a break! Long way to go midweek too. Oh well.
-
Let's hope that means winning both Home and Away.
-
Got TBH I like the look of this guy. Good positioning, wins headers, gets forward and quite vocal. I can't believe I'm saying this but SR might actually have bought us a decent player. I feel dirty.
-
I'm not sure people are saying it's just negative, but that we want to see less about very small and relatively insignificant activity and more focus on the critical signings that Saints need and for which they have had months to sort out. Because if SR don't do the latter, we're screwed and these deals mean nothing.
-
I get your point but ultimately if we're being lied to/misled that is a real concern. Witnessed that first hand with Wilde and his muppets all those years ago and that didn't end well.
-
Feels like they'll be no more incomings until the Dibling money is secured. I thought Dragan stated money would be available for key positions without the need for money coming in from player sales - or have I misinterpreted/imagined that?
-
Isn't part of the problem that we're still debating what to do with AA when he should have gone the moment we were promoted to the PL, given they already knew he wasn't good enough at that level. For me he's the epitomy of everything that's wrong with SR transfer policies. They have created their own mess and don't seem to know how to get out of it despite the appointment of Spors.
