No big guns on the bench then as a just in case scenario crops up. I can't fathom out why we aren't taking this match seriously. 5 days before we play Manure, and then a blank weekend. Our only realistic shot at Europe A win, no matter who against is always good, our 2nd X1 losing wouldn't do morale any good at all for fans or players. I definitely read the question incorrectly judging by the replies. I read it as the best players we saw when we were youngsters, not the players themselves!! Not necessarily players who went onto Great things but a few Debuts stand out for me. Stevie Williams debut at Skatesmuff, promoted up the order due to a bit of over indulgence by some of the senior pros after beating palace in the semis a few days earlier! Very assured despite the electric atmosphere and late notice that he was going to play. Nicky Banger - Hat trick debut in League Cup against Bury ? Just about the high point of his career. Of course Alan Shearer's hat trick scoring debut is much better known. Probably still the youngest Top League debut hat trick ever. Also making it even more remarkable was being against Arsenal who just didn't let goals in back then!! Probably the most successful ex Saint player. Two more Goal scoring debuts by youngsters that i have seen were Graham Baker - he scored in under a minute on his debut and the game was on MOTD later on that day (remembering this is long before Sky, so us being on MOTD was a rare treat!!). Can playing for Man City count as success? It would nowadays!! And one last debut goal scorer - Bobby Stokes - scored twice on his debut V Burnley ?. Of course he didn't need to move to be a great success - scoring that Cup winning goal puts him in terms of achievment on a plane above most Saints players. RIP little man.

Only time I went to Reading was back in 75. Brilliant line up including many of my favourite bands of the time including Yes, Hawkwind, Supertramp, Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, Caravan, Climax Blues Band, Mahavisnu Orchestra, Robin Trower, Dr Feelgood and many more. P!ssed down with rain during the Yes set but the low stratus really added to the laser show effects. Our tent colapsed due to the weight of rain that built up on it (we were p!ssed when we put it up and it was dark as well and none of us had been camping before!!). None of us could be bothered or were capable of moving so we slept inside a colapsed tent with our feet dangling out the ends!! We used to walk into town and get washed in the gents at Marks & Spencers each morning!! Happy Days.

Well that went well didn't it? Have said many times that the pressure on us to win this game (as opposed to the other 3 games) could prove to be too much. We looked flat, slow and ponderous today. Too many hopeful long balls - what happened to all the diamonds in midfield, too much sloppy give aways and not enough fight back. Maybe a Chaplow or Hammond type midfielder was missing today. Een after this shambles it wouldnt surprise me in the least if we get at least a draw v Man U. But there again 0-4 wouldn't surprise me either.

Dare I ask what score you predicted before I head off to the pub?
