I thought Thedelldays was on a wind-up mission with this mod application lark. I don't want to get into the business of character assassination, so being as delicate as I can be, TDD - did you really think you had a chance? You're rude to certain people because you don't like them, engaging in name calling, attacking poster instead of the post. Those are the qualities of a bully, not a moderate. Assuming this isn't a wind-up, why do you want to be a mod anyway?

I have long been of the view that we need a wow signing for the rest to fall into place. This is that signing, and if we can manage this one, it puts us in a much better position to get more top quality players in.

Well, sorta - but a bit tragic for the current mods and any of the people applying to be one. Current mods just look weak, and I know they will probably say "how can we stop them?". Answer is twofold. 1) Keep banning, even if the person stumps up a fiver. Ok, millionaires could troll here with reckless abandon, but I suspect most normal trolls would soon f*ck off back under their bridges when the Pot Noodle and Kleenex budget starts to look a bit thin. 2) Stop handing out infractions, and just ban people who are seriously out of order and delete posts which are borderline. I suspect most people who've applied on this thread are about as serious about their applications as the mods are on permanent bans. I think they know that without the forum antagonists, site will look like no-one is posting on it. Lest it look like I'm mod-bashing without qualification, I do appreciate the fact that they let discussions develop on here and that a lot of stuff is let go. I even found dune's posts amusing, and part of me is guiltily pleased that he'll do his wind-up act once more. That all said, the fact that there's no real follow through makes the moderation, and this application thread a bit of a joke.

The bans on here are crap. You can be as much of a nob as you like as long as you're prepared to pay another fiver. Then we get the spectacle of the self-same person embroiled in an "am I / aren't I" cock tease. So the bannee comes back anyway, gets more attention and a new identity. Only the names have been changed to protect the guilty. Really, the ad should read "prissy control freak required to generate revenue for Fiver Mountain". That would at least be accurate.

The glaring problem with TDD's moderator application is a complete lack of moderation. Add to the fact that he'll probably ban people and then not tell you why it happened, and it's a recipe for disaster. Btw - Danbert - you're very kind mate, but if I'm completely honest, humility and common sense not something I can consistently promise, especially not on here

No interest in the position myself, for several reasons 1) It's a bit like wanting to be a Special Constable. 2) stevegrant thinks I'm "dune of the left", or alternatively - a communist Cheese on Toast. Not really sure I'd fancy taking orders from him. 3) I'd rather obtain authority from my posts than a few upgraded permissions. Don't know if that's working exactly, but gotta try. 4) I know feck all about footy compared to some of the luminaries on the main board.

Been travelling a lot this week, so haven't really had time to watch much of the Olympics. I did watch Jade Jones win the Taekwondo last night. Another quite unexpected medal, and no-one can say she didn't deserve it. Beat two of the world's best to do it. Only nineteen too. So very proud of all of our Olympians. It been a pleasure to see them in action. Superb role models for the nippers too.
