Don't worry about John Sheridan losing his job. He's lined up for one hell of a promotion in 2261.

Nice. Will give the more obvious first teamers and the youngsters a lot of confidence. Lee played the 90 minutes too. Encouraging.

With the politicians away on their summer hols and SaintsWeb fully invested in the potential transfer of Gaston Ramirez, little consideration has been given to matters Parliamentary. Nick Clegg is in the news today, proposing an emergency time-limited tax on the wealthy to get the country out of the sh!te. Guardian article here:- http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/aug/28/nick-clegg-emergency-tax-britains-weathiest Good idea, or populist nonsense that'll see more of our mega-wealthy move shiploads of cash out of the economy?

Poor poor Cov. Could have been us. Clusterf*ck.

I am going to re-train at a later stage and move into teaching or lecturing. I'd do it now, except I have two kids to sort first. Can't afford to put the career on gardening leave.

Some employers might take the hump and have restrictive post-termination covenants in place. Not sure that they are enforceable though. Fairly sure that Dr Who's right to work will trump any of that.

I was nicked for drunk in charge years ago. All spent now. Problem with drink driving is that no-one sets out to do it. No-one was hurt, but made a stupid mistake, and paid for it. With a bit of distance, probably one of the best things hat happened to me. Happened in my mid 20s. Thought I was invincible. Quick trip to the beak, fine, 6 month ban and seven years of having to declare yourself a criminal is not fun.

If I recall the Lee incident correctly, we had already been knocked back for the initial work permit and had already lodged the appeal based on Lee's potential contribution to the game. No way will this one fail at wp stage.

Been in this situation myself, but wasn't actually looking for a career change at the time. Next steps? Really depends on the money mate. If it's enough to see you through re-training, and you're fairly certain of a job afterward, it's a good investment. Otherwise I'd find another job ASAP so you can benefit from the lump sum.

Have some mates who do this, including one who has recently been dumped and/or sh4t on by her hubby. Right now, seeing a lot of updates concerning God or her apologising for meddling in other people's affairs (presumably inspired by God).

Mark Lawrenson gets beaten on his BBC predictions game by celebrity armchair football enthusiasts far too frequently for an expert. The "Ramirez not going to Southampton" thing might be another prediction he got wrong*. * I have 27 chickens

A season finale to report on. I've just seen the end of True Blood. Really don't want to spoil anything but a superb end to a great season. The show has always been very good. Seems that they have really hit their stride this year. Really looking forward to next year now. If you haven't seen it and are a bit apprehensive because of the vampires (they do seem to be everywhere), my advice is plough in regardless. It's a broad sexy supernatural canvas. They really do justice to everything they introduce, but I find the vampire stuff to be amongst the best. They're public knowledge (introduced in pilot, spoiler-avoiders), so the politics that surround that make for a completely different treatment to the super-secret creatures of the night. Highly recommended if you are not yet on it.

I've seen the episode. SuperMikey has spoiled very little. Think most are actually quite sensitive to your needs. Anyway, my non-specific take on this week's Breaking Bad, and the show in general. The showrunners have a reputation for providing killer openings. This one is arguably the best yet. Major payoff for the fans, and despite everything that our protagonist has done, couldn't help feeling mightily impressed. Very little of the domestic situation being shown at the moment. This could be the point of the show where it becomes "all crime, all the time". Once again, the show is beautifully shot. I'm a real sucker for a wide-angle; there are a lot of them in this show and the New Mexico backdrop is a willing and glamourous accomplice. Best thing on TV at the moment. Everything else feels like hamburger to its steak.

Desperate housewives, mate. Say no more.

Still mates with a lot of people from school. Think we've had 15 and 20 year reunions, and it's not really a big deal. Most of us can still get in contact with each other easily. Not sure I'd agree with angelman's sentiment that the dickheads are still dickheads. Yeah, that'll be true in some cases, but a lot of people did stupid sh!t when they were at school through pure immaturity. That 16-20 period sharpens a lot of people up. Not all, unfortunately.

They've used the nuclear ban, but it's not really nuclear. Those they drop it on mutate and come back as someone different.

I've noticed a lost of posts being "disappeared" lately. All a bit 1984 I reckon, except Winston Smith didn't like his job much (to start with, anyways). However, I prefer to think of it as the new mods riding into a bad town in the manner of sheriffs. It's not nearly as sinister.
-
Bless ya TDD, they are building a base of super-villainy, known as Fiver Mountain. Several easily defendable points, each with a manned infraction cannon. If the sh!t hits the fan, they can drop the nuclear ban, but it's not as deadly as you'd think.

I have never been, Turks. I see they have Stevie Wonder, Florence and The Machine and New Order headlining this year. Are they all going to the IoW to call each other c*nts? If so, that is an intriguing clash of styles. Might just get me over to the Isle of Wight again.
-
I really like the idea of a Ramirez off topic thread. Feels a bit like a fringe venue, where instead of discussing the merits of the transfer, it's more about calling each other c*nts and suchlike. This would be a red button option on any digital channel. For c*nts.

He likes his llamas, that's for sure. I've got most of the stuff he has released for iOS. Gridrunner is probably the fave so far, although Caverns of Minos is good and f*cking hatstand. I feel you might be right.

Haven't had time to properly address the content of this thread, but some very good shouts. Jonnyboy - very pleased to see a Plus4 owner on here. As a C16 owner, I was always miffed that I could not play Icicle Works or Treasure Island on my C16, but even so, I felt we were an exclusive, thoroughly sh4t upon section of the early 1980s computer scene. You Plus4 owners had very few exclusive games, while we C16 owners had to put up with whatever software houses could be bothered shovelling onto the system. It was normally pants. Seeing the p!ss-poor Konami Arcade Collection (awesome on C64) finally brought the "you need a C64 now!" message home quite strongly. Great to see all the shouts for Sensible Soccer. SWOS in particular was amazing. Ashamed to say that my first act as Southampton manager was to part exchange Matty for Stan Collymore. Don't blame me. Sensi was ruthlessly about speed, and poor Matty didn't have any.
