This is Pardew's team and with just one lucky deflected goal at home this season, no pace, no movement, no width Cortese was right to get shot of him. It's clear we need someone that knows how to motivate decent players and to come up with plans B and C when required.

I haven't seen any evidence yet that this team will so any better than play off fringes next season. I make the assumption that some of our better players will be tempted away to a higher level during the summer so there's still going to be a need to look to bring in new blood. Now that this season is over bar a day out at Wembley perhaps April would be a good time to start thinking very seriously about the personnel required to make the top two next time out. I suspect NC will be pondering along similar lines.

Strange really. By half time Saints could have been out of sight even with those Swindon geezers working pretty hard. Their only real chance in that half came when Austin missed a sitter. Second half the game turned on its head as Swindon decided to pass the ball and take the game to Saints. Perhaps they reckoned our boys were a bunch of fancy dans that couldn't take the pressure but they certainly had Saints lads chasing shadows for a while there although they really didn't create too much in front of goal. I really think the pressure got to Saints in the end and it was only when they gave up on the hoofball and tried to get the ball wide that any progress was noticed towards the end, despite the feeble crossing efforts of James. Ok so we now have a Wembley trip to look forward to but that isn't going to be a walk in the park. After that the season will drift to a close and then we have to hope we don't lose too many in the transfer window. As for next season, I'm not sure why so many think Saints will walk the league. On present evidence it might be a struggle to make the playoffs. Still at least the football is better than last season.
