So now Le Fondre starts missing chances. Typical!

Has my clock stopped?

I feel better now.

Too much action at the wrong end.

It is a worrying recent trend.

A third would be nice.

Isn't it about time Saints gave someone a tonking?
-
Just what I'd been hoping for.

Good start and nice to see Jos get one on target at last.

Where will the radio listeners be tonight be tonight and how will we cope?
obelisk replied to AndyD's topic in The Saints
At home in Reading with the radio off. I can't stand radio commentaries 'cos they always sound as if Saints are under the cosh. Will lurk on this board and try to keep calm. -
Personally I think it's a great idea to get a bookie to stump of the cash that will help to cheer me up should we have to suffer the play-off lottery. I also look on it as an investment in Saints getting promoted because my bets virtually never result in any winnings. Also, it's not really putting money on another team is it? I'm backing Saints to finish 3rd. Hopefully I'm wrong as usual.

It was nice to get a few quid on Saints to drop into the play-offs at 16/1. I (almost) never win when I place a bet, but should the worst happen my bar bill for drowning of sorrows will at least be covered.

It doesn't help when the radio reminds us that Reading will be promoted if they win and WHU don't. Matchday and trying to remain calm. I know that Saints are more than capable of picking up 3 points today. All it requires is some clinical finishing (AL please find your shooting boots), quick passing (getting robbed in midfield is an original sin), concentration in defence to cut out those mistakes (remember that the opposition players are allowed to lurk on the edge of the penalty area). Best of luck to those travelling today.

How long do you avoid football sites when things go t1ts up??

Actually if we are 3-0 up inside 20 minutes I might be thinking it's a bit too early to be celebrating - even 3-0 with 10 minutes to go still has me slightly pertubed. Plenty of time to get back at us and all that, especially given Saints history. I'll try and keep any negative thoughts to myself though. -
I suppose it would be too much to have expected Saints to have promotion wrapped up by now even given the early season form. Oh well, onward we go and I'm trying to remain relaxed about it all but it's likely the churning will begin once again as tomorrow moves towards evening. Looking positively, I think I'd prefer to be facing a dodgy looking Peterboro at their place rather than popping over to Bristol City - and Reading are due a screw up some time. A win for Saints and an admittedly unlikely defeat for the Royals will have us back on top. If I allow any negative thoughts of a defeat to enter my head then the worst that can happen is that we'll be 3rd on goal difference with a couple of games left and West Ham playing after Saints Saturday efforts are shown to all on TV. Ok that's quite a grim thought but I'll deal with it if it happens. Come to think of it, there's actually quite an advantage to WHU in kicking off their penultimate game 2 days after Saints. Unless, of course, Saints manage to bag 6 points this week - something that IS within the realms of possibility.

Perhaps he wouldn't have been caught fannying around with the ball inside his own half just before Reading broke away for their 2nd. Or if he had he'd have chopped his opponent down and taken a yellow for the team. Possibly!

This is what I keep trying to remind myself of. It's a sort of que sera sera thing I guess because there's pretty much nothing those of us that witter on here can do about it other than offer absolute support for the remaining 3 games. As long as the players are seen to offer us their best (and try to be better) then I'm cool with that. I'm pretty sure that there are highs and lows yet to come and if Saints end up outside the top two for the first time on the last day then I'll probably be yelling "bottlers" too - until I calm down and move on to the play-offs. The post mortems and exchange of opinions is all part of why we love the game isn't it? Sure I'll be gutted if Saints screw up after all the good work this season but I shall attempt to keep it all in perspective. It's better for my health. One hundred years ago more than 500 Southampton residents had a truly dreadful day. At least we have next season.

The whole team performance has been somewhat lacking since November. Admittedly we're still in the sort of position I'd have dreamed of at the start of the season but after the performances up 'til that time I'm somewhat disappointed to not already be celebrating promotion.

WHU level with us by next weekend. :-(

Unless they score a hatful and Saints concede more than 1 or 2. Not likely but not impossible. -
If we weren't chasing the game then I suppose you could say he did well enough in parts. Average at best I'd say given the circumstances and the job he was given.
-
Sums it up well enough. Jos's finishing is currently dreadful. I expect him to bury any clear headers he gets on Tuesday.
-
Perhaps it was the haircut. Has he got time to grow a moustache?

I've been saying that for weeks. Just shows what I know. -
I had assumed that Fonte had been nudged under the ball. Hard to see in any of the camera angles but you have to say it was a clinical finish. If only Jos had been that clinical.
-
After getting that equaliser I assumed Saints would go for it and for a few minutes they did. Reading looked worried they might get overrun and with some calmer finishing things might have gone Saints way. But Saints returned to the laboured slow build up, never really got behind them and took to lumping it into the box. Thinking about it, I can't really remember too much that Federici had to worry about from then on. Even at 1-2 with 15 minutes left there didn't seem to be anything in the way of urgency. It feels like a mugging but is it really? Reading were quick on the break and absolutely clinical in punishing individual mistakes. Perhaps Saints will do the business in the next 2 away matches but recent omens make me slightly perturbed. Let's see what happens at Upton Park tomorrow.
