If you are serious and if you were doorstepping me, then you sir may just have earned yourself my vote. I spent a few years fighting and standing up for the rights of the less well of and those who didn't have the confidence to argue their point. You know what, I got fed up with getting fed up in the end and I too eventually lowered my socialist trade unionist head below the parapet. If we are going to start somewhere, then I wouldn;t argue against the 'specilas' I don;t however beleiev that this initiative is athe start of anything along the lines that you are suggesting. I think it's a cheap (your words) headline grabber but I disagree with it on principle. Their are more needy people in our midst that they could start with.

I know exactly where you are coming from I really do Ponty. There is a danger here though, if we all get to nominate a 'deserving' cause for a bit of charity, and that is that the nominations would be endless. I for one could name a dozen deserving job/careers that I think should be rewarded more than they currently are. For example and returning to the volunteer sector for one moment. I would like to see any volunteer who gives over 500 hours of their time to registered charities given free access to local public transport, not just to and from their place of work but a 100% gratis travel card 365 days a year. I would also like to offer free local transport to under 18's, serioudly, I think it would ingrain in our young citizens the value of such systems and the more they are used the more indendent they would be as they reach adulthood, thus negating their parents apparent NEED to drive everywhere. I have over the past couple of years had to call upon the services of our police force and on occasion worked with specials, I know how valuable their contribution to local communities is. I keep coming back to this question though, sorry - Why just them?

Not being provocative here honest Ponty, but are you a special yourself? If what you say is true about the job being tough is true (I am certainly not disagreeing with you - I wouldnt do it mate) then will the tax break encourage more to join up? Also, from what I have seen they go around in two's so that doubles the cost. At the end of the day have they requested this or is it just a council initiative, if so who's idea was it? Also, whatever they are they are volunteers and once you start to reward a volunteer to this level they cease to become volunteers in my boook. It's a dangerous path to tread I reckon.

No real consolation I know but i am sure i read somewhere today something along the lines of "IF the club receive an additional allocation.....blah blah.." Now then , I messed up big time and all my own stupid fault, but missed the boat completely - both semi's etc.... I have been told categorically that there will not be any further tickets, but there is hope yet it would appear.

Trumping into ones hand and throwing it in ones partners face can raise a giggle on occasion.

I'm assuming that by 'replacing' you are saying that there is already an electric hob in situ? Surely if he isolates the consumer unit it's as simple as re-wiring a plug? I do not know what I am talking about but am thinking out loud. It's quite probable that that is how I would do it. Feel free to ignore this advice.

Batesy, a word of warning my freund; if Dog agrees to do the interview in a pub, be wanrned the ****er may or may not turn up. You could end up wasting a whole evening getting steaming drunk.

At work we have just had a new pool table delivered. The old one was donated to us and is FREE to anyone who has the space and manpower to collect it. Obviously it's not in perfect condition otherwise we wouldn't have replaced it. Basically I would say the cloth is fine and unripped, just old and faded. The cushions need tightening but I have no idea how accesible the bolts are to do this. The money slot doesn't work properly, we always used it with the side off anyway (free-play). It weighs a ton and although none of my colleagues would fancy lifting it, I reckon that a small donation (say £10-£20) to our 'amenities fund'* might get a couple of them off of their lazy arses and may include local delivery using one of our mini-buses, I'll even offer to drive it myself if need be. It needs to be gone ASAP as we had an audit recently and it's already been removed. Answers by 'reply' function please. * 'amenities fund' is used solely for service users purposes.

I hear that they haven't got Portsmouth on Stretview yet, instead they made it into a computer game called GTA.

They get a free uniform which includes free boots (steel toe-capped)! ;-) Now then, on a very serious note if they are receiving this 100% rebate on their CT then they have moved from doing it for free, to doing it for reward. Just doesn't make sense to me but i am willing to accept that I'm in the minority. Someone mentioned the volunteer cestor. People volunteer their services for a number of reasons and I have not worked with a single one yet (I've worked with quite a few over the years) who has asked or expected a 'perk'. I remember a time a few years back when I had a 'discussion' with my then manager about letting our vollies have a free lunch, they only cost about £2 at cost price, but i thought it would be a nice gesture on our part. It was agreed that if a volunteer worked more than a certain number of hours they could have a free lunch. Guess what? Not one took up the offer and they carried on paying! My mistake for getting on my high horse, lesson learnt. Anyway, I really do not believe that this CT break will encourage more pepople to sign up to the Specials and moreover don;lt think it should be offered.

*in confidence* this morning mrs h farted at a moment pre coitus interuptous, which she knows full well will be repaid with interest when she least expects it. i telled her that a simple 'not right now' would have sufficed, but she said that that would not have had the same comedic impact! this aftrenoon I was driving with a friend and slipped out a little fart which i expected to go un-noticed, I have not had smelly farts for weeks, but as is the nature of farts, it stank the car out. I couldn;t laugh, but as he said nowt i decided to keep the windows shut to see if he'd crackk, he didn't. Both true stories.

Spinach is renowneded for it's high Iron content. Hence the Popeye nonsense. In actual fact the myth came from a misprint in a Marvel comic back in the early 1920's, where a misplaced decimal point put it at numver one in the Iron steaks. Spinach actually has a lower Iron content than table salt. FACTOID

That's easy for you to say..

/\ Do people think that actors who portray policemen in films and tv shows should be exempted from paying council tax? I think it's the least we could do to repay them for making the streets a safer place and our cities a nicer place to live...

Yes indeed. In fact much of it was filmed on my manor in the Medway Towns, mainly Chatham iirc. My mate went home from school one day to find the whole road full of coppers and film crew, his Mum was dishing out cups of tea, how nice.
