I'll add to this actually that I can't remember ever seeing a keeper come back from a long term injury and be as good as he was before it.

I don't really care, we should be signing a keeper to be number one and then Bazunus needs to fight his way back in. He was sub par to begin with and we have no idea how he'll actually recover.

I'm not undermining it at all. It's an important role. Time will tell if Downes is capable of performing in that role at this level. It's also very important to score goals and right now our best source of goals is Adam Armstrong, who was horrendous at doing just that last time we were in the Prem. At the very least he needs the pressure taken off him with some other players in the team that score goals. Since our last season up here we've lost Adams and Ward-Prowse who, without looking, I would assume were our two top scorers.

Yes, it's exactly the same. As I said, I think it would be easier to find a defensive midfielder who fills the role Downes does for the amount we're offering for O'Riley, and we may have been better off spending the higher amount on O'Riley. Lots of midfielders can pass and tackle. A midfielder that scores and assists at a high rate is a rare thing - and to be honest without JWP and S. Armstrong we have nobody in midfield now who I would be confident of getting more than maybe 2 goals this season.

I think it'd be easier to find someone who can fill Downes role for a smaller than amount than it would someone who got 30+ goals and assists last season.

Depends on the add ons to be fair. Also think if that's our budget now it possibly shows we had our priorities wrong with Downes.

I also understand other clubs hesitancy to be fair. He was part of a team that got relegated and last season he only got 2 goals and 4 assists in the championship as an attacking fullback in one of the highest scoring sides. We also conceded quite freely as others have mentioned. We love him but to anyone looking from the outside he isn't a sure thing.
