IIRC they signed a few players in January that all spoke genuinely about wanting to finish in the top 4 and that's when they fell away. It went from a fun ride while it lasts to genuinely trying to do something impossible.
-
It won't be the drubbing people are predicting but it will be comfortable for Newcastle, 2 or 3-0 with us barely threatening.
-
That 1-1 comparison depends heavily on how Suga adapts to the Prem to be fair. I think Taylor is an improvement on Manning and BBD an improvement on Che.
-
Welcome to Southampton! If you aren't a top Prem player by the time you're 21 we'll ditch you.
-
Agreed, but what's the alternative? We can do a Pompey?
-
This is the level of spending the Premier League is at for decent midtable players. This is why we sign younger players and why we have to give them a few years before we write them off.
-
Yeah we'd probably do well to get £40-45 million out of that lot right now.
-
I was just using that figure as an example. Obviously we should try to negotiate down but if we can't afford the full amount up front I don't see anything wrong with splitting it that way, decent chunk up front with the majority of it at the end of the loan.
-
Surely loan with mandatory to buy clause would be doable. £7.5million loan fee and £20million next summer.
-
Most of our best signings in the past have been towards the end of the window to be fair.
-
And Leno available for £4million.
-
Please get Ramsdale on loan. Please god.

When someone posts incorrect information on here do you get notified with the QI klaxon sound going off? Anyway I think the pink kit looks alright, probably the best of the three, but I still wouldn't wear it.

Must be some history from last season when he was at Juventus surely. I forgot Nathan wood existed I must admit.
-
@Master Batesany chance of some footage of the fight? 😂
-
Eh?
-
I certainly wouldn't be brave enough to shout it at the women's game, even if I usually am thinking it.
-
I'd be disappointed if there isn't a way back for him here to be honest, considering we look happy to play Jack Stephens as first choice.
-
Indeed but the other differences are that the money we spent was raised through sales, 22/23 we didn't raise anything. And also the price inflation makes a huge difference. The players we signed in 14/15 would have cost us probably twice that now, maybe even more.
-
Martin loves his cheeky lads with beards to have mad bants with.
-
Anyone else think they might have designed this shirt purely so the logo goes with it, with the yellow badges etc?
-
Wait, really? That's genuinely better than our current kit as wacky as it is.
-
We spent more in 14/15 although I'll admit that was with a lot of outgoings. But again, those players were signed with a deliberate long term strategy in mind. Only one of those players is no longer here and he made most of that money back himself.
-
Yes, and those are already good enough. But we don't have the funds to buy an entire team (squad) of ready made players. I'll say it now, unless we sell KWP I can almost guarantee we don't spend more than £15million on another player.
-
But we're not spending relatively big money on them. Relatively big money would be £20-30million each. We spend in the £6-15million region.
