They might not have been better, but they were replaced. McGoldrick was not replaced till Lambert (4 games into the season?). Surman was not replaced until Hammond (round about the same?). Etc etc.

So you're saying Boothroyd could have taken the team that started against, say, Hearts in pre-season and give us 7 wins and 7 draws in 14 games at least?

To be fair....he didn't. They may have lost their best players, but they were replaced well before the season started. This is the same Colchester that beat Norwich 7-1 on the opening day of the season.

By my reckoning Lambert not only has 13 goals so far this season, but 9 assists as well.

There is a difference between Pardews "impact" and Boothroyds "impact". Pardew didn't have a league game for about 2 weeks and by then the hype around him signing had died down. Boothroyd had a game within days of joining Colchester, so the "new manager syndrome" was in effect for him.

Agreed, the only thing he lacks IMO is pace.
