But the website is still there when I load up my homepage, it just has an error message at the top. I can still view everything on it.

Is it just me or does it not work very well? If you load it up from a bookmark (or if it's your homepage) it comes up saying error. But when I try just typing the address in, it sits on "new site coming soon" forever and ever.

I agree. There are people who jump ship when a team gets relegated from the Prem, no question. But are there really that many people who go to games in the Championship to watch the opposition? I don't think so. The 14-17k that were there regularly last season are main core of supporters IMO.
