  1. On BBC Final Score, has the Garth Crooks inflatable doll been over-inflated? Looking like it could explode soon.
  2. Of course Wigan can't beat Arsenal, just like they couldn't beat Man City. Point is that relying on other teams losing is not the way to success in the Prem, it's what your own team does that matters.
  3. If we stay on 39 points we will be relegated if Norwich and Newcastle win one of their remaining two games. But if we stay on 39 points we would deserve to be relegated. Relax, it won't happen, because we won't finish on 39 points.
  4. Ideas from other sports to improve the FA Cup Final even more:- From F1:- Female models to line the route from the dressing rooms to the pitch with a camera following the teams but focussing on the girls. From US sports TV:- artificial breaks in the game to allow more advertising spots in the TV coverage From motor sport:- sell advertising space on the players' shirts and shorts From horseracing - have the pitch surrounded by bookmakers From boxing: girls to walk round the pitch before the second half with boards carrying the number '2'. Any other ideas?
  5. WHAT! The FA actually run the game for the benefit of the fans! You've lost the plot. How would the players in the FA's premier league and owners and agents make their millions if the game was run for the benefit of the fans. Talk sense.
  6. Heard the parody of Abide With Me on the radio and as for that weird version of God Save the Queen maybe they wanted to disguise the UK National Anthem in case it offended three-quarters of the Man City team. Or did the two Robertos pay one of the singers to do the Italian National Anthem in the background.
  7. For a decent pint try Fitzgerald's, owned by the Sir John Fitzgerald group. Specialises in fantastic selection of Real Ale, with beers from local micro breweries. Its in Green Terrace in the City Centre. Usually very busy and lively.
  8. After all is said and done, the Chelsea win suits us best as we can finish above Villa and make the final table look more respectable. If we don't win at least one of these last two games we would have failed to win any of the last 6 games making the end of the season look almost as bad as the beginning. We are better than that and must win at least one more game if not both. The Villa result against Chelsea means our club can earn more prize money.
  9. Mon ami Le Kraken. Je suis d'accord, mais dirais que Cork vaut endroit en tant que joueur d'équipe, pas comme un premier choix.
  10. Lucky Saints haven't played in stripes this year. Less risk of accidental passes to the opposition.
  11. Shame about the tattoos but they do seem to match his personality
  12. Did the BBC predictor back in February when Norwich were mid-table and surprised myself by finding that Norwich dropped into the bottom 3 on my predicted results as I hadn't targeted them in any way. It is still quite possible that it could be Norwich who take the coveted (not) 3rd spot. As others have said, it is in our own hands to get 2 points from 2 games and be absolutely safe whatever the results are for the teams beneath us but we can stay up on 39 points if Wigan lose away to Arsenal. You'd have to ask yourself though, if we get no more points, whether a team that ends the season with four straight defeats and only 2 points out of the last 6 games, is fit for the Premier League. I'd say we are fit for this league and therefore I don't expect that to happen but hypothetically, if it did, there would need to be some major surgery in the summer.
  13. If Wigan lose to Arsenal at the Emirates the excitement will all be over for us with a game to play, although it may not be over for Newcastle and Norwich depending on what they do this weekend. For us though, if it turns out that 39 points is enough, and even if we get to 40 or above, this has not proved to be the outcome we expected when those results came in against Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool. Then it was all about top half of the table and safety well before the end of the season. If you take those unexpected 9 points away the picture looks very different but in gaining them, the team hasn't then achieved the promise that seemed to offer. I just hope the club does not allow itself to bask in the sunshine of Premier League survival by kidding itself that all is well and that we will do better next season just by avoiding the poor start to the season. We do have a nucleus of good premier league players, some good young players coming through and a manager who is playing attractive passing football but scoring goals seems to be getting more difficult and we are lacking the exceptional flair from a world class player that can win a game with a moment of brilliance. Staying up is great but not something that lead to complacency and I feel confident that will be the message from the manager.
  14. Can't condone Barry Sanchez's use of the phrase 'would of' which is meaningless and should be 'would have', but otherwise what he said is most certainly not rubbish. It is fair opinion based on the last 4 results. Hopefully the next two results will restore the balance but even if they do, his comments are correct in pointing out some failings in the transfer policy. Our record signing should be a shoe-in but even before the red card, he has only been a squad player. Mayuka has been guilty of far too many6 errors to be a reliable first choice CB at this level and it seems from his being dropped, that MP might think so as well. As for Forren - who's Forren. And Why?
  15. Can't believe that Saints won't get at least one point out of the last two games and realistically we should expect a win and a draw if not two wins. If we don't get any more points it may well be that 39 points will be enough given our GD is better than the teams around us but you would have to ask is we deserved to stay up if we do stick on 39 points. That would mean that we lost the last 4 games of the season and only got 2 points from the final 6 games. Given how well the team appear to play that doesn't seem a likely outcome but it might show that however well we play, so do other teams in this league. To do better next year will need a stronger squad with a few more quality players.
  16. Seemed to me last close season that the delay in making signings was not due to the manager but was the 'transfer committee' or the chairman. It's good to know that Pochettino has identified his targets but that doesn't necessarily mean the club will sign them. On the other hand the awful start last year may have taught a lesson to the people making those decisions; that the manager must be supported.
  17. My hope is that MP decides not to disrupt the side by playing players out of position just to cover one spot. Moving Clyne, moving Cork or moving one of the CBs would mean two weak positions. To solve this by bringing in Matt Targett who is rated as a very promising LB seems very possible. He'll be 18 in Sept so similar age to Shaw.
  18. My prediction is 3 wins - - - - - until we lose one, then I'll predict 2 wins.............
  19. Good summary. The possible and the likely are two very different concepts. If you worry too much things that are possible even though they are not likely, you would be in fear of your life every time you went out to cross the road. And then you would worry because most accidents happen at home! Until Saints relegation is not mathematically possible it cannot be totally discounted but it is so unlikely as not be a concern. What is a disappointment after the WBA game is that the idea we had truly arrived by achieving a top half finish after such a poor start now looks to have been mistaken. If you add that to the QPR defeat it does seem that some more spending will be needed if the team is to move up to top half level next year.
  20. W D L Pts Saints 0 0 3 39 Norwich 1 0 2 41 Sunderland 1 0 3 40 Newcastle 1 0 2 40 Aston Villa 2 0 2 40 Wigan 3 1 1 42 If Saints lose all three remaining games they can go down as per above. Wigan winning 3 out of 4 is unlikely but not impossible. If Saints draw one game so as to get to 40 points makes a big difference due to the GD advantage over Villa and Newcastle. There is no reason to think we won't get more than 40 points based on recent form but if complacency played any part in Saturday's defeat, I suspect MP will make sure the players get words of advice to help them in these last 3 games. Even if we lose at Tottenham almost any return from the 6 points available in the last two games should be enough but the home defeat by WBA has put talk of a top half finish into perspective.
  21. True that as a fan you can't make a judgement on just a few a appearances, but the coaches can because part of their job is to assess the players from how they perform in training and practice matches. Mayuka may have had a run in the side if Lambert or JRod had been out for some time but neither have them have warranted being dropped. Those managers who rotate their squads to give all the players a chance are just as open to criticism as are those who stick with a best eleven and are then told a good understudy hasn't had a chance.
  22. Have to disagree with a lot of the comments here. For me, MP's post-match reaction was all it could be. Acknowledging the result and saying, as any manager would, that the reasons will be analysed. Every team loses games of football over a season, including losing at home, even the team winning the title. His comments about the red cards and the other bookable offences were far better than what you would hear from the Arsene Wenger School for Blind Football Managers. Until now, MP's players have not picked up many bookings, Schneiderlin maybe the exception, so it may be an aspect that he now sees that he needs to work on. I found his comments realistic and honest.
  23. Definitely a wake-up call. The team played as if the game didn't matter which isn't true as long as we stay on 39 points. We made WBA look better than they are - on results since New Year they would have been in the bottom 3 but they thrashed us on our own turf. Those players are better than this.
  24. Ferguson was being very jolly after Man U's win over Villa gave them the Premier League title. So that's one down and two to go....
  25. Fantastic journalism by the Daily Mirror. Players loaned out by a Prem club because they aren't of Prem quality could be off-loaded by the club in the summer. It takes a really astute journalist to work that out.
