The thing is that most sane "future brides" would totally agree with those sentiments. I certainly do as does future Mrs D_P, and I know my Daughter does as well. Looking at my example - both of us would love some deserted paradise Beach on an Island in the sun, with just the two of us on OUR day. Unfortunately it very rarely works out like that. In our case, it starts with our parents - "No you can't do that, it's our day as well" is the sort of mentality, they want to see their darling off into the wide new world & all that. Then comes the brothers & sisters and you get to a point where you have the horror of realising that the slight of them not being invited is something that will hurt for a very long time. Sure we will all moan at the cost (blame OK & Hello magazine for a lot of that BTW) but although UK is a very disfunctional family these days, something like a wedding for people who do have close ties is a social nogo when it comes to ignoring everyone. Within 2 days of getting engaged this summer, the numbers of family & friends that would simply have to be invited in Poland alone nudged up towards 80 or 90 people. This is what happens. With my Daughter it started small then the parents want a couple of friends to go, then her brothers had to bring Girlfriends, the two sets of divorced parents had to bring their new halves and kaboom. Suppose it was my own fault, I should have met a social outcast. So yes it is stupid, we I want to go to Gretna or Vegas or the beach in Phuket or Bahamas with just the two of us, but it ain't gonna happen, and then you have the choice. A few Carling Black Label down the Social Club or done properly.

I know it is a real trial being happy BEFORE going into watch Saints play football after so many years. I don't want a Politician in charge of my football club. As long as he keeps moving us forwards he can do what the hell he likes. When we stagnate or start to decline then I will worry about it. But right now, he may be a complete cn*t, but he's our cn*t and I'm VERY happy with that.

Not far off for a small(ish) wedding. Daughter getting wed next year - they did all the research, it's not just the costs but also the actual quality of the venues that scared them. In the end they googled wedding planners, found one in Abruzzo, Italy, did the research, found a Dream Location, Ryanair access and with a reception serving food & booze from 4pm to 6am and shuttle buses it cost 15k EUROS for almost 180 people. The package with farmhouse B&B's & Ryanair booked early for the guests worked out cheaper then a hotel or B&B in UK. Trust me, the Montepulicano D'Abruzzo beats Carling Black Label in some Hotel Ballroom hands down
