  1. Don't tell me. I suppose it is one of those Lib Dem roundabouts where you have to give way to the right.
  2. Climate change is happening, no doubt about that. Whether it is man made, I need to see more evidence. We had an Ice Age 10,000 years ago and there was a significant change in climate, whilst we were all running around in grass skirts. The planet has been going through climate change since the beginning of time and therefore all previous changes were not down to man. Why should the current change be down to man? Unless we can understand what caused previous changes in climate, it would be difficult to prove the current scenario. However, if I gave the beleivers the benefit of doubt, fair enough, but for me the issue is more about the finite natural resources we are consuming and the rate we are consuming them. This for me will be mans destruction (possibly in our lifetime), so the issue of climate change is immaterial because we won't be around long enough as a species to find out. The next world war will be over resource. What can we do? I would like to see us go more into renewable energy, thus moving away from our dependence on fossil fuels, giving us security of supply and more control over our destiny as a nation. If there is man made climate change, renewables would help this too. We could then export this technology thus putting us back on the map with regards to being an economic powerhouse.
  3. I didn't see that on the Hamster bedroom webcam......
  4. It is funny how these things happen (not in a laughing sense). Bernard Matthews died on Thanksgiving day, which is also known as "Turkey Day".
  5. There is no 'I', but there is 'me'
  6. I think you are lying as you still haven't corrected "regrads"
  7. I thought I was OK and had no issue with it. However, I have checked back on here 8 or 9 times. Does that mean i've got it too?
  8. But you youngsters don't do revolution. You'll probably set up a facebook campaign and slag us all off.Come to think of it, in this virtual world in which we all live, you could take over the forum and ban us all. Saves money on bullets.
  9. Yea, great idea. Take out all of the wealth creators and your leadership won't be so glorious. You'll be leading a nation of unemployed film, equine studies, media studies and sports science graduates. Actually, come to think of it, can I be first to be shot?
  10. But South Korea, continuously cited by Verbal, is nowhere to be seen.
  11. Which has kind of been my argument all along.
  12. That's not an oxymoron, but the person who said it is a moron. As per the words of the song called Jilted John, "Gordon is a moron".......
  13. Hey Blinkered Dog, not quite the last few hundred years. What about the Roman empire, crushing other people in persuit of power and wealth? If we go a bit further back, we can look at the Egyptians and how they used slaves to build their pyramids, in the name of power and wealth. Sorry, but you can't put all of the ills in the word down to capitalism, when humans have been ****s to each other since the beginning of time. Life is actually more fair now than is was in the past.
  14. FFS Dune, it's Christmas. Save all of that to the New Year.
  15. Not quite over yet Jonnyboy Many of the so called "University" courses are in fact 2 year vocational courses. According to the OECD, 53% of students have a tertiary education, so Verbal is playing sily ******** with the numbers again, find out more: http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/53/49/42689417.pdf Even his beloved BBC, have stats much lower than 80%. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/05/education_some_of_the_oecd_education_comparisons/html/1.stm One thing I will give the S Koreans (which Verbal fails to mention) is that there is a specific focus on VET (Vocational Educational Training) and one thing for sure is that they are not all doing Film Studies, Media Studies, Equine Studies or Sports Science. Also, their best university ranks 164th in the world, so it is not quite as fandabbydozy as Verbal would have you believe http://www.academicleadership.org/article/why-south-korean-universities-have-low-international-rankings/jambor Compared with the US, that occupy 17 of the top 20 universities in the world (with Ox and Cambs in there too), with South Korea it could be a case of quantity over quality.
  16. The Virgin Mary? She did give birth to Jesus, afterall. (Nicely ties in with the festive season)
  17. The prison of life
  18. But I am more than paying back my debt to society in spades, so I guess I was a worthwhile investment.
  19. There is some truth in what you say and we have experienced this in our recruitment. I did a sandwich course and the 3rd year out in the work place provided valuable experience and certainly changed my attitude. In my 4th year, I had a different (more serious/professional) approach to my studies and by continuing part time with said company in my final year, meant that I went straight into work and earned a decent salary from the off (as this was early 1990's and there was a recession in full swing, it made my life so much easier). The sandwich year also gave me the opportunity to clear down the debt accumulated in the first couple of years.
  20. To be fair to the Unions, it can't be down to them as disputes are never about pay. There must be a health and safety reason somewhere as their primary concern is the safety of passengers
  21. I suggest getting the unemployed film graduates to drive the trains as it beats stacking shelves in Tescos.
  22. The tories are defininately greedy. They've even got more posts on their thread than yours. Perhaps there could be a re-distribution of posts, where the mods take some of the posts off of their thread and add them to yours in order to make it a bit more balanced and fair. Or we could take the commie approach and shut the other thread down (whilst killing all the students) and we will be left with just this one to post on. What do you think?
  23. **** me, I am glad you're not doing it, what about anaesthetic?
  24. I actually agree with you Hammy, but this is not a new tory thing. It was brought about by the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The closures started before Camerons lot got in......... http://www.thirdsector.co.uk/news/Article/997171/individual-budgets-cause-closure-adult-day-care-service-norfolk/ No doubt it will continue under the tories, but they are not solely to blame here.
  25. We are where we are, public finances in a mess. Tuition fess are going up. The other side of the argument, "free education for all" is very noble, but there is not much money in the pot. What I have propsed is a third way where some courses could be made more affordable if there was a cast iron economic benefit. Not ideal, but surely better than all fees going up? Anyway, I am off to the dentist in a minute for a tooth extraction. I seriously hope and pray that he is someone who is following his life long ambition to be a dentist (having done dentistry at uni) and not someone who majored in equine studies, found they coudn't get a job, then had to re-qualify as a dentist in order to make a living.
