  1. Our ability to detect faces in stuff is quite remarkable, we see them everywhere and I seem to recall reading there is a part of the brain dedicated to it.
  2. Div 3 South (and the Southern League if you go back far enough). So we have played in the bottom tier of 92 I'm afraid. Pompey have played in Div 4 much more recently though
  3. 3 red cards, last minute equalisers, and every player contributing seems to be an ex-Saint. Big implications for Bompey, sounds a fun game... Oh and Oldham have won so I guess that means Pompey will get minus-10 next season.
  4. Listened to "In event of Moon Disaster" this morning, a Radio 4 doc on speeches written but never given. Speech writer for Kennedy's Cuban Missile Crisis speech regularly got thanked by guys who used it to convince their girlfriends the world was going to end in the morning and therefore they should put out
  5. Bearing in mind who it was against, and the fact it was Channon's final goal for us, its by far and away my favourite goal. Probably also helps I was a nipper when it was scored, remember everyone trying to play one-touch at school on the Monday. Can't think of a similar "team" goal, we probably scored a few last season when we were utterly taking the **** but none of them are iconic. Few goals seem to stick in the memory these days. too much footie on TV I guess. Others that spring to mind: Beattie against Leicester Pahars vs the Skates Golac vs (Coventry?) Most of Matty's
  6. Be lovely if they stay up by the skin of their teeth only for the minus 10 to be applied and relegate them.
  7. Think the problem is the cost, plus he's been out of single seaters for two years. Won F2, signed a contract for Formula Renault (pathway Raikkonen and I think Alonso took to F1), two days later was diagnosed with cancer. Press release says he has problems regulating testosterone levels, wonder if that affects his ability to build the physique needed for F1. He's a better driver than 4 or 5 of the current F1 grid but doesn't have a Mexican or Venezuelan billionaire backing him. See also Kobayashi and Kovaleinen...
  8. Cortese has made Woy an offer he couldn't refuse?
  9. Impressive return to racing this weekend following bollock cancer. Pole position and double win in the Porsche Carerra Cup at Brands. No mugs in that series and plenty of experience so looks like he's back to being proper fast. Was on the route to F1 until cancer hit, now he's going for sports/GTs. Future Le Mans winner. Southampton-based, looking for sponsors by the look of the car...
  10. So that's Ricky's last two goals down to the wall breaking under the onslaught. Contrast with ours (Morgan I think) copping a full-power Lampard strike and not budging. Idiotic sticking Torres in there...
  11. St Mary's, Graveyard of Champions. Way we've played against the big boys this year reminds me of how we used to play them at The Dell
  12. That surging run down the left in the 2nd half, and the way he chipped Terry set him apart today. What a revelation, powerful, quick, composed on the ball. Could do with looking up a bit more and feeding the wide players with those runs.
  13. Pretty sure that the Three Guineas is still open (that's the one attached to the station). It's a listed building so doubt it's been demolished.
  14. Reading has loads of great pubs, one of the few good things about the town. Problem is none of them are near the stadium which is a 30 minute walk from town. Other than the Harvesters near the ground there are a couple a short walk the other side of the M4 in Three Mile Cross - The Farriers and The Swan. Might be worth a look if you're driving.
  15. Echo what Saint Mikey says, check your contract. If its an AST it automatically converts to a 1-month rolling with a 1-month notice period, this is the law and can't be varied. And ditto for telling the letting agents to get stuffed if they want to charge you a contract renewal fee. Bear in mind however the landlord can seek to start another AST with a fixed-term but in my experience they often don't - the periodic tenancy gives both parties equal powers (1-month notice both sides). ASTs run for a minimum of 6 months if they have a break clause built in, or you mutually agree to terminate so are a bit less flexible. Having rented for 13-odd years I always had an initial 1-year AST followed by conversion to a periodic tenancy...

To be fair though, the Belgians push the Germans and Japanese on levels of general depravity.
  17. On day to day expenses, worse off. 20% pay cut by relocating back to God's Own City, increase in expenditure on basics and fuel. But overall better off due to mortgage being paid off thanks to a redundancy payoff 4 years ago. In terms of quality of life, much better off. Swapped Reading for the New Forest, relaxed pace of life, easy commute in to Southampton, and a lovely woman to share all that with.
  18. Real skill/stupidity/balls here. Looking through a viewfinder is quite disorienting, particularly with the wide angle lenses they're using...
  19. Played full 90 on Saturday, didn't look like he picked up a knock. Possibly needs the time off to rest up from the knock he picked up in the last U-21 camp. Either way, good for us, we need him for the run-in.
  20. Looking at those terms for the loan I can't see how PDT can meet them so shirley its irrelevant? Seems to me that the council have tied it up in knots in order to be able to say "we tried, we had to ensure we protected our taxpayers, its not our fault the PDT couldn't deliver on promises/the PFA invoked the Football Creditors rule/PP payments weren't made/Orville and his mates challenged the decision of the FA in the courts/etc."
  21. Just needs a 50mph limit from the bottom of Poulner hill to Ashley Heath, enforced with average speed cameras, or the closure of the Fish Inn slip. The other factor in all this is that its a tourist route so there is perhaps a higher number of drivers unfamiliar with the road, particularly at the weekend. Often wondered why they can't widen that 50 yard stretch westbound between the Fish Inn slip and the Verwood/Matchams turn, you could then retain the slip.
  22. And if you feel strongly about it, tell Desmond Swayne (the local MP): http://www.writetothem.com/write Public opinion can and does make a difference in cases like this.
  23. I drive that junction regularly (couple of times a week) and I make the occasional mistake in timing the speed of oncoming traffic. It's bad enough in daylight in a car with a bit of poke, beggars belief trying to join on a restricted moped. Either they drop that section to 50mph, close the back way out of Ringwood, close the pub, or close the garage. There's just too much to cope with, so easy to miss something in a blind spot. Normally I'm not in favour of speed limits and cameras on such roads but that junction is so badly designed it needs one. I guess it comes down to policing, its very difficult to police the A31 due to the lack of exits and safe places to pull over speeders, as a result its as much of a racetrack as the A303 & A34 - I would say a lot of people speed up once they leave the M27.
  24. Completely screwed after Ower and Ringwood due to two serious accidents. No point heading through forest either as the Salisbury Ringwood road is also chocka Not a day to be heading west...
