  1. Yes, I was almost certain it was a league up game but did not like to be too cocksure. Thanks for giving me the date of the game. I was living in Winchester at the time but at Totton in the late fifties.
  2. No mention of John McGrath yet, The man mountain of a player. Gabrial and Fisher were his partners in crime. I was behind the goal when Fisher sustained a broken leg courtesy of the onrushing Arsenal goalie. The best Saints game I remember was when Ball played a blinder in the mud at the Dell (in a cup round?) as did Rodrigues. I think it was v Man City. Shannon was playing for `Man City and missed a sitter or two.
  3. Nice to read all the reminiscings above that my thread has prompted.
  4. Why can't the players be told to go out and play spontaneously, like we did for our school teams. Tactics are ruining the game for the paying public. Did Le Tissier need coaching or tactics. No, he played off the cuff.
  5. I remember Terry Paine and John Sydenham. What a character O'brian was!!
  6. Hello, As it turned out the environment was far from intimidating. It was a real anticlimax and an utter damp squib. Especialy after Sky's over the top before the game build up of the supposed rivalry between the two clubs
  7. I bet Robinson felt sick not starting. Being dropped for an untried newcomer must be demoralising Too many newbies picked so soon.
  8. I agree the long balls were just gobbled up by Pompey. Also the long punts were made after several crab passes during which Pompey could mark our men. why not hoof it up straight away if we had to resort to such tactics. I thought 1st half was the worst I had seen from Sts. forget about promotion.
  9. Thanks `- very enlightening
  10. I think Still will have a job on his hands keeping all of, the now, bloated squad happy.
  11. how can opinions re. Baz vary so much about today'a game.
  12. Been making my eyes tired all match watching the forum for nothing.
  13. What is IPTY please?
  14. We are, or should be a FC not factory
  15. Gives Robinson a chance to fill his boots. No one is indispensable
  16. Considering how many years football he has left in him at his age I do think we should have got a better price for him.
  17. I thought the camera work was poor - loosing track of the ball a few times. Also only few shots of saints fans.
  18. Bloody international break permitting
  19. At least the commentator said It was entertaining game. Maybe that is how if being a neutral gives an unbiased view of things. I think Dibling would be no great loss the way Robinson is playing. Our goal was the exact opposite of Hoof Ball.
  20. There was also the midland region last night and that is where the match was placed. By the way what a hideous away strip we sported.
  21. I saw Saints play at Sixfields in the cup about 15 years ago. Watton played ad CB and Murton? at right back. We won.
  22. I had not forgotten them but not in same level as the others listed albeit O""]]] O'Neil was a super player. You could go on and on about other players. What about Danny Mills for example?
  23. Thanks for bringing back happy memories. You forgot Ted Mcdougal by the way.
  24. We take Llalana COME back but let KWP go on a free instead of giving him a new contract. What folly,
  25. What stream are you watching please?
