Lavia aside our recruitment hasn’t exactly been great recently so do you really trust the club to find a striker that’ll score more goals than Adams this season? I’m not sure I do. Of all the positions in this team that we need to “demand better” from, at this moment in time Striker is not one of them.

I fail to see how it’ll be harder to offload him after a (potential) 20+ goal season in the Championship than it is after only scoring 5 goals in the Prem. Everton could well go down and still see the value in pursuing him next summer to score the goals to get them back up. Let’s not forget without his goals we would currently have 2 points.

Offering him a new deal doesn’t mean we have to keep him long term. It does however guarantee us a bit more money if/when he goes next season or the season after. I don’t really give a shit who the player is that’s scoring the goals as long as they’re being scored and I’m not bored of watching a striker who has scored 3 goals already and only started 1 game. Whether he’s good enough for a season in the premier league is irrelevant at this point, we aren’t there yet but his goals could get us there.

Then tell him he’s staying until January and if he’s banging in goals and we’re sitting pretty near the top of the table then he’ll be offered a generous new deal but if we’re not looking likely to be promoted then he can go for £5m to whoever wants him. It’s a gamble worth taking, we’ll struggle to replace his goals at this level for £15m.

Yeah Cummins has got to be one of the very few Aussies that’s actually likeable. Works hard, plays with a smile, doesn’t chirp up much and most importantly doesn’t carry the Aussie chip on his shoulder. Very good at what he does too. The rest can get firmly in the bin though.

Those runs were negated by the 2 big mistakes he made. Missed the stumping of Green who went on to score 38 and dropped Carey who scored another 40. There’s his 78 gone. And he missed the edge from Khawaja yesterday who was on 5. So his contribution is negative when we should be saying his 98 runs have made a big difference. I find it hard to believe Foakes doesn’t take all 3 wickets and score some runs. You definitely need Bairstow in the middle order to play Bazball though. Especially if you’re batting last, you want Bairstow and Stokes out in the middle smashing them to all parts of the ground.

Very limited options. Liam Dawson being one of them. The alternative is to bring Foakes in for Ali and give Root a few overs here and there. Although it would make it a bit of a headache if they want to pick 4 quicks. You would have to drop Duckett or Crawley and move Bairstow up. One thing is for sure, Foakes would have made a bigger difference in this game than Bairstow has.

We could have all the money in the world, we would have to break more rules than City have to find any sort of success in the league. We will never generate the revenue needed without selling players to legally spend the money needed to bridge the gap. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if we pushed the boundaries this season.
