I actually agree with you. I don't think fielding a second string side is grounds for a refund. I was just trying to give those that do think differently an outlet for their angst. It is arguable that IF it could be proven a given football team didn't put in anywhere near 100% effort then the consumer is entitled to a refund (partial or otherwise). But, as I say, it's a futile argument as it's not something you could prove conclusively. Anyway, long-winded way of saying "I agree"
-
I think that's open to debate but it's obviously a grey enough area for no-one to bother testing it out it practice. If you went to watch Take That and only Jason Orange and 3 understudies pitched turned up, would you seek a refund or not?
-
I believe some people are saying they are entitled to a refund because we put out a side that wasn't "fit for purpose" or that they weren't pre-warned by the retailer (SFC) what they would be getting for their money (legal speak = " not as advertised") I'm simply highlighting that people don 't need some kind of club initiative to refund people (not that that would ever happen) but that they already have recourse through the consumer rights act if they feel they were diddled out of their cash.

^This. If people paid for something that they didn't then get they are entitled to a refund under UK consumer law (regardless of whether they paid by credit card or not). I doubt anyone will follow this up though - far easier to vent one's spleen on an Internet forum.

What I don't get is why there isn't a barrage of criticism about Adkins before the start of a game we end up losing. Given people seemingly know how bad a given team selection will perform before the game starts why wait until the game is underway or over to vent one's spleen? Yes, you get a few murmurings when a "poor" line-up is announced but people tend to wait until the game goes tits up before laying into the management and players....

For what it's worth, I was in the "concentrate on the league" camp during the JPT run. I don't recall being alone but perhaps not in the majority (I seem to recall opinions shifting the closer we got to Wembley funnily enough...). So, in terms of the "inconsistent opinions" charge....not guilty m'lud

I wasn't using Reading as a way of justifying our rubbish performance last night, I was merely countering the widely held view (at half-time last night) that Reading had made the right approach to the competition (because being 4 up would "give them a confidence boost in the league"). My ascertain is that it ended up backfiring on them more than our B team losing will backfire on us. You're right - two wrongs don't make a right, but that wasn't the point I was making.
-
I'll need some convincing that throwing away a 4 goal lead at home to a fellow premier league side's B team is less soul destroying than our premier league B team losing away to a decent championship side. What reaction would there be on here had we 'done a Reading' last night? You'd probably struggle to tell the difference this morning I'd venture...
-
Difference being that if that was our regular championship starting 11 they would know each other's game exponentially better than last night, so not a 'like for like' comparison IMO. (That's not to say there's any guarantee they wouldn't play that badly in the long run either of course)

Would now be a good time to dig out the "What a confidence booster for Reading" posts from the match thread...?

Who's the lad that's been banging them in for fun in the U18s this season? Would like to have seen him on the bench.
