http://m.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/sep/14/southampton-youth-policy-nigel-adkins?cat=football&type=article Few people epitomise the success and appeal of Southampton's youth system quite like James Ward-Prowse. Having joined the club's academy at the age of eight, Ward-Prowse, now 17, was promoted to the first team at the start of the season and has gone on to produce encouraging displays in each of their three Premier League games so far. More interestingly, however – he is a Portsmouth supporter. "I was at both clubs and had to pick which one I wanted to play for and knew straight away that for the sake of my career I wanted to play for Southampton," he said. "This has been the right choice – I've grown to love the club." That is some statement for a man Southampton fans would otherwise refer to as a "skate" and, not surprisingly, has led to Ward-Prowse feeling unable to return to Fratton Park, a stadium where he once held a season ticket.

@Foundation_SFC: Hard work of all involved in the charity is recognised in the Football Business Awards shortlist http://t.co/5RWg0Uc6 #greateffortbyeveryone WTF?! Pompey not in line for a community award? A club as important to their local community as Pompey? Outrageous! Hope we get two tables at the awards ceremony.

@pn_neil_allen: Hearing #Pompey ownership situation now could be decided early next week. Seems FL holding up things; it's not PKF trying to get more money! Football League "holding things up"? Doing their job properly in other words...
-
Indeed. And why, seemingly, aren't HMRC rattling any cages? Surely they will recoup more money for you and I (the Great British taxpayer) if they were to press for liquidation, now that the coffers are relatively healthy?
-
Quelle surprise. Birch extends the "deadline". Didn't see that one coming...
-
@pn_Rory_McKeown: PKF says a decision on preferred bidder will be made 'depending on what bidders come back with', so it's not yet certain when that will be.

The article seems to put to bed the story that we acquired him via some 'future option' deal with Arsenal. The link with Arsenal seems purely down to the fact they made an approach for him 2 years before us. That said, there's still the outstanding question as to how we managed to find £1.2m to buy an 18 year old unproven talent whilst in financial difficulty...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19500230 Much was made of Arsenal's two 0-0 results before they went to Anfield and won. Now all of a sudden, after the three points at Liverpool, they look like good results. I would expect them to beat Southampton at home. Winger Santi Cazorla is a real player. They have pinched him. He is creative, two-footed and has everything about him. I do think Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, who scored at Anfield, will also be good. Arsenal will be a force, there is no doubt about it. They have Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna to come back. Southampton have had some tough games. That's Manchester City, Manchester United and now Arsenal in the first four games. Crikey. I just hope they are patient with manager Nigel Adkins in what he is trying to do. He has achieved two automatic promotions and has signed some good players but they have had a real tough run. We will get a better indication of Southampton after 10 to 12 games this season. What Southampton will have learned is that you have got to be able to concentrate for 90 plus minutes because, while Championship sides will spurn chances, the top teams don't and just put you away. Prediction: 2-0

"Gaydamak/Miland Development 2004 Limited 6.13 In the Proposals it was noted that MD2004 (a company owned by Alexandre Gaydamak) had ownership of much of the land surrounding Fratton Park and that there was a potential balance of c£4.9m owed to the Company by MD2004. 6.14 In late 2010 OldCo assigned to the Company the benefit of any recovery of this debt. This assignment was entered into on the condition that (among other things) the Company funded the actions necessary to pursue the recovery of the debt. On 8 February 2012 solicitors acting for the Liquidators of OldCo wrote to the Company formally requesting initial funding of c£119k within 14 days. No payment was made. 6.15 On 24 February 2012 solicitors acting for the Liquidators of OldCo wrote again to the Company stating that they considered the non-payment of the requested funding to be a repudiatory act and that the deed of assignment was therefore terminated. The Administrators have challenged this position and it remains unclear whether the right to pursue the c£4.9m vests with OldCo or the Company. The Administrators continue to review the position in light of the fact that on 4 July 2012 MD2004 was placed into Administration with Paul Appleton and Stephen Katz of David Rubin & Partners LLP being appointed Joint Administrators."

"Parachute Payments 6.7 At the Appointment Date, the value of future Parachute Payments potentially available to the Company (and potentially available to a purchaser) was estimated at c£14.04m. However, it was uncertain whether any Parachute Payments would be released to the Company due to: Competing claims over certain Parachute Payments due to be released in the period following the Appointment Date; and Potential liabilities to Premier League clubs that would have priority of payment. 6.8 Following negotiations with the Premier League, the Liquidators of OldCo and Mr Gaydamak we successfully negotiated the release of the Parachute Payments. This deal enabled the Administrators to recover c£6.08m of which c£1.2m has been paid out to Mr Gaydamak and legal advisors for Mr Gaydamak and the Premier League. A further £8m remains to be received over the next 2 seasons."

"We are continuing to review the security granted to Portpin by the Company."
