  1. Ah ok. Fair dos. I was going by the OP and skim read the rest. My bad.
  2. Sounds like you're a more avid x-factor viewer than me.... ;-)
  3. Depends how well written said text is. Couldn't see any overt sarcasm in the OP twitter quote. Perhaps it was taken out of context? Dunno.
  4. Whilst it's obviously desperately sad for the family involved, I hope there aren't any knee jerk calls for the Red Arrows to consider dis-banding.
  5. There's no need for the human race fullstop, but we all still trudge on regardless. As such, "need" is a bit of a subjective criteria for anything in life. IMHO of course. (and apologies for the uncalled for early morning philosophy lesson!) ;-)

  7. When do Arsenal get to exercise their 'buy back' clause? ;-)
  8. Giovani Dos Santos?
  9. I've got a feeling he could be "this season's Connolly" - i.e. find himself in the first team squad with 10 games to go due to others being injured then setting the world alight
  10. De Ridder assist
  11. No, I don't think you are. I would probably be equally concerned. That said, I work in banking IT and was trying to deduce how this company's apparent lapse in protocol could transpire into an actual financial loss. As you say, probably unlikely but still a principle worth challenging.
  12. ^This An old school friend phoned me about 9 months ago to say he was in a spot of temporary financial bother and asked if I could provide a reference for him to secure a "short term" loan at a ridculously high rate of interest via one of these "pay day" loan companies. I told him he was asking for trouble and, instead, I suggested that I take out a loan on his behalf (with the Post Office as it turns out - APR=6.9%), give him the lump sum then he pays me back the monthly payments. The Post Office trust me, I trust my hard-up friend and he trusts me. He's been a few days late with payments on one or two occasions but that was for understandable reasons. Something the "pay day" loan company wouldn't have been so understanding about. An example of the much maligned "Big Society" in action.....a friend with a few spare bob helping out a friend in need. And they say all Tories are nasty uncaring individuals.... ;-)
  13. Has any actual fraud been committed? i.e. has anyone bought anything using someone else's money?
  14. De Ridder playing for the development side? Match fitness I guess....
  15. When visibility drops to 'almost zero' it's human instinct to slam on the anchors in panic. The 'correct' thing to do is to gradually reduce speed but it is almost impossible for the human mind to act in what will seem a counter-intuitive way at the time. It's the fact that people instinctively slowed down (sharply) that would have been the primary, if not root, cause of this tragic accident. The amount of people that panic and slam on their brakes in relatively thick (but less severe) fog amazes me.
  16. Good job we don't have people posting provocative thread titles to rattle the cages of these naughty name callers and mud slingers then....
  17. Only if you read between the lines incorrectly and/or jump to conclusions....

  19. A doctor who decides to amputate a diseased limb is showing a similar level of foresight. He ultimately doesn't know what the overall outcome will be but his instinct and experience tells him that the amputation is more likely to save someone's life than try and treat the diseased limb in situ. Yes, none of us knew what the final outcome would be, we simply had an instinctual hunch that it was the best way forward. I simply don't see that as 100% hindsight per se.
  20. Yes. My hunch is that we'll be equally pleasantly surprised this time next year too.... ....assuming the Liebherrs and/or Mr Cortese don't cash-in on their 'investment' early of course....
  21. Are you Matthew Le God in disguise....? ;-)
