  1. Goldie (Blue Peter dog) My one regret was never seeing Shep in the flesh.
  2. He comes across well on here... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2324020,00.html
  3. Maybe this puts our position into some kind of perspective....? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/12859667.stm 10:34 GMT, Friday, 25 March 2011 Colchester United boss John Ward has been told his playing budget will be reduced next season. U's chairman Robbie Cowling, who props up the club financially, has told Ward he wants to make cutbacks. "We are going to look at downsizing in terms of the finances side," the U's manager told BBC Essex.
  4. Aye. Doesn't sound good. But, there again, we were on a similar brink before our takeover. "There seem to be three possible outcomes. Mastpoint either comes good and produces an alternative buyer, or it relents and accepts the purchasers' offer. The third is for the matter swiftly to head to court. If the administrator fails to persuade the courts that the Mastpoint stance is an unnecessary obstruction then Plymouth are likely to disappear. It has got that bad."
  5. And here's all the games being played (involving our promotion rivals) before we next play.... Friday, 25 March 2011 Bristol Rovers v Peterborough, 19:45 MK Dons v Walsall, 19:45 Saturday, 26 March 2011 Bournemouth v Charlton, 13:00 Brighton v Swindon, 13:00 Leyton Orient v Yeovil, 13:00 Sunday, 27 March 2011 Huddersfield v Notts County, 16:00 Tuesday, 29 March 2011 Dag & Red v Brighton, 19:45 Friday, 1 April 2011 Peterborough v Bournemouth, 19:45 One thing seems pretty sure, Brighton ought to be home and hosed before we next play....
  6. Friday, 25 March 2011 Brentford v Carlisle, 19:45 Bristol Rovers v Peterborough, 19:45 Hartlepool v Rochdale, 19:45 MK Dons v Walsall, 19:45 Funnier things have happened.....Ken Dodd, for example.
  7. If my understanding is correct, I think Hypo and a few others are looking at the last 10 games and simply thinking that, out of two decent players at this level, they'd have taken someone with Howard's experience over Stephen's potential as the 'ideal' solution for a midfielder to add that extra ounce of steel to the midfield during the run in. I don't think there's any slagging off of Stephens, or the decision to bring him here, per se.
  8. I understand where Hypo is coming from. I don't necessarily agree with the viewpoint, as a whole, but I can respect it.
  9. I heard he was born on Boxing Day. Hence the confusion. It was actually Saint Stephen's Day. I'm here all week
  10. I'd be interested to see how many cards Peterborough have. I think they have a 'get stuck in' mentality and look at how many goal chances they create week in, week out. (yes, I know that we typically create more chances than we did against Charlton so that game might be a bad example for me to use)
  11. I've just watched the full 90 minutes of the Charlton game on Saints player (a strange experience without commentary) and the main observation I had was that we rarely tackle our opponents when they get possession in midfield. Instead, we seem to track them until either they run out of danger or make an error and lose possession. I've not been able to get to many Saints games this season so not sure if this is typical of the way we play? I think this could help explain why we seem to have few chances in the first half of many games. At Charlton, due to the lack of tackles in midfield we rarely created chances on the counter attack. Was this a one-off observation at Charlton or do we 'track' rather than 'tackle' opposing players more often than not? Watching the whole 90 minutes on video highlighted more than ever to me that we need someone who gets 'stuck in' in midfield.
  12. Any parallels to be drawn with Etuhu being jailed today? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-12846460
  13. No such thing as "free" education - it has to be funded somehow. And, it's free at the point of use. In fact, for the poorest 25% it's now cheaper overall than it was under Labour, the party who endorsed tuition fees.... Strange then that Labour don't support the Tory led coalition's ring-fencing of, and extra investment in, the NHS....
  14. I'm surprised knowledgable BBC football commentators and pundits didn't know the rules before commenting on the situation....
  15. Good for him. Just think of all that extra money he's been able to spend/invest on a personal level with UK companies, thus boosting the economy, creating jobs, etc..... ;-)
  16. Am I the only one who, somewhat perversely I admit, feels more comfortable with Saints being in the chasing pack than sitting a few points ahead in second place? I would obviously feel even more comfortable being in Brighton's 'clear daylight' position at the top, but with my "knowing Saints" hat on, I'd rather we were chasing 2nd spot than trying to protect it....
  17. Indeed. One of the missing pieces of the 'takeover years' jigsaw....
  18. Indeed. Step forward Mr Richard Fry.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-1197918/Charles-Sale-Whats-Fry-cooking-Saints-now.html What's Fry cooking up for Saints now? Last updated at 12:43 AM on 7th July 2009 Football League unease at the way the Southampton FC administration is being handled will only increase with the revelation that the banker who first sent the club under has joined the recovery firm handling their future. Richard Fry was the executive at the Canary Wharf branch of Barclays Bank mainly responsible for first cutting the Southampton overdraft from £5m to £4m and then bouncing cheques worth just £6,000 when it was breached - sending Southampton's holding company spiralling into administration in April. The official departure of Fry from Barclays to join Begbies Traynor as a partner in their London division was announced on their website last week, heralding his expertise as a turnaround case manager whose specialties included football clubs. Strangely, any mention of Fry's arrival has now been removed from the company's website, although he was in work there yesterday - but wouldn't comment on his move - referring all questions, via his secretary, to administrator Mark Fry. Mark Fry (no relation) - who has been leading the Begbies Traynor recovery programme at Southampton - has received huge criticism for giving preference to the Matthew Le Tissier-led Pinnacle Consortium, whose bid has collapsed after a critical three weeks of wasted time that has put the club's future at serious risk.

    The Budget

Looking forward to the Tory led coalition taking us another step in the right direction....
  20. It's the Brighton fans I feel sorry for.....poor devils must be bored out of their minds.... ;-)
  21. Please can we change the thread title to something more generic so it covers all of us with suicide tendencies? I, for example, took a lethal overdose whilst listening to Chris de Burgh albums on repeat. Thanks
  22. I'll go with whatever Cortese says will happen in his next BBC interview
  23. Can someone please post hoddle's earlobes as I'm out and about at the moment. Thanks
