Could be time for everyone to change their avatars again in tribute to our friends at HMRC......

We salute you Sir. You don't do lottery numbers too per chance...?

The only downside being that we won't get to play them in the league for the foreseeable future....

http://www.accountancyage.com/accountancyage/news/2266529/hmrc-faces-millions-costs So, if I'm reading those two quotes correctly, Andrew Andronikou would only "pursue HMRC for costs and losses" if HMRC lodge an appeal AND lose that appeal in court. Or, in other words, if HMRC lodge an appeal today BUT withdraw said appeal 1 day before the court date (in November, let's say) then Andrew Andronikou would not be in a position to pursue them for costs, losses, etc. So, bottom line, HMRC have nothing to lose by lodging an appeal, and withdrawing it later on, in order to make PFC squirm a bit longer? Yes/No?

Another Devil's Advocate viewpoint..... I wonder if Cortese would have writen the same letter had he been at the helm of a football club relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season?
-
Yep. I was just wondering if they are using all the time available because they are working up to the wire in building their case or whether they were 'ready' to appeal days/weeks ago but are doing it at the last minute just because they can in order to 'score a point'...?
-
What benefit do HMRC achieve by delaying the appeal until the last possible minute? Aren't they just lowering themselves to PFC/AA's tit-for-tat level by stretching things out?

Can someone explain what year in the history of mankind this 'covering up your modesty' malarkey came into the human psyche? I know it's somewhere on a timeline between "Cave Woman" at one end and "Chav on a mediterranean beach" at the other end but I'm not sure when someone somewhere decided it would be a good idea to cover 'woman' up. Any ideas? Perhaps if we know whose bright idea it was in the first place we can start to unravel the rational behind it today.

Agreed, but my point is that there should be no 'surprise' that the privately owned company is choosing to communicate in the way it sees fit. FF highlighted the fact a year ago that we would now start to see things happen at the club that won't always come wrapped up with sequinned explanations. We simply have to acknowledge that any decisions being made, or the (non)communication thereof, are for the benefit of the private company, whether we like it or not. The theory being that what is best for the private company is best for the club on the field (for one goes hand in hand with the other) For what it's worth, I'd rather Cortese's communication to his customers was more open but I'm happy to go with the flow as it's only a football club at the end of the day.
-
Try telling that to Lord Mawhinney.....
-
So, can we add this one to the list of good things that Cortese has said or done?
-
I think the one area of criticism that most people are united on is the lack of communication about certain decisions. But, throwing one's devil's advocate hat into the ring, even that criticism could be deemed logically flawed... As FF rightly highlighted from 'day 1' (this time last year) the club would now be run in a less open fashion (for better or for worse) because it is now a private business rather than a public limited company. You'll notice that much of the "communication is bad" criticism is typically posted with an element of surprise that it's happening despite us all being able to work out last July that this is the sort of thing that would happen. And here comes the devil's advocate bit...given we all knew that this would happen why were those 'moaning' about it now not moaning about it when FF first highlighted what would happen a year ago? Hindsight is not the answer.

I always get a decent set of seats when I buy on the day of a match so you shouldn't have any problems in the seat selection dept I'd have thought

Can someone make a note in their diary to bump this thread on Boxing Day?

Because it worked very well with several 'in charge' over the last few years....

Seeing the news update about the U21 set-up recently got me thinking.....is there anything in the rules stopping Saints putting out the U21 side in any of the cup competitions? (JPT, League or FA)

I give up. Why is Ashley Grute likely to have this injury?
