Ralph was asked about this incident at today's press conference and said that he wasn't aware the rule worked like this and he agreed it opened up the possibility of trying to exploit it... As per the last question on the video below:

The live broadcast bit didn't last very long and missed the initial question(s) due to the stream starting after the session started. Most of what I heard was about Ings's contract situation (so nothing we didn't already know), although I think Ralph confirmed that Ings will play on Saturday.

Whilst I tend to agree, the worry would be that a grumpy/disenchanted player ("wah, wah, they wouldn't let me go") would go off the boil in their final season. I guess the counter-argument there though is that he would be shooting himself in the foot if he took his foot off the pedal and made himself less attractive to the big teams in the process.

Agree with this. Maybe teams should exploit this 'loophole' by sticking a player up front in an offside position for the entirety of the game in order to put off the defenders, wait for the inevitable mistake, and then poach a goal

* MLG Mode * But, surely a Champions League club wouldn't be interested in Ings if they didn't think he could maintain such form over the next few seasons?
-
* MLG Mode * Name a player in the 20+ PL goals per season bracket who would be valued at less than £40m...

I know I keep banging on about this but why are Ings's camp so worried about a release figure in the region of £40m? If Ings is good enough to play Champions League football (which he is), then in today's crazy prices* for players at the highest level, £40m is still a bargain for a prolific PL goalscorer. Maybe Ings's camp should show a bit more faith in the quality of their man rather than valuing him at a derisory £20m (if that is indeed the figure they are aiming for). *Caveat: yes, I'm aware that the covid situation could be having a temporary deflationary effect on prices at the moment

I'd been getting a whiff of Glaswegian, but you could be onto something with Kenya...

When did all this giving players numbers bollox start? Much better before they started such nonsense. -----------------------------------------

If the release fee is commensurate with the market value of a prolific Champions League level striker, then agreeing upon a reasonable fee wouldn't 'price him out of a move', surely? Indeed, quite the opposite?

I think both arguements for who should play left back have equal merits... - Play Vokins to give him more chance to gel with team ahead of the PL game - Field our strongest possible team for the cup game (i.e. play Bertrand) I lean slightly towards giving Vokins more game time thus making him more prepared for the PL game
